AI Bombing

Good Day, All.
I’ve been flying SEAD supporting both F-18 E and F AI in 2 OCA strikes with GBU-31s… In both cases they simply didn’t bomb. At least, no events and “no damage to target” in Debrief. Both flights did shoot down Bandits enroute, but were unobstructed at the target . The first flight I just assigned the airbase as the target, in the second I assigned specific targets.
Does anyone have any tips on “inspiring” the AI? Could the weapon selection be a factor? -
@drtbkj Are you certain they didn’t jettisoned their bombs if they got jumped. Those are heavy bombs to be rolling, turning, diving… doing it again…
-
@drtbkj They often abort their task if they encounter enough threats…
In fact, I completed this package in some eccentric way. Our pilots shot down the entire MiG-23 squadron, so there was no need to destroy the squadron’s airfield. Well, before they got reinforcements

@Quasi_Stellar @Foxtrot701 I think you may be right. The two flights only had minimal threat inbound, a single and a 2-ship respectively. And they engaged at BVR range, so they shouldn’t have had to jettison ordinance. But, the question is if the AI can “think” that way.
It has been mentioned elsewhere that the AI seems more able to perform in AA situations. So, perhaps the workaround is for me to take the strike flight and let the AI be the escort, though I’ve had AI escorts leave at weird times. However, I’ve AI flights as BARCAP or TARCAP and are especially effective.
As for AG ordinance, I wonder if certain types of AG ordinance are better on AI. For example, GBU vs. LGB -

As for AG ordinance, I wonder if certain types of AG ordinance are better on AI. For example, GBU vs. LGBAI having a AG mission type (excluding sead) have specific engagement conditions. They will normally engage only in very defensive situation (spiked STT at less than 15NM IIRC) .
Once they are engaged , if they are evading missiles they will likely drop their AG loadout to increase their chances to survive in case their speed is too low to evade
In WvR they will drop AG when they loose angular advantage or even when their energy is too low
Overall if they engage , it means the mission should be a aborted

Thanks, Mav, that does indeed explain it. I just flew another mission where I was the striker and the AI was DEAD, and the same thing happened. They engaged Bandits enroute , then flew to the target area but didn’t shoot their HARM, despite emitting SA-10’s in the area. Strangely enough, they may have accomplished their mission, as the SA-10’s stopped emitting! They weren’t destroyed, though, as I had them on TGP
