How to make fog darker?
-
look at the pic, the clouds below me is completely white, i hard to see my HUD (bad contrast).
in fact, it is not clouds, it is fog, if i set low fog, i can see dark clouds and my HUD (good contrast).
but i like fog in bad weather. how to make it darker, so i can see HUD? -
… Grear5 … fog viewed from above is nothing else than low level clouds lighted by the sun. So it is normal that is appears pure white.
-
Dont have anything to add to help with your problem, but if you see fog up at 19,000ft, it is in fact clouds.

i care my HUD & eyes more than reality, can i have my custom fog?

no, i m sure it is not clouds.
like i said, remove the fog in bad weather, u will see sth else. do the test urself. -

The real HUD is green for a reason…. in your pic it appears yellow or white, cant really tell.
-
Actually we have discussed fog before. I do not see a problem in the pic but low level dense Tully fog is not modelled in fbms. Hope to see low level fog in fbms in the future.

green is worse than yellow. i found yellow is best so far, but still hard to see through white backgnd.

Make Flatten and save. In the real world there are no pure white or black color. This trick with a gray layer know everyone who worked with photos in Photoshop. Also, gray layer is useful to add to any texture. This makes them softer and simulates the reaction of the eyes to bright light.
P.S. The same can be done with the clouds mod.
These images show clouds - texture of “Nuno Santos” white clouds with added gray layer of 5% transparency. And this experiment was successful. -

try poor or inclement weather, u see no clouds at all, only fog, just like my pic -
Hi Gear5.
I understand what you mean. From my point of view, the “white fog” band could also be reduced IMHO, because the default values in inclement weather completely obstruct the original cloud textures, therefore no clouds in sight, only “fog”.
Try these settings together with my mod, I believe we can achieve a better balance.

Do we have FOG texture file? I meant to make changes to the FOG texture file.

No, we don’t. For now, at least

If the FOG generated by the program, you possibly can change the color in the weather data or config file.

Not sure of that, maybe in the code? Instead of changing the color, it would be nice to change the density, at least above the cloud layer IMHO.

Totally agree !!! I hope the BMS 4.33 developers read our posts )))

i have said:" if i set low fog, i can see dark clouds"
that means i have knew how to remove fog.
but i like fog in bad weather, i like ILS landing in heavy fog.
i just don’t like the “total white” above FL200… Grear5 … fog viewed from above is nothing else than low level clouds lighted by the sun. So it is normal that is appears pure white.
i don’t think this pic is “pure white”. it is a little red & yellow.

Depends more on the camera settings, window opacity and sun orientation than on cloud colour, I guess. These are 2 pictures I took on a single flight:
IRL, if you don’t take shadows of other clouds into account, cloud colour is dependent on how much light is able to get through it. More water = more cloud mass = less light getting through = darker colour, so an early cumulus cloud or a thin cirrus layer can appear to be bright white, while a towering cumulus or cumulonimbus will be (very) dark grey on the bottom and lighter towards the top.
I think one of the problems with an overcast layer in BMS is that it’s completely even. A bit of variation, creating a shadow here and there, would already help a lot in terms of contrast, I think, which could also have a (slight) impact on readability of HUD, picking up movement, …
