BMS Other Fighters Mafia (BMSOFM) Journal

This is not to be considered as version to be added to standart install, it will be just for us in the meantime. Things will be changed in future, hard to say how many impacts it will do to f18 cockpit and other cockpits.
P.S.: Anti ice added also. Beside probe heat switch, i think it is right position.
P.P.S.: i see that SimF18FCSGainNORM and SimF18FCSGainORIDE or toggle directives were probably removed, binding doesn’t work….Edit:
Take off trim - add this line should work when hold the button
SimF18FCSTOTrim -0.44429 1.287697 -2.231613 20 312 1
Found more precise point, code updated.

@FoxBMS:
Hello drtbkj. Yes, i remeber years ago, it was actually only and most time detective work. I live with that until now….what else remains to you…? :D. Now when i know BMS structure little bit more, then lot of things can be much quicker tweaked. I want to answer your post 68.
- some of them not added by me as you mentioned, but i think it doesn’t matter right now, anyway, f-ack and drift are on Up Front Controls panel. Try these black rounded buttons. I’m working on the actual f18 cockpit manual…
- Jfs 1 left click and 2 right click, working, yes. Good idea is also bind SimJfsStartDown to some keyboard shortcut in case of discharge both jfs and must call ground crew to recharge.
- a) It is bound to anti skid switch, yes b) yes it is,it was immediate idea, probably not final layout , if you got better idea, let’s put it here ofc
- IFEI knob is for IFEI display brightness (engine display brightness - not implemented). I think it’s not good idea to move hms brigtness there, sorry.
- I will help you to find Takeoff trim coords but i will disappoint you with working kneeboards. The new system is probably tied up to F-16 legs model or cockpit only, because i already tried to make it work by adding hotspots and functions to config files. No luck, it doesn’t work in f18 cockpit. At least for me.
About FLCSReset and BIT. I’m not sure if we need FLCSPowerTest since in the newer version of f18 cockpit flcs power test indicators was removed (There were four thick dots in the middle on 3rd MFD)
You can check here around 7:00
Check also this thread pls.
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?40525-F-A-18-Improvements-modifications
There is also link for download some stuff you looking for. I was already dealing with that some time ago. So only thing i can help you is takeoff trim . I hope i didn’t miss something…
Hi, Fox, good morning,
- I’ve always been of he view, mainly because I don’t have the skills to do it, to not be bothered too much by things like f-ack not being on the panel. I mean, even in our Viper you have to take your hands off the controls. But, my friend, if we can then I say lets go for it. This is our time to make this happen . I’m happy you’re mentioned the cockpit manual. I’d love to share the load with you on that.
- concur.
4)cool - the rl Bug’s HMS switch is actually on the anti-spin panel, so the BMS location is actually more accurate. I had just had the wacky idea of freeing up the “map gain” and making it the gain control. We’re good as is, and please never be sorry for giving input!
- Bad Bay have me a tip
set g_bActivateDebugStuff 1
set g_b3DClickableCockpitDebug 1
that I haven’t had a chance to experiment , yet. I will later today. But, however that works ,your work with coordinates and everything else is invaluable. I saw your take off trim, cudos… Too bad about the kneeboards, but at least we know to not waste a lot of time on them for now
I agree with you that we should have FLCS reset on the panel. I tried just renaming my test to reset, but it didn’t work. I’ll be experimenting later today on that
Update: I rechecked my values, and it’s working now.
More later today…

