BMS Other Fighters Mafia (BMSOFM) Journal

Laudable stuff, but you are going to have to be pragmatic about cfd results probably. simulating the stall point and high AoA lift requires a very very dense mesh (y+=1) for the entire lifting surface and I presume you won’t have access to that kind of computing power.

-

@Easy

Have you used STAR CCM+, or better yet, Ansys Fluent? Computational power used to be problem in the past, but with coders accessing CUDA SDK’s for GPU core assisted computation, even end-users can get alot of work done, in short periods of time now without needing a server farm for assistance . . .

@Radium

We do have assets that have flown the Hornet for vehicle verification. Thank you for your input!

@TOPOLO

Our intentions, EXACTLY! :)

Good Day, All. We of the BMSOFM believe in being open with you, the Membership, and not only with good news. The Mafia is alive and well, but a key member has some real life matters to deal with and he won’t be able to give a lot of time to BMS. And so , I have to report that there will be a delay in completing the F-18 Flight Model. The Online Advance Training will be effected as well.
However, the news is not all bad…
1)We have an Install Pack, as we call it, with the Hornet stuff we have developed. It includes the refined ground dynamics of the flight model. I’ll be putting that into the Mafia Files next week(I’m away from home and working from an IPhone for a few days). Plus, our plan is to test it’s compatibility with 4.36, when it comes out, and/or make a 36 IP.
2) We are moving forward with the Basic Training . Please follow the following procedure…
a) Go to the BMSOFM Discord and complete the “Compliant–to-RR” section
b) We’ll make you a member, then in the Member’s “unit-applications” section post what you would training/help you would like. We’ll follow up with you shortly thereafter.

Saddened to hear about the reasons for a delay.

RL is always more important and I hope things work out.

Hello,

BMSOFM, now this group… I don’t get it.

Is it a renaming ?

Radium

-

@Radium There’s only BMSOFM as far as I know.

Hi

sorry I missed the link :

https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/175/bms-hornet-mafia/4

Radium

@Radium it’s the same group. Someone necroed the thread.

Hello, All.
Asleepwater, I answered your question in the other thread. Look to my signature here for links to the Mafia Files.
Radium, Lorik is right, we’re the BMS Other Fighters Mafia. The “Hornet Mafia” moniker was from that old thread. We came to realize that we didn’t want people to think we were just interested in the Hornet, hence our newer official name.

@drtbkj Thank you very much for your development and effort. I like the F18 very much; May I ask which model of F18 you developed? What kind of features are added to its current version? Does it have avionics?

-

@asleepwater The model we’ve been working on ( so far) is the legacy Hornet, the F-18C, EF-18M, and CAAF18. 4.35 came out with some cockpit hotspot issues. So ,our first project was to help with that. . We also did hotspot fixes for the AV-8B. But, the good news is that can carry over to the other jets in BMS . Feel free to check out the Fighters’ Manual in the Mafia Files on how that is done.
Also, some of the jets have very austere cockpits. So, the Manual also describes how to put a fully functional Hornet or Viper pit in your jet of choice. FYI, we have been told by the BMS Devs that the hotspot fixes will be included in the stock 4.36.
I believe I mentioned elsewhere that we have refined the Hornet’s ground dynamics part of the flight model, and are currently working on the aerial flight dynamics . We plan to release the entire flight model and physical modeling package as a single release
The Other jets in BMS do all share the Viper avionics.

Greetings all -

Just curious of anyone knows who created this check list for the F-18…
https://www.pdf-archive.com/2017/10/11/checklist-f18c/checklist-f18c.pdf

I’d like to see if there is an updated version of this checklist.

Cheers,
Jolly

Hi, Jolly,
I don’t know who wrote this , but it’s a good one. As for other options, what I use is something I wrote up a while ago. These are .pngs, so you can put them on kneeboards. My purpose with this was to give a little “Hornet Feel” , and kept it as close to NATOPS as I could

@drtbkj Thanks for the info! If you don’t mind, I would like to combined your checklist into the F-18 checklist to bring it up to a…“community standard”. <img src=“/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f60a.png?v=opoh9i0f0lo” alt=“” class=“not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji–blush” /> <img src=“/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f44d.png?v=opoh9i0f0lo” alt=“” class=“not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji–+1” />

@JollyFE Here’s one I did based off of the one that was posted. I made it easier to read and more like the checklists you find in the BMS manuals for the Viper. Get it from this dropbox <a href=“https://www.dropbox.com/s/e53re8uds8yp3t8/BMS 4.35 F-18 Checklist.pages.pdf?dl=0” target=“_blank”>link

@JollyFE It would be great if you could “pretty it up”. When I wrote this I was trying to combine a checklist with notes.
