[F4RADAR] Lightweight standalone radar application

@tumbler31 Would changing STPT 25 automatically make AWACS call out contacts based on the new bullseye coordinates ? (my guess is no, but just checking)
The AI AWACS uses whatever the player set as BE (list-0-8) as reference.

@tumbler31
I tried but the Bullseye position in F4Radar does not change at all.
I frag an AWACS flight in the same package and have also made sure the the package have same overlapping steerpoints.
AWACS seat is taken by human GCI and stay on the ground while the package takes off.
Package changes bulleyes through List - 0 - 8 to the agreed steerpoint.
However human GCI’s Bullseye position on F4Radar remains unchanged although in 3D it’s changed to another steerpoint already.
Did i do anything wrong here? -

@tumbler31
I did as per your instruction again.
I cycle BE via the STPT up/down in 3D.
All package fighter & human AWACS in 3D did the same.
But human GCI alt-tab to check out F4radar, the bulleyes position remains the same default, nothing has changed although in 3D bulleyes position is confirmed updated. -
@tumbler31 I was curious and tested this after I read your comment. The AI AWACS will only use the BE set on the 2D map and will not change references if you do in 3D. Might there be something similar with F4RADAR that produces the behaviour in the above discussion?

Hi @Tumbler31
First of all, I would like to thank you for the tool you have given us and which I think is great.
It’s always a bit difficult to have done nothing and wish for improvements for a job that is not your own.
As Pegasus82 points out, it is indeed a bit difficult in a campaign with a sky full of planes to follow a flight or package that is the subject of particular interest.
Pegasus82 made a proposal, but the answer to this need could also be facilitated by the ability we would have to change the color of the vectors of a certain number of flights, friends and enemies alike. Maybe it would be simpler than his wish?
So there would be even more fun to use the tool you have made available to the community

Does BMS or F4RADAR have any plan of making transponder / squawk function work since BMS has already have this avionics & would be a pity if this can’t be used together with ATC/GCI app like F4RADAR
Another thinking is that the altitude shown on F4Radar isn’t really correct & in line with the altitude in BMS. Guess it is because F4Radar gets info update from BMS 2D instead of transponder. When QNH is adjusted, F4Radar can no longer get accurate altitude info hence making human ATC less efficient during the approach decent phase.
-
@philip40912 good point with squawks.
I believe that maybe a realistic issue with regards to QNH. My real life transponders that I can see their altitude reporting always output in pressure altitude (QNE). I think RL ATC have to factor that difference between QNH and QNE in, which is usually only a few hundred feet different in most locations, but I’ve never thought to ask any of them. Maybe there is an automatic conversion on the radar set though…
-
Also bear in mind the initial idea behind of the tool was not to be used as ATC but more as GCI and to be honest if I request a picture I don’t care about a thousand feet difference in the resulting call
-
@oakdesign Yeah fully understand it’s built for GCI. Just proposing an idea as this app has great potential to be used for multipurposes. BMS is such a great platform with great avionics from pilot’s point of view. If GCI/ATC’s tool can be improved, for instance extracting data to F4RADAR like the way MFDE app does in order to show correct altitude, DED squawk / transponder / IFF setting etc…it’s just going to be super great If how MFDE export / extract BMS flight data could be somehow applied to feeding info to F4Radar, it would be awesome!
-
@philip40912 comparing MFDE with F4Radar is technically a different story as MFDE relys on Flightdata that is explicit exported for your own flight on the documented shared memory data. F4Radar digs it’s data from completely undocumented area and such concrete data for flights in an agged state might not even be available

F4RADAR BE cycling doesn’t afact the game and also not the AI AWACS. It only changes the BE used for F4RADAR

Adding squawk is still on my wish list, as is the grouping of flights are adding user defined labels. And yes, as the help indicates, the program uses MSL, AGL is quite a challenge for such a simple program.

@Tumbler31 , I don’t understand BMS Status is always Off
what is it wrong ? -

what is it wrong ?Real quick thought, without reading anything, just by remembering when I was using it the last time:
Did you start F4RADAR with admin rights?EDIT: If I’m not mistaken it needs to read the RAM data etc., so maybe thats the issue here…
-
@zero900 many thanks!!!

I don’t see the Kunsan taxiways…normal ?
-
@suhkoi69 taxiways have been disabled a while ago

Hi is there a way to get this to load via the Alternative Launcher? It keeps asking me for the install directory even though I’ve tried pointing it there.
