Promoting BMS?
-
Sorry I really did a search, probably use the wrong words but could not find anything
Went to Miramar.Ca air show this weekend, second time, it was great. When I go to these event I always buy stuff, wish I could have bought hats ,T-shirt related to flight sim, and talk to fans of BMS or DCS, FSX, perfect environment for that, and lots of aviation enthusiastic. I also went to the museum in Palms Spring the day prior, they had a F16 Simulator running Falcon 4, don’t think it was BMS. Could not try it, it was at the end of the day, next time I go there
Why is there no promoting for that niche ? Specially to event like this(air shows). I would promote if I had a t-shirt :?
Marc…

Funny, I went to an airshow with a tee-shirt :). Didn’t wake BMS users up though.

Well it’s not a commercial thing. So since there is no money gain , or expenses paid, why do it and take your precious pit and endanger it? Even if no pit, just your 400+€ HOTAS that it’s very hard to find now days.
Ppl that are on to flight sims and look around they found out about BMS. Every day there are new members coming in from day one, I believe the welcome section is the biggest in this forum.
BMS is promoted by it’s Fan’s it’s almost on every social media out there, and also mouth to mouth. U r out for a coffee and suddenly you pop up guys I have to take off, I have a flight to catch… or bomb a bridge. And others are like: huh?Sent from my MI 5 using Tapatalk

They have BMS 4.33.5 on a custom F-16 pit
IIRC 20$ per session, i didn’t test lol -

Each year between March - September, we attend a few public events with the BVT, where one of our intents is to show the visitors that BMS exists. We also inform people on-site, and provide the link to download BMS on our business cards. (so, please, don’t change the link any time soon, or we have about 500 cards to correct or throw away  )
To our own amazement, during the years, we’ve learned that quite a large number of real pilots have absolutely no idea publicly available home flight simulators, even civil ones, exist. A lot of real Belgian F-16 pilots do use BMS for cockpit and procedure familiarisation, though.

Where do people find BMS? I first heard the name of Falcon 4.0 by LOMAC video comment. I quite don’t remember how I found and started BMS after that. When I bought high-end gaming PC first time in my life in 2013, I bought it for DCS:A-10C. But then I soon found BMS4.32 and installed it.
Maybe we can place a questionnaire on the registration page “Where did you know BMS?”?
I believe Youtube videos are most effective “promotion” nowadays.

I always go to the airshow with my squadron patch
It’s a self-made so no commercial purpose, make your own t-shirt as well !https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=36029&d=1538511812&thumb=1&stc=1

ouch. This is not allowed.
the use of the software must remain free.
they charge for the hardware’ wear -
Only the devs can say what their intent is for it, but in many countries, this is still using the software for commercial purposes and a breach of the license conditions (unless they have been issued a separate license that permits commercial use).
Here in Aus, Ive seen a private pilot (not allowed to charge people for flying except as cost sharing - you need a commercial license for that), charge people $90 for a bag of lollies… and throw in a “free” flight with it.

they charge for the hardware’ wearThat museum I was at, is privately owned and another commercial place in Anaheim ca were also using that software in their business(arcade mode), you would thing they are using it legally

highly unlikely IMO… I would guess that the operators simply judge that the risk of getting sued for copyright infringement is low. If they are using a version before 4.33U1, there wont even be a incredibly prominent copyright notice recent enough to give pause.
Their use is not consistent with the original license agreement for Falcon, and its explicitly prohibited by the general license issued for BMS. The only way to use it legally would be to acquire a separate, commercial license which permits such use.
It will only become a problem for them if Billionsoft bothers to do anything about it. The current IP owner probably doesnt even know about the infringement, so its a low chance sort of thing to do. Given the effects on your business model if that does happen though, Id say its still a significant risk.
Easy fix is to just offer the use free and avoid the hassle

Lot of conversation about something that no one has any idea if or what exactly they are using!!
I wasn’t aware we had so many Keyboard Copyright Lawyers in the house!!
I’ve seen people in the past swear that Falcon 4.0 or other derivatives were being used, and of course at the end of the day they were wrong!!!

Yup fun to see a community shift from years of flying leaked code to becoming obsessed with legal issues