Here’s our update for the evening…
Take off trim and FLCS reset working perfectly. In fact the only hotspot not working in’pit is Master Caution.
Fox,
What you have in your 1799 is
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
And mine is currently
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
The only difference is the - sign in the bottom entry’s 0.594… I’ve tried both , and neither is working
I’ve also been experimenting with parking brake and landing light. Right now my 1799 is back to the Viper methodology. I thought it might be nice to give people the option. What do you think? As you wrote, at some point we’ll need to decide which goes to the Dev’s
To the Group: As soon as we get this master caution issue solved, I’ll be posting the 1799 here. Also, attached here now is the Hornet checklist, updated for 4.35 -
@Bad:
Add these two lines in your config file :
set g_bActivateDebugStuff 1
set g_b3DClickableCockpitDebug 1Launch the game, go in 3D and now you can see all the hotspots in the cockpit (XYZ values are on the top of the screen). You are now able to find the good XYZ values for a new hotspot.
Hi, BB,. Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner on this, I put these entries into config, but when I go into campaign the 'pit looks normal. Am I missing some step?
-
One more update tonight, then I’m going flying
We now have a working BIT switch in the cockpit, though it’s location may move. As I had the coordinates for the oxygen supply toggle, I put it there. When I get better on mapping coordinates, there are a couple of switches in the aft left corner that would be perfect for it.
In the meantime, the entry into the 1799 is…
SimFLTBIT 0.29526 1.357344 -2.333838 20 129 1 -

maybe this could help ?
Hi, Lolo, Thx for the links, I will definitely be looking at them. I need to be able to go into the cockpits of the Hornet, Harrier, and the others we want to address and get the get the x,y,z coordinates for every button in the cockpit. The biggest challenge for me is that I’ve never been exposed to that. So, I’ve gotten to where I can repair a hotspot if I know the coordinates. But I still don’t know a lot about how it all works.
For example, last night I was trying to put in a new hotspot in for the IFF Master knob .I tried various things. I ended up with the command, 124, and w as the Viper’s -CM50 file was set up, with the known position of a switch in the Hornet spliced in, and got…
SimIFFMasterDec 0.11821 1.299701 -2.347537 35 124 2 w
SimIFFMasterInc 0.11821 1.299701 -2.347537 35 124 1 w
Unfortunately, it didn’t work. in 'pit. I need to learn, for example, what the 124 means. The file lists the values after the coordinates as " <size><snd><msbtn><wheel>" I need to learn how to work with them. That way we can do more then just repair hotspots</wheel></msbtn></snd></size> -
124 means the sound number of the switch….check the manual about the sounds of the switches
Btw Learn from what i found…. I had just had the wacky idea of freeing up the “map gain” and making it the gain control. We’re good as is, and please never be sorry for giving input!
Remember, if u take function out, the buttons will get scattered. The iff master work different in F-18, there is no master knob like in F-16, i recommending to leave it as it is.
I think 3dbuttons is all right, why u need to do any changes? It works good i think… -

Good to know about the Manuals, I’ll be RTFM’ing.
Am I assuming what your diagram is saying is that x,y,z are “skewed” on the Hornet’s ICP? THAT will make mapping fun.
And, it’s very good to know about functions getting scattered. I’m just glad I didn’t goon up my whole setup! So, are we saying that adding a knob/switch / button is not something we can do without changing what we have?
Have you had a chance to look at my Master Caution issue? -
Hi drtbkj,
Am I assuming what your diagram is saying is that x,y,z are “skewed” on the Hornet’s ICP?
no no, icp panel sign on my diagram is working something like clue or mark, it’s just little help with orientation. I don’t know where is exactly zero point 0,0,0 but i think somewhere in front of icp panel and little bit down.
anyway, my diagram, plus and minus values should help you to easier determine position when you will looking for new hotspots. About the master caution issue, Pls visit this
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?40525-F-A-18-Improvements-modifications
Download the pack and try my 3dbuttons.dat . It must work. I don’t have any issues with master caution, there are two hotspots of master caution extinguish, on the left and on the right, that’s why -0.594749 and 0.594749 of Y axis values. There will be some mismatch in your 3dbuttons.dat file probably. Like i said for me it works good. So, are we saying that adding a knob/switch / button is not something we can do without changing what we have?
Maybe i phrased wrong. So just do what you want and you will see if it works or not. If you need any other help with whatever, write me. Cheers bro.

