Simple TE for A-A practice
-
I am very rusty on BFM so I wanted to create some simple A-A TE with various different opponent aircraft types in 3 main scenarios:
1. Advantage me (TE starts with me on opponent’s six)
2. Disadvantage me (TE starts with opponent on my six)
3. Neutral (TE starts with me/opponent head to head)Please can someone advise how to create this in Mission Editor?
Or maybe someone has created such TE already and willing to share?
It would also be useful to change the different numbers of aircraft in red/blue sides to get scenario 1v2, 2v1, 2v2 etc.
Apologies if this has been covered before, I did try searching the forum but so far did not find what I am looking for

If you wanted to troll about the Dogfight mode, which is a feature of BMS and appears right on start screen, you would do it exactly that way. Or I didn’t get a word of your post.

Thanks.
Funny but in all the years i have had Falcon 4/BMS the Dogfight feature was never something that I paid any attention to.
The reason that I asked is thar I did have some dogfight practice TE that someone createdfor Falcon AF but I could not convert them to BMS using Mission Commander.
No offence was.intended and I will fire up BMS/Dogfight again to check it out -
Jetlag,
Don’t worry. I for one do not use the dogfight module either.
I’m currently working on that aspect of the training missions and it’s not easy to create these missions. You need to create multiple ones with being correctly positionned or accept the compromises of waiting to be able to maneuvre into the right position after entering 3DWhat I usually do in the TE editor is get two aircraft close enough to each other and then get into 3D and move into the exact same position I want the TE to start. hit pause, exit TE and directly SAVE it.
That way, the next time you open the TE your position i betterDo that multiple times for all the position you want to practise and you’ll have what you want
Good luck -
Thank you Red Dog
Yes, what I was wanting to do was recreate BFM training as IRL is done with Offensive BFM Perch and Defensive BFM Perch.
It is described quite well in this publication https://www.cnatra.navy.mil/local/docs/pat-pubs/P-1289.pdf
As you point out, looks difficult to re-create in BMS and the Dogfight Feature does not allow such set-up but is more ‘inflexible’ apart from spacing and height. Probably cannot change any of the Dogfight Module in the BMS coding (and there are other priorities on the dev’s time for BMS upgrades anyway!) but having ‘Advantage’, ‘Disadvantage’ and maybe also ‘Neutral’ initial positioning options (as I described in my original posting) could be useful for such training scenarios -
You might consider just using a campaign mission or a TE mission with a2a. Adjust the time to just before engagement and save. Then edit the number of A/C on each side using Mission Commander.

Thanks Amway
Actually though it is the initial perch setup that is critical to the intentions of the mission as this is closely similar to how BFM is practiced for pilots training IRL as I understandInitial advantage/disadvantage positions at relatively close ranges, sometimes even varying initial angels to simulate height advantage/disadvantage

Here is the link where I have posted converted 4.32 TEs for 4.33.x.
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29819There are 3 TEs out of all which are just what you want.
Offensive BFM - You are at six of enemy.
Defensive BFM - Enemy behind you

At least for me this sounds useful for the aircraft I mostly fly in game, the F-15E. Since the F-15E is considered an attack aircraft by the game it isn’t selectable in dogfight (though the A-10 is for some reason).
