Unsolved strange AI behavior : AI fighters go to crash in low altitude
-
I noticed a strange AI behavior when I sent the order "go to home " in low altitude
in this current case, I m on middle on relief and the patrol follows me. After sending the order, the patrol is explodes to take heading to airbase and they hit hills each time…
the issue is reproductible
the TE is available and also ACMI here

Thanks , please describe exactly the situation when you ask for RTB? Steerpoint? Altitude ? Position ?
-
I was at about 2500 ft MSL (500ft AGL ) in direction to steerpoint 9 at 20nm with heading 292°
The steerpoint 9 is the manufactory at 6nm south from Sadae-Gol (KTO)
patrol flight is in wedge formation and I ask to go RTB , just after the patrol engages a left turn in direction to hills…they turn …then after they try to avoid the hills but it’s too late

Good that you identified this as well. I had a couple of freak accidents like this with the ai also flying into the ground.

Just a thought: The AI might inherit the human lead settings. Could they be “borrowing” QNH settings and if that was 2992 they may not get a good read on ground level. And/or if leads radar altimeter is inactive, they may not have theirs switched on either, which may cause them to misjudge ground level.
Not saying that would be good AI behavior, they should take responsibility for ground avoidance themselves, but maybe part of the issue

I cooked a potential fix next release

We had seen something like this in OFM-Taiwan. There was a airbase surrounded by mountains and the AI had problems with that.

I know, Mav. Wasn’t seeking help, just describing behavior
