Delilah HUD symbology

What’s the purpose of the small slewable circle in the HUD pre-launch of Delilah with WPN page as SOI?
If range information is determined by steerpoint selection, and you point the nose at the steerpoint, is there any purpose in slewing the circle? (Or is it purely for occasions when you don’t want to point the nose at the steerpoint?)
Could someone also confirm whether the cruise height setting for Delilah is AGL or ASL?
Thanks.

Hi,
1. The small circle for the Delilah is something that just stayed there from older MITL weapons. e.g for a GBU-15 it can be helpful to aim the circle on target BEFORE launch because it can help a lot when the weapon is airborne (No STPT mark for GBU-15). For the Delilah, you can just use it for finer alignment pre-launch, but for sure it’s not a must.
2. The altitude is ASL. I thought initially to use AGL (And it can easily be done) but then there might be a problem that the Delilah will keep adjusting altitude with terrain below it, taking the nose up and down continuously, making it harder for the operator to fine tune it at the surfing stage (It’s almost impossible to manage the Delilah while its adjusting altitude, you can try it and see :)).
If you mean OTOH for something like TFR that will anticipate terrain in-front, then that is much more complicated to achieve But not impossible (We already have TFR algorithm from AC system…), just IMHO not needed.

are you nuts ?

Been told on some occasions yea
But yea, now that you asked it that way, I guess we can handle missiles similar to how AIs are avoiding terrain, so even simpler than I thought

well i was thinking of allowing AI to go lower by hacking TFR code anyway but that is a looooong road, probably more than 3 to 4 weeks

OK, maybe we can have real cruise missiles implemented then
