Default Loadout?
-
Hi all
I had a DEAD mission today in KTO that was targeting ZSU’s and other AAA guns. The loadout for myself and my wingman was HARMs.
I changed mine and my wingman’s to CBUs.It seems odd to me that the AI would give us HARMS when the mission was to destroy AAA guns.
Do you guys change campaign mission default loadouts to a more personalized loadout or do you just go with the default?
Thanks!

@CaptCanada I do when I do a DEAD sortie I switch to SBDs. For OCA Strikes I switch from the 65G to the GBU-31AP

It defaults to HARMs as it thinks DEAD is killing radars. My default is that default loadout is likely not what I want.

@CaptCanada I change loadout to whatever suits the mission. Sometimes the ATO is good…sometimes… not so good. I think it you polled every flyer here you would get close to 100 percent change loadouts…

First, I would never target AAA in a campaign as long as any fire control or even surveillance radars of the SA-2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 10 are still active.
Wait, of course you may want to take out these to free the way for your A-10 and helicopters near a front battle.I’m not absolutely sure, but I think HQ gives you a loadout depending purely on mission type and doesn’t take the target type into account. For SEAD/DEAD, this means of course HARMs. Because even with those you can go after the radar of a ZSU-23 or the surveillance radar of an IR SAM.
You can make your life easier if you save and then always load some of your preferred loadouts.
I don’t have a problem with the SEAD configuration, but more with Strike loadouts, because the engine always gives you Laser Mavericks, even for runways on an OCA strike.
For this, I have 3 presets with GBU-31 AP (runways and ammo dumps), GBU-31 HP (everything other) and JASSM (i.e. in Nordic Theater for standoff attacks). I load with these additionally purely AMRAAMs, a Sniper POD and even a HTS (although I have no HARMs but can see the nasty fire control radars with T after the number).
Another thought: We spend much time over planning packages, flight plans, target steerpoints,… anyways, so a short visit to the loadout screen should always be suitable.
There is only a problem with all the other AI flights fragged all over the theater (because they go after runways and underground factories with Laser Mavericks). So simplest solution for you: Save a JSOW and one or two CBU (one for tanks and one for trucks and infantry) loadouts.
But be aware: When loading one, there are often faults with the fuel amount. I have even seen negative numbers or get overload warnings when there is none. To correct this, just draw the fuel slider left and right again. -
I’d use LMAV or LGBs for this…AAA, specifically.

@CaptCanada There are so many variables that go into mission planning that the ATO just gives a generic loadout based on mission type. HARMs are not a bad loadout for day 1 of a campaign but they’re most effective when combined with a second plane carrying CBUs. That was a common loadout in Desert Storm when you’d have a two ship flight, one plane lobs HARMS in and the second flies in with the CBUs to destroy as much as possible while the radars are off. Without the SEAD work you’d be shredded before coming anywhere close enough for the CBUs. BUT the AI isn’t necessarily smart enough to execute that sort of cooperative attack so it only reasonably works with two human pilots.
As mentioned in another comment, it’s quite common to save your own loadouts for each type of mission so you can quickly change to what best works for your situation. I even go so far as to save loadouts for other planes so that, for example, when I frag an F-18 HAVCAP it’s easy to change the default loadout and maximize the number of AIM-120s for the flight.

Yes, definately adjust

I would use JSOWs on any type of vehicle column. And so you have a good standoff range even against IR SAMs.
You just need to have a good spacial awarenes which direction (azimuth) you have to set.
Set EGEA in the CTNL page to 1500ft (the altitude were the cluster bomb opens), with this I have the best results.
You may want to revisit Trainung Mission 15 in the sim and the Training Manual in the Docs folder.Oh, and pray they dont start moving…
