I have a question concerning the use of the IFF in real-life situations:
Suppose an air patrol leader interrogates via the IFF and receives a reply from an allied aircraft… do the other allied aircrafts flying in the vicinity of the patrol leader also receive the reply from the IFF even if they don’t interrogate? -
What you descripe is known as passive IFF. It’s possible, but no standard feature. Typically the one who interrogates processes the response. The problem with passive receipts of replies is that you only get a bearing, not range, unless the response contains related information.

It depends on the Mode, really…some modes (like 3C and 3) even light up air traffic radars. And they hate it when that happens…
