3 issues with adjusting textures
-
Hey guys,
Been fooling around making the current blck52 more kind of an BAF MLU-ish styled pit, where possible (only by changing dds textures).
Now 3 odd things came up and I don’t understand why. Maybe more experienced skinners can point me in the correct direction?1. According to LODeditor the large red part on the 8002.dds is used for the color of the split switch guards (EPU & nuclear consent). On my altered 8002 file I didn’t touch that part, it is still the original red surface on that area. However in pit (& in LOD 3D viewer) it is now all of a sudden grey. Am I mssing something, another texture part is being used that I have somehow overwritten with grey/black?
2. The EPU fuel gauge still has the transparant background according to what I can see. However in pit I now get a flat black square background behind the round gauge (you may need to up the brightness of your screen to see it). Any clues?
3. I changed the backlighting to white except for the parts that are NVIS green in BAF MLU’s. On the 8004.dds everything of the trim panel is set to white. However the roll trim needle remains green in pit. When looking with the LODeditor it seems that needle is actually sharing the texture of the ICP FLIR arrow. Hence the ICP is NVIS in MLU, it makes sense the roll trim needle then also appears green.
Am I seeing that correctly, that seems strange that one needle in the whole pit shares a texture of a none needle related part?
If that is indeed the case, can I just move that red circle in lod editor to another position in the texture to use that part instead. Is it that easy? Thanks in advance.

You must save skins with transparent parts/layers as DXT3 .dds , I think you just saved these as DXT1.

That’s above my current knowledge. I’m on a Mac. So I open a dds in XnViewMP, save that as png, open that png in Pixelmator, save that as a new png, open that new one in XnViewMP again and save it as a new dds Don’t see any options regarding DXT1 or 3 :s
Weird thing is though, the 8002 also contains transparency for the rudder pedals, backup TCN and UHF panel. These parts remain transparant in the pit after saving. Wouldn’t saving it in the wrong DXT also make those parts black?EDIT: just checked the properties. Original DDS is DXT5, and my altered version too apparently.

bootcamp->photoshop+nvidia dds plugin. Done.

Photoshop costs money, so not just ‘done’…
Beside, all do respect, I have changed more dds files with a hell lot more transparency parts in it without any issue so far, so highly doubt the program or type of DXT I’m saving it in is causing one of those 3 issues? -
May I suggest GIMP?
I use it every now and then, it is pretty mighty, free, open source, and available for Windows, Linux and Mac.In gimp while saving, it also asks you with what parameters (mipmap, compression, colorrange) you want to save it as dds.

I know and used gimp, I prefer Pixelmator on Mac actually.
Still; I don’t think it’s a parameter saving issue here as other transparent parts of the same file are working fine, as is another altered dds with lots more transparant parts.
Also the transparency thing is only one of the 3 issues I have.