Drtbkj;
I am rapidly approaching a beta version of Korea 2012 Mega Pack for 4.35. In the DB, that smartaxe expertly built me, it contains Metalhead’s F-22 Pit and MyKinge’s F-14 pit. I have permission from both authors to include/advance the projects so that they may remain compatible with BMS. If any of your talented simmers are willing to take on the challenge, I can send them some of my files. I think all of uses along with original authors would love to these projects completed and fully integrated with BMS.

[Sidetrack - Drtbkj, FoxBMS, I suggest putting together your knowledge and WhiteFang’s knowledge on how to mod the cockpit callback pieces or create a tutorial as you do it. I’d do it in one word/pdf document (like your F/A-18 Checklist) or Wiki page as having it scattered across one (or more) forum posts is tricky.
If we can add this to other information on how to create or mod cockpits and the tools needed, this would surely help the community - compared to other mods cockpits (in different theaters) seems to be a neglected area of work - possibly because it is not documented in one place. Perhaps doing that would help generate interest and relieve the Devs of some concerns.]

Good Day, Fox,Chuckles,Mypc , and All.
After a couple of days of good riding, I “played hooky” yesterday and just flew missions. Today, back to “work”( albeit, fun work)…
Fox, thx for the link. Sweet. As soon as I get the Master Caution working, I’ll be posting my 1799. You and I should get together on how we move forward(I’ll pm you a bit later)
Updates: I got the IFF Master knob working. I put the parking back back to up/down , instead of inc/dec, to be more “Hornet like”. Yesterday as I was flying I got more used to how the pbrake and the antiskid switches were working in’pit.
Chuckles, although the level of my programming knowledge has probably become painfully obvious , I have really enjoyed your K’12’s in the past, and would be honored to help where I can. I’ll pm you my email address, if that will help.
Mypc, your thoughts on info consolidation exactly match my own. I’ve been trying to avoid scattering info everywhere, which is why I’ve been moving to consolidate it here. I’ve been presenting my step by step process both to get help, as Fox has stepped up to the plate, and to get people back in the air quickly. I’m also finding the checklists/hotspots/cockpits interrelated. As I learn something about hotspots, for example, it affects the Checklist, etc. And so it goes. And, since I love to tinker, I’m up to Mod 5 of the Checklist!
You wrote about “modding” the cockpits. Although the initial focus was simply to get the cockpits back to functionality, moving beyond that is definitely a goal. I don’t see us ever using true Hornet/other jets avionics. But there is still room to grow for the Hornet, Rhino, and the other jets. That’s something I’ve learned from working with Fox’s more polished 1799
The Mafia is young, so the best way forward is still undecided. I don’t know, for example, to what extent the Dev’s would want to coordinate. I don’t mean that negatively. After all, the entire purpose of the Mafia is to help the Dev’s, who are focused in other directions. Plus, the thing is , this will be a long term, ongoing, process. U1-Ux may( and probably will) bring changes, as will 4.36-4.yy. But, if the basic manual is in place, it be be updated as we go. Like the Devs do with the other manuals, and without rewriting the whole thing each time.I don’t want this to be “just about me”. For example, the checklist. I want to know what you folks think about it. By definition, a BMS Other Jet Checklist is a compromise and thus a subjective process. However, my personal plan at the moment is to create one pdf containing Checklists, the changes reflected in the 1799(including the choices it gives you, which will be explained),how you can DIY your own cockpit , changes to those to the BMS Docs F-18 diagram , little tricks like adding HTS to the Bug, and the procedures such as Takeoff . I guess you could call it a BMS Mafia Manual( though perhaps with a more politically correct name ). I don’t have the skill, yet, to present images like the cockpit diagrams, but at least I can describe the changes. I’ll plan to start with the Hornet, for 3 reasons. First, it’s the jet I know. Second, it seems to me that the majority of people not flying the Viper are flying the Hornet. And third, what fixes the Hornet( as in hotspots) can easily be used in other jets. I/ we can crank out a Harrier 3d.dat pretty quickly, for example. So, from the basic Manual ,appendix’s can be added for any specific jet and/or campaign needed.

