IFF/IDM flight not showing on HSD/FCR
-
I am able to communicate with him. I believe at the time of question I was definitely on the same VHF…
So I need to be on both UHF/VHF for him to appear on my radar as a blue ?.
He did end up showing up as a friendly flight but disappears off my radar occasionally not sure if radar elevation has something to do with it ?.
I just need to be able to keep an eye on him for SA

Yes, in a typical single player campaign, you will need to switch to UHF 6 Tactical. Make sure you click the COMM Plan and IFF Plan buttons in the DTC before saving and loading the mission. And, of course, if you’re doing a ramp start make sure you load the plan via the DTE MFD page.

By default the air to air position DL is done over UHF. air to ground DL is over VHF. So the positional reporting is UHF. If you want to receive his DL AG target then you’d have to be VHF connected. AI always operate this way but humans can reverse it (VHF AA, UHF AG) if desired. And it’s not just “UHF 6” but the exact frequency of your package from the briefing. This is correct if you get communication plan premade but don’t count it on being the same MHz every time.
Nothing about DL position reporting is about the radar. If you can communicate via radio then he sends you his position and it displays on your screen even if radar is off.

Yes, a more precise answer, thanks. I was just keeping it simple for now to see if it was indeed an incorrect frequency/preset in use.

Thanks guys this makes sense in that I changed UHF to TACTICAL #6 AWACS. That must be why my wing appeared in flight on my HSD and disappeared on the way home tuning back to tower.
He only appeared on my HSD though and not on the FCR any reason why that might be ?.

Probably because he’s behind you and so out not in the scope of your forward facing FCR.

Because a short push on IFF out disable/enable DL contacts on FCR.

Yeah, they are great. Unfortunately however the printed words don’t bold print the perfect answer for someone every time . Clearly I have read some manuals watched some videos.
