Editing campaign mission flight path
-
Hi all
Just wondering if you guys edit the default campaign mission flight path routes in order to avoid SAMs, AAA, etc?
I ask as one recent mission had me flight in the path of some SA2s SA3 and some AAA. Can I change the route in order to avoid these threats, as long as I keep the TOS times as close as possible?
Thanks

I have rarely ever flown the flightpath the ATO created. Always modificated or better to say recreated it to my planning. To keep track of TOS is if your flight is part of a package and you have to coodinate. Doesn’t make much sense to change the flightplan of an OCA that has a SWEEP or CAP with it to arrive earlier than the rest of the package.

If I know my flight path will fly over or near an area that has some SA-15s then YES I will change the path. In SEAD missions I often let my 2 have HARMs for the FCRs and I tend to use GBU-39 for known GPS targets or GBU-54 w. TGP for unknown AAA hunting.
But those SA-15s often only apear for a short while on the RWR so whenever I ger the chance to target them I will often value them higher than my TGT. They have had me hitting the silk far to many times now even with high G dives and defensive moves. -
@TS_riders Is it a specific Theater you ar takling about regarding SA15?

@CaptCanada Hi, Cap. I’m with Oak. I almost always change the path and/or times. The AI and campaign engine does a great job, in my opinion, but you can always polish things a bit

@Killroy
Yup. I haven’t seen the 15’s on many of the other theaters but here on Korea, Iron Fortress they do often pop up. -

It depends…When you have a simple one-flight mission like BARCAP, you can change it extremely without having to watch other flights.
The steerpoints timing will be flexible around the Take Off and TOT waypoints. You can even lock/unlock waypoint times. Though, if you stretch it too far, you will get too fast or too low speeds you can never achieve when flying.But if you are a SEAD Escort or your Strike flight has Escorts / SEAD flights with you, changing the flightpath too much will take those advantages from you- ending up against MiGs without your Escort or against before unseen SAMs without your SEAD flight.
Though, you can try it, but also go into the ATO to change the waypoints of the related flights, too.If you really want to edit such things yourself, get familiar with planning your own multi-flight packages. Memorize some noticeable points on the map and draw the steerpoints with every flight added. Let the one stable waypoint time be the Time On Target.