Here’s our update for the evening…
Take off trim and FLCS reset working perfectly. In fact the only hotspot not working in’pit is Master Caution.
Fox,
What you have in your 1799 is
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
And mine is currently
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1
ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 20 127 1

To the Group: As soon as we get this master caution issue solved, I’ll be posting the 1799 here. Also, attached here now is the Hornet checklist, updated for 4.35The update of the evening is the aforementioned Master Caution. I looked again at the F-16cm-50 3d.dat ( my go to reference)and noticed where our value of 20 is 60 in the cm-50.
When I changed the value to-ExtinguishMasterCaution -2.17190 -0.594749 -0.562107 60 127 1
it now works but the hot spot is the left Fire warning light.
Close but no cigar.
It was definately time to RTFM and try to figure out the x,y,z’s once and for all…
Bad Boy had suggested changing the zeros to ones on
set g_bActivateDebugStuff 1
set g_b3DClickableCockpitDebug 1
which I did. Now in’pit the hotspots are identified. However, although the little red pov circle moves around the pit with TrackIr, the x,y,z coordinates displayed upper center do not change. AARRGH.
Time for Yours Truly to go flying… -
Hi, inside Art\CkptArt\1799\3dckpit.dat i use hudfont=5 for better HUD numbers view.

Hi, inside Art\CkptArt\1799\3dckpit.dat i use hudfont=5 for better HUD numbers view.
Thanks for that,M. I’ll be experimenting…
Meanwhile, referring to post 85, I’ve been in contact with FoxBMS ( My new Best Buddy) and we are going to collaborate on the Hornet. That will help the most people, and if we focus we can see just how far we can take it. I’m also willing to take what I learn and help the other jets, but I need data on what they’re problems are.
Meanwhile, back to the Bug. Thanks to Fox the Master Caution issue is fixed.
Fox published his “Mod 3” a while ago. As stated before, his adds more, and I hope share the difference with you. However, since I understand mine better, and to give options in a couple of areas, I am attaching my 1799 “Mod 2” here as well as a Changelog and the latest Checklist.
What Fox and I send to the Devs has yet to be determined, but this will at least get people “back in the air”.And my entire 1799 3dbutton.dat is…

Thanks a lotFresco
You are very welcome, Fresno. Enjoy!
Meanwhile, here is the Changelog for my 1799 3dbutton.dat as well as pics of my working notes of the cockpit changes. As previously noted, this may not be what we submit to the Dev’s for 4.35 U1. I don’t know when that’s coming out, BTW, and knew better then to ask! Fox’s version (what I’m calling “Mod 3”), that he’s posted in this thread, is more “polished”, and does more. I just wanted to get something out to anyone having trouble getting in the air . Feel free to ask questions! I can tell you that this Mod 2 is very stable and has been tested in’pit multiple times.
Now that the Bug is “fixed” and improved, The Mafia will move on to seeing just what we can do with the jet. Fox has some good ideas, and as he’s the technical brains of the team, my place will be to support him . At the same time, I’ll be working on the “Other Jet Manual”(still thinking about a cool name-suggestions?). At the moment I’m thinking of , as mypc said, a one source Manual for the info we’ve shared in this thread. But, I’ll be asking the Dev’s if they want a standalone Manual or “bit sized” for inclusion into the exiting manuals.
Initial outline-
Changelogs/cockpit descriptions, hot spot changes, etc, like the BMS Dash-1 and Naval Manuals. For that, I’ll need "prettier " versions of the pics I’ve attached here.
How to fix your own hotspots
Checklist(s?)
Procedures, like the Case 1 Departure in the Checklist .This would be a logical addition to the BMS Naval Manual
Config Issues. Ex: In a previous BMS version the Launch Bar got messed up. How to fix that. How to add HTS to the Hornet, if desired.
In terms of tone, I’m thinking more for new BMS people. So, right now I have a question-What would YOU like in a Manual?
