Can't Hear the ATIS and DTC Comms Plan
-
Hi,
I am on BMS 4.34. In the Korean theatre training missions, I can see the ATIS in blue writing buy I can’t hear it. In the cockpit, have both Comm 1 & 2 knobs turned all the way up as is the Intercom.
Both comms volumes are up in the Setup-> Sounds area as well and I have tested them.
I can transmit and receive to ATC no problem.
What am I missing?
Also, the frequencies in the DTC Comms page before entering the cockpit do not align with the Mission Briefing frequencies and I notice the ATIS frequency in the DTC does not align with the briefing.
Thanks

Tts is not running correctly on your computer

Sorry, I don’t understand, what is Tts ? Could you expand a bit in your answer please ?
-
Text-to-speech. Windows feature used by BMS.

About your 2nd question: did you load the dtc during your rampstart?
-
Thanks. I fixed it by enabling TTS on my PC

OK guys here is where I invite ridicule.
I installed 4.34 some time ago but only just got around to firing it up (yes I have had to be that patient! )All looked fine until I tried to talk to ATC or Tanker or anyone else on the radio. Guess what I cannot hear replies. Or they cannot hear me
Let’s take Kunsan Ground Ops Training TE as an example. I select Runway start point and load DTC and select COM1 and transmit ‘Request Departure’ or ‘Request Taxi’ from Ground Control and ATC and try all 3 frequencies on:
273.52
292.30
292.65
but no response from any of the tower options on any frequency
I can hear my pilot transmitting but no reply is received
COM volume is turned up full
I am clearly missing something but do not know what I am doing wrong
And yes, I did read the 4.34 Comms guide several timesThis happens on a Win7 and Win10 machine so it is not an installation dependent issue
As I said, I am inviting ridicule but have run out of ideas

Runway start is tricky since you’re jumping in in the middle of the process chain from chocks to sky. 4.34 changed the comms significantly but I believe there is a “right way” to insert yourself into the comms plan with a runway commit. It’s possible that tower talks to you immediately so it’s always best to default DTC to tower frequency so you start listening to tower.

Yep, at least the training mission is meant to start at the ramp.
Other thing to consider, yesterday, during a flight, My VA software accidentally triggered a clear to taxi back to the ramp, after I requested on ground a clearance to taxi, which I received fine
I didn’t really pay attention and taxied my flight to the EOR and positionned myself close enough to the runway to trigger the switch to the tower frequency.
That call never came.
Then I realised that’s because the ATC expects me to be back at the ramp shutting down, and not at the EOR. So I had to reinitiate a request taxi, and immediately after that ground cleared me to switch to tower freq.
It wasn’t the fault of the ATC system, but rather operator error in the sequence of the calls.I guess unfortunately, starting taxi or runway is the same kind of syncro issue between your position, your expectation and the different frequencies.

runway start is working fine
the working procedure is to ask TOWER for take off clearance without goign through the ground
however, not sure this is working correctly for a TRAINING Mission that is set up for starting in ramp indeed
