Korea '80s Theater
-
LAST UPDATED 03.05.2020
The 4.32 version of the MOD is outdated since 2015 and it was incompatible with BMS 4.33 or BMS 4.34
The 4.34 includes many many upgrades and changes which made much easier and quicker to create again an '80s era theater for players ans simmers how are seeking such environment.4.34. version beta 2 is released.
Link for the theater is below.http://www.mediafire.com/folder/q4g8z1crnr9sc/Korea_80s_4.34_beta_2
Unzip and overwrite the whole directory in you Falcon BMS install in Falcon BMS 4.34\Data\Installation.
1. Unpack the zip file into the *\Falcon BMS 4.34\Data* directory.2. Find the theater.lst file in *Falcon BMS 4.34\Data\TerrData\TheaterDefinition* and add the following line using Notepad or any text editor.
Add-On Korea80s\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\Korea80.tdfNow the theater is available for selection in the game.
(The final version will have a one click installer.)It has to be underlined this is only a WIP product to get feedback from the community.
If anybody wish to join with work or with data supply and suggestion is appreciated.Features of the release.
- Only the Rolling Fire campaign is modified this should be tested.
- The campaign uses a fictional 1989 OOB.
- I added some T-72 battalions as “elite first line” unit for the DPRK. In reality DPRK never had them as well as the SA-13 but I felt the camp needs them. I can live with such fictional setup. I never wanted 100% historical accuracy.
- I turned some towed arty unit into T-62 or T-72 battalion to give more offensive power to DRPK. According to feedback maybe more power should be given the DRPK. I do wish to see not a “clown” opponent. This is true for both air power and ground power.
- SAMs are re-balanced on both sides. I deleted many RoK and US SAMs because they are simply too numerous especially the Patriot battalions. Only two of them now are in the game, they defending the most important US airfields.
- DPRK got a new SAM line along the east side of the DMZ. I consider to delete some DPRK SAMs to keep the qty. balance of the SAMs at last on some level. But in RL the whole DMZ is protected. Targets farther from the DMZ it may will loose in later release their SAMs.
- I added a single SA-5 battalion either on east side. In fact SA-5s should be in pairs on a different site which I do not have. Maybe one day, who knows.
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?38469-Authentic-SA-5-site - I did not fix any possible loadout error of any planes. I simply deleted the PGM where it was needed and I added the older AIM-9s. For ex. the loadout of F-4s maybe needs adjustments.
- Some red jets got RBK bomb to have more power in CAS. If a plane can carry FAB it can carry RBK either.
- Role scores are WIP, I did not tested them beyond some campaign launch. The goal was force the red side to fly SEAD missiles even with older planes. Power can be also in numbers not only in quality.
- The DPRK AF is stronger than was in RL. There are more MiG-29s as would in RL and because lack of MiG-21MF the bis ha to used. Comparing to stock campaign of BMS4 DPRK has much less advanced planes. If feedback suggest are too many I can cut more. 1xMiG-29 –-> 1xMiG-23, 1xMiG-23 —> MiG-21bis or more old strike planes such as J-5/MiG-17.
- US carrier or EF-111A is available from 0 hour to see their functionality. Check the later released save1.cam.
- I did not touch the PRC and Russian/Soviet units.
- Because of balance reasons I did not added B-52s.
- KMGU is available for MiG-29A for testing and the JP-233 for UK Tornado GR.1.
- F-5A are available with and without wingtip fuel tank.
- F-5s are limited to wingtip AIM-9s. I did not find any loadout data which would suggest AIM-9 capability on other hardpoints.
- Helos are not changed on any sides except I deleted the RoK AH-64.
UPDATE 03.05.2020
List of main changes in beta 2:
- UI is changed it is marked the only tweaked campaign.
- On blue side the CVN and its squadrons are now reinforcements.
- OOB of red squadrons are strongly changed.
- J-7 and Q-5 are introduced for DPRK in limited qty. J-7 has all aspect IR missiles.
- H-5, Su-25, MiG-29 and MiG-23 are uses airbase farther from the FLOT.
- Squadrons of the DPRK are much more dispersed.
- Some DPRK planes without ARM perform DEAD missions against SAMs. These are performed by new sq. types therefore these changes are no applied to unchanged campaigns. NOTE
- AG loadouts on red plans are strongly restricted.
- Unguided rockets are mostly removed with some exception (for testing) as well as FAB-100 and similar bombs to make easier the work of the ATO.
- Mostly larger bombs are only allowed, if both 250kg and 500kg are available mostly 500 kg is set.
- On older planes only UKB versions are used to model their lack of advanced bombing eq. They have to fly low for accurate bombing.
- Only one type the PTAB type RBK is used because of modeling limitations.
- Su-24 and Su-17 loadouts are seriously changed according to their RL loadout.
- F-20 now has AIM-7 and AGM-65 instead AGM-12.
- USSR and PRC sq. now are set to '80s OOB.
*J-8B, Q-5 and J-7 are used in tactical fighters and Tu-16 as bombers.
*MiG-31, Su-27, Su-24 and A-50 is set for USSR.- PRC jets are reinforcement. Sadly it cannot be avoid the issues that these sq. will be spawned at such airbases which are already disabled. (They are using quite far airbases from the DMZ.)
- Squadron size changes for USSR and PRC jets. As a general rule I used 16 AC/sq. on normal diff, and 1+ level adds +2 jets for red side. Blus sq. size is the on every diff. level.
- There are less SP arty battalion for DPRK and more Mot. rile and tank. and mech. I added a bit more unit with SA-13 to give a bit more stronger “elite” force to DPRK. In RL DPRK did not have them neither the T-72 or BMP-2.
(And the DB have its own limitation. Comparing to WPACT the air defense is still much much weaker on the red side.)
NOTE
I tested three different planes in TE. If they consider target SAMs they can destroy them using only rockets and bombs. Of course with losses… -
This video is private: Molni, can you please fix it?
-
It says that the video is private?

