RDP Server and BMS 3d resolution
-
Hi all,
Have a dedicated server running BMS, but want to fix the resolution to be less than the RDP resolution so i can see other things on the server, but no matter what i do with the RDP resolution, BMS 3D fills the RDP resolution each time.Is there any way to set/fix the 3d resolution, so it does not get changed when I connect with a larger RDP resolution.
I can do a CTL+ALT+END, and get the focus to the task bar as a workaround, but its very clunky.
Cheers

Does the RDP host run BMS in windowed or borderless mode.
We run a BMS dedi on a AWS EC2 virtual instance without GPU.
BMS is set to 1024x768 windowed mode and will stay in that resolution no matter of the RDP Client resolutionGesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk

Cheers OAK,
Got it going as you suggested in window mode. 1024x800, and using the UOAF bmsdedi DX11 wrapper in place of gpu.Don’t think i could get it working until I installed a DX11 GPU though (even with the wrapper). Is there anything special you did to eliminate the GPU completely?

1. The instance we are running doesn’t have a GPU at all.
2. If your host machine has a physical GPU it should not be more than to drop the d3d11.dll from UOAF github release page in Falcon BMS 4.35/Bin/x64 and run BMS. The dedi wrapper will kick in as soon as you enter 3d
3. Only if the host as like in our case doesn’t even have a GPU at all there might be addidional steps as you won’t be able to set stuff through the BMS Setup UI. So stuff that would be set in Setup -> graphics we create on a client machine and transfer with the callsign files to the virtual machine. Resolution we change on the Host virtual machine by manually hex editing the d3d11.dsp file. -
I have also seen that in the past when I use RDP…
But to be honest, other software like anydesk or else can workaround this issue…
I’ll check with the team if we can have a setting like dedi servers maintain res of 1024x768…
Would make sense since host doesn’t need to have a full 3D screen…

The Veterans-Gaming server ran 3D fine in a 1024 window on the desktop until very recently. Although the loss coincided with the U2 update i think that is just coincidence and possibly some recent win10 update has changed something. I can`t see what else could have.

Many thanks Max,
While that would be nice, i would not give this any priority, as there are work arounds, and it would only affect a very small number of the community. I’m sure the devs have much more important issues to resolve. -
My server doesn’t display full screen. Bordered window, 3D resolution set to my needs.

Cheers OAK, might give those a go when i have ‘too much time’ on my hands. For the moment my cheap passive cooled DX11GPU is enough to get it running, then the d3d11 stuff kicks in as you describe.
Not pretty but does the job for our small group….
