Missile defense in 4.34
-
The old Realism Patch 5 Manual has a good read on ECM. Page 134.
As Mav-jp jaid RP5 is not valid anymore on many many areas. For ex. IR code is brand new in 4.34. I can guess is new EW environment because of ECM, HOJ.I’m curious about SOJ modeling. It would be great to see effect of SOJ planes at least of RWR. Also red side should get such plane because of balance. On blue side are the EB-6B and EF-111. Red side deserve the Su-24MR or a larger SOJ plane based on airframe which in DB. I can check the best candidate for it.

And I will forward with attention the results.
But however learning how to use well and take advantage of jammers (those few specialized planes, I mean here) in TEs and campaigns could reveal at least useful, I believe.
Thanks in advance, Molni!
With best regards.

Experienced it. Sa 6 launch, turn away, chaffs, RWR turns silent. Look at missile. Still guiding. Bye. Music was on. Happened to other people as well. Line in .dat file.
I concur. Same experience.

So now the other noooob question is:
if activating the jammer in some cases is worse (sa6-10-11 etc), when is it ok to activate it?I read that it would be right to activate it when you are in BVR, but then later when you are in the evasive maneuver phase, deactivate it.
Quite right? You keep your Jammer active up until burn-through range. After that you must switch it off. “THE VAULT” pdf is a good starting place to see various burn-through ranges against different systems but for more accurate values you need to look in the DB and apply the proper formula.

The question that I was responding to was in regard to HOJ and the general use of ECM. I agree that the document is old and some of the information is not correct but the ECM section still seems good.
In regard to the ECM section of RP5 that I was referring to:
It begins by saying that ECM management is important. Is ECM management not important? The whole thing about power seems over the top but this ECM stuff is classified and it is a simplification for use in BMS.
Then it talks about ECM coverage. Is the diagram no longer valid for ECM coverage? If it isn’t valid then I would be grateful to know what the actual in sim coverage is so that I can fix my diagram.
Then it talks about the jammer reducing the range that the bandit can effectively lock up an a/c using ECM. The specific tables and charts that are referred to are old but is the general idea not correct?
SU-27 range in data is 44.5 Most of the F-16’s radar have a range of 35.2. My tests show similar results. So generally speaking the, SU-27 has a stronger radar as stated. Some of the newer F-16’s have stronger radar that gets up to 50.5 but maybe that was not the case back then. More importantly, it points out that if a bandit has a better radar than you, then maybe you should rethink how you use ECM.
Is beaming not effective in BMS? There are all of those great new BVR tactics that were added to the AI where they beam us so I would think this one is ok.
This thread just talked about some missiles having HOJ. It may not have actually worked back then but it works now. So if shot at by a missile with HOJ capability should one not turn off their ECM?
Does ECM not make one stand out like a sore thumb on the bandit’s radar?
If these things are lies and misinformation then I apologize for making the reference and would be grateful if the correct information could be provided.

Thanks for sharing that video, dear Lorik, but to be honest I was suspecting there could be also more hidden ‘out there’.
It’s only me and how I’m made: with BMS you may never know, I learned.I found this one interesting too, BTW. You are involved in it, as seemed:

Yes, I used the experience of this mission to polish the data I share in my own video.