Edit: Nvm… there is none… i just copy pasted my data/sim folder and kept a Sim-Original as reserve.

I am trying to install this mod. The installer creates the “unpack” file and places the “package.src” in it but I then get an error “7zip cannot find the code that works with archives” What am I doing wrong?

I have no idea. Maybe it requires 7zip just Khronik did not mentioned. I tested on fresh BMS4 install, I removed everything to get a clean BMS4.

reading your PDF of install notes now Molny, I note that you said it would be best not to use Datalink as Link 16 was not widely available during this setting - However BMS does not model MIDS Link 16 functionality, it only has the IDM functionality instead.
Can anyone shed some light on when the IDM was made available?

Had same prob, after downloading a new 7-zip it worked perfectly.

What is IDM? The biggest advantage what is provided by data link the position of your wingman and element without using radio. Even the radio is a but over modeled because if you ask they alway give you 100% correct position and never say “I have no idea”. Of coure in Falcon are no landmarks and radio is slower than in RL. As many times have been said by Dee-Jay a big percentage of realism is depends on the player.

This is literally in the BMS4 manual… IDM = Improved Data Modem.

_Sure Strike
In 1995, 38 F-16C/D Block 40 aircraft of USAFE’s 31st Fighter Wing based at Aviano AB, Italy, were equipped with Sure Strike. This package consists of Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and an Improved Data Modem (IDM), giving the aircraft quick reaction capability for CAS missions over Bosnia.
The IDM (now standard on the Block 50/52 and MLU aircraft) allows the aircraft to receive latitude, longitude and elevation of a target direct from a FAC (Forward Air Controller) on the ground. The system then inputs the data into the weapon system computer and displays it as a waypoint on the HUD._

Are single player campaigns winnable? Thanks
-
Molni, thanks for your efforts! I really enjoyed your WIP release and i’m looking forward to trying this.
Oddly enough, i have a question about the particlesys modification. I’ve been using what i thought was Fenrir’s latest release for a while now… 1.03. However, the file you linked in your first post is different. Did you cut-and-paste / tweak the effects you liked, or am i using an out-dated version?
Thanks again!

Had same prob, after downloading a new 7-zip it worked perfectly.
I tried that with no luck but I got it to install using win xp compatibility mode. Thanks

Ive got the same problem… xp compatibility mode no joy, brand new 7zip-likewise.
EDIT: opened the exe using 7zip and that works… can I copy the files out of there into my falcon install folder?
