A2G Mode - Can't move TGP Crosshairs with AG88 (Bug?)
-
Hi,
In Instant Action (Moving Mud), I noticed if I click A2G mode, and the first weapon is the AG88, I can’t move my TGP crosshairs unless I first do a Point or Area Track to Ground Stabilize. This does not happen with other A2G weapons such as the CBU, LGB, AGM, meaning I can move my TGP crosshairs without having to do a Point/Area Track first. Also, if I cycle through the other A2G weapons and come back to the AG88, the TGP crosshair is then able to move (without first doing a Point/Area Track). Is this a bug or intended?
Thanks
UPDATE: This is related to the AG radar and TGP being in Snowplow mode. Strangely, a DMS down to make either SOI does happen but without the white border around either MFD so you can’t tell which one is SOI. Then when you perform a TMS Up, the white border shows up on the MFD that was the SOI. If AG Radar is SOI, you can then slew the cursors. If TGP is SOI, you’d have to TMS Up or Right one more time before you can slew the cursors. Seems like a bug?

May not be the full explanation, but many sensors are using the active steerpoint as a reference point on the ground. In SP mode you want to explicitly disregard any steerpoint, you want to look at what is directly in front of you. Then in order to slew ground FCR cursors you need to TMS-Up once which in a sense invents a steerpoint/point of reference on the ground in front of you.

Thanks, I understand that part. Just wondering if the white border (SOI) and AG88 issues are bugs.

Seems reasonable to me that there is no white border on any of them, indicating that you can’t slew the cursors on neither. Then your action of TMS-Up changes that, the border appears to notify which sensor allows you to slew cursors. So logic seems to be: Ability to slew cursors => SOI

Did more testing. It’s a little confusing with the AG88. I guess what I’m trying to say is this…
In AG Mode with TGP as SOI (has white border) and not in Snowplow: Without a TMS Up to get IR Point/Area in the TGP, I am able to slew the TGP cursors for CBU, GBU, AGM. But for AG88, I need an IR Point/Area in the TGP before I can slew the TGP cursors. Not sure why the inconsistency. Maybe it’s something HUD/weapon related.

It’s a well-known situation (by some). As far as I don’t know, bug or real is still a mystery.

I missed the part where you mentioned the HARM. I will try it out to understand your question more fully

(I know the feeling, brother! We read a post hoping to help out a friend we haven’t yet met, and for some reason, a key word or point gets missed…. then comes the egg on the face… been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. Live and learn, right? Cheers!)

I own the T-shirt factory.

Thing is that pre-designate snow plow you can still change the SOI between say TGP and FCR only the border is hidden. If you keep track and count your DMS down presses you find that when you press TMS forward to SP designate it’s different which sensor has SOI. Having SOI completely absent and always resolves to the same state on TMS designate makes sense but that’s not how BMS is working. On the other hand having hidden SOI that can be manipulated behind the mask of SP pre-des seems weird too.
