Pico 4 experience and settings
-
@spotdott Probably, but I find VD much better than Streaming Assistant. So can’t say I’ve bothered.
-
VD is king. You can add sharpness filter etc… really makes things crisp and clear
-
@haukka81 is VD the app on steam? Also does it only support wireless connection?
-
@spotdott No… You buy VD in the Pico Store and install the app on your VR headset. Then download the streamer app for the PC here: https://www.vrdesktop.net - and install it.
Do NOT buy VD on Steam. That version doesn’t support Pico 4.
-
I’m seeing better overall performance with SSW and video buffering off in the VD settings. Just an FYI for anyone wanting to try bumping your FPS a bit in heavy BMS scenarios.
-
Does VD only support wireless? And if yes, do you need a Wifi 6 router to get a decent image quality?
-
Wifi 6 router is best. Low latency.

Can anyone helpme on how to open the game in vr? Just copy the settings from the first post, disabled all my other monitors, but only managed to fly 2 times, and dont know even how, the rest of the time it just crash or stutter like crazy.
I have the pico 4 via ethernet cable with usb-c adaptor, I get 150 mbps and good connection with VD. When I open the alternative launcher it opens automatically steamvr, and then I click launch and I get to the menu but when I go take off does the same every time. -
@javo Virtual Desktop via cable isn’t officially supported. I suspect this is what’s causing you problems. Have a look at your performance overlay in VD when in BMS 3D. What values are yellow/orange?
What are your hardware specs?

My Pico 4 works well with BMS 4.37, however a word of warning on the Chinese-made interfaces that are sold on ebay.
They all look to be the same, but sold by many different Chinese-based sellers, as so many of their products are these days.
When mine arrived (to UK after 3 weeks) I was very happy and got to using it straights away. The fit is very snug I mean very snug! With prescription lenses fitted, my nose and eyebrows were touching the lens rims. But I was happy, as the FoV seemed better, which was one of the main things I wanted, along with increased comfort. However, after a week or so, I started suffering from pretty bad eye strain, which got more and more intense in a very short space of time. In the end, I switched back to the OEM interface and guess what? Didn’t notice any difference in FoV and it didn’t seem anywhere near as uncomfy as I’d thought it was!
I’ve seen a lot of people wanting one, so thought a word of warning was in order, as these seem to be the only ones currently available.

Just got one couple of days ago (Amazon delivered in 2 days europe), and moving from a reverb G1000 ( V1), I’m blown away by it.
Pancake lens are the real game changer, and there’s other bonuses too. electronic IPD adjustment, very good and easy to access colour pass through. Light weight and comfortable, but a little bit of light bleed at the sides. Very silent fan means no fogging! Sound is probably the weakest feature, and big over the ear phones are hard to fit with it.
I really did’nt use the Reverb for anything else except sims, but this headset has made other stuff so much fun with the wire free use.
Clarity of the image at high settings is comparable with my old reverb, but the wide in focus area, no god rays, brightness, and general quality of the image is so superior.
Few times I tried it crashes going to 3d in BMS, and i’ll be back here for help with that, but in DCS is absolutely gorgeous. (note I’m running a high end machine with it), and it (through virtual desktop) uses open-composite to bypass steam-vr out of the box.
And it does not use Windows WMR!
Cant wait to get it going with BMS.

I also got mine last week. I tried it over Streaming Assistant and mainly in BMS. I spent two whole nights tweaking settings. I will share my discoveries soon. I am glad that you like Pico 4. But I am still not OK because I cannot read for example bullseye in the MFDs. Unfortunately, I don’t have the Virtual Desktop and a Wifi 6 modem.
Is it normal that I cannot read bullseye?
-
@TUAF-Ripper I can read mine just fine in VD… I really recommend you get it. A Wifi5 router also works just fine, you don’t need Wifi6. The $40 investment in a dedicated router was well worth it for me. Depending on your current setup, you might not even need one. The VD Discord has recommended routers in all price ranges.

I recommend you to invest the money (20 Euro or something) for virtual desktop. The streaming assistent coming with the pico is still beta and gives you MUCH less quality and sharpness then VD.
-
I also recommend to go for a USB 3 cable and use USB tethering. This solved every issue for me.
-
@Razor161 I find that wireless streaming with VD is superior to Pico Streaming Assistant connected with USB. Both performance and the visuals are better, but USB connection at least makes the Pico software usable. The Streaming Assistant isn’t very well developed IMO.
Your comment is very general. Tell us more about your setup and settings, and what issues you’ve had.

@ipetter
Virtual Desktop + USB3 cable + USB tethering (activated via an app found on APKPure).
I run VD on ultra rendering setting.
My system:
Ryzen 7 7700X
AMD 6800XT
32 GB RAM -
@Razor161 Thanks… A bit more info on this app and how to setup would be most welcome, if someone else wants to try it I’ve heard about this before, but haven’t looked into the details of it.
Users should note that VD with a tethered connection is officially unsupported.

@ipetter
I’m in the office right now and can not check which app exactly I installed but I think it was this one
https://m.apkpure.com/de/hotspot-and-tethering-shortcut/com.pw.hotspotshortcutThe workflow is simple:
- Connect the Pico 4 to your wifi.
- Activate USB tethering using the app (Approve the connection if Windows asks if you want to use the new connection).
- Connect VD (works only on wifi).
- Disable wifi (Pico will shift all network traffic to tethering automatically)
- Run the game.
In case you lost internet connection on your PC after the network connection switched to tethering you need to change the network priority for your network adapter to a value which is lower than the tethering adapter. Here’s a guide for it:

I forgot to tell that I am currently using a laptop and it has 3060 on it. I cannot increase resolution above HD (in Streaming Assistant which means 1x native resolution). I assume that you all have a better GPU than me and use above 1x resolution?
