Can the super hornet enthusiasts provide me with good cockpit and ejection seat reference pics. i cant seem to find reliable sources. all angles would be preferable for a good one-to-one.
If pics like this would help, I could do some scans and provide decent images. The source was the first edition of this- https://www.reidairpublishing.com/books/the-modern-super-hornet-guide-2nd-edition
BTW, I recommend this book, as it has photos of every part of the jet -
@drtbkj thank you for the all these sources, really helps me optimize my workflow for the jet, instead of wasting time finding good references on google, you guys came in a clutch

Work on cockpit

Love the Hornet but will we see it’s own avionics?
-
@Mower That depends on whether the devs consider it(F-15C has its own avionics so its possible), since its already in the game, lots of love for it, we might just get avionics eventually.
-
@okayasugf The Eagle is nowhere near as versatile as the Hornet. IMHO that would have been a better choice…
-
@Mower - I very much doubt it…trying to do Hornet avionics is a serious task, and trying to do Super Hornet avionics is a step yet again.

@Mower true, but as an Air to Air fan, it’s fun to finally see a “module” embraces that. DCS has the F-14 but without a human RIO, it’s a little crippled and we’re not going to talk about the simplified F-15/SU-27 LOMAC modules. Even then F-15C has better BFM performance than the F-14. It does seem most combat sim players shy away from Air Superiority fighter role and get enough of the role occasionally with the F-16 or F/A-18 to quench that thirst, but they are multi-role and they both have weaknesses in either BFM or BVR that truly the F-15C doesn’t have. So I’m quite intrigued by F-15C and will be giving it some time in the future as it gets more complete.
However, I would point out that in the news update on U3, the BMS team is discussing making the avionics mods more modular so that things like the Hornet avionics could be more addressed it seems by dedicated teams possibly outside BMS or maybe those specific people brought into BMS for just that portion. We both know how the quality of DCS community mods can range very widely on focus to detail, etc. It would be a shame for BMS mods to loss the level of fidelity that BMS brings in general. But, to be fair anytime you take out a non-Viper plane in BMS, you are already sacrificing that some (but at least you have realistic ATC and not completely useless AI wingmen ).

@Snake122 - I’m left curious as to just how “modern” these new Eagle models are going to actually be…given that the latest Eagles (and quite a few other “modern” jets) all have AESA radars these days, and in the past the BMS devs have seriously stiff-armed modeling them for “not knowing how they work”…which I’ve always taken to mean that they don’t know what the displays look like…which is fair, actually.
And radar performance is yet again another matter…and giant leap.

@Stevie It doesn’t matter to me. Again, I’ve accepted my best zone for combat simming fidelity is 20 years ago, when the Eagle was in its twilight of its prime. Give me full fidelity mechanical scan, primitive to no datalinks, etc. to full fidelity and it’s true challenges instead of guessing at the modern Gee-Whiz easy.
I’m not going to be a modern fighter pilot IRL so the new systems don’t have the draw that they used to, give me the full up complexity when I was in my pilot prime, my vintage, which just so happens where we also have the best declassification and debatable the last of the challenging avionics and pilot’s management of all the aircraft systems. BMS shouldn’t do 4.5/5th Gen IMO, it will lose is hallmark fidelity. But that’s me!

It would take hard code access, so right now it’s on the Devs. But, as Snake wrote, who knows what the future may bring.
I agree that the Hornet would have been a more popular choice, based upon the OFM Membership and the feedback I’ve gotten over the years. I can fairly safely say, from the OFM perspective, that if the Membership wants it and when/if we can do it, we’ll give it one heck of a try. -
@Snake122 - I have to talk to RL pilots daily…so for me, it matters that it’s at least “close”.
And it’s another reason I don’t fool with anything but the Viper in BMS - because it’s “closest”!
-
@Radium
how would go about adding the canopy edges? the open and closing part of the canopy -
@Stevie I know buddy! I was thinking as I wrote that, in the at least 10 years I’ve known you here, maybe the older boards too, I appreciate your perspective on all those things. I remember your dedication to proper muscle memory, you’re obvious real world SME with pilot contacts etc. Even though we don’t always agree, I know you have an informed perspective.
But we’re getting old my friend As I am elluding to in my previous post, it’s part nostalgia, part practically when it comes to AESA, 5th Gen stuff, maybe Link16 even, I don’t want to put BMS at risk with the classified information issues like we’ve seen with the other sim and “sim”. Put me in my rocking chair with prune juice, buddy. I’m just remembering the “good old days.” For me though, there’s nothing wrong with that because there is so much more BMS can do with say 1980-2010 to keep them busy until the current stuff is available IMO.
Anyway, enough derailing, this old man will get off his soap box and let @okayasugf get back to modeling and hopefully soon other dedicated members like @drtbkj will bring dedicated Hornet avionics to his good looking WIP model.

almost done with all the details

just added some color for fun

Looks great!
-
@Snake122 - you got that right! I’m looking forward to retirement more every hour…but I’ve been at this so long that I worry that I never will actually be “retired”.
It’s been a good ride…
-
@okayasugf - all of the lines blend pretty smoothly - no need to worry about any “filleting” or such. I think you’ve got it, the way you’ve done it.

Gun port done
