Windows 10

All great on Windows 10 so far, no driver or hardware problems, BMS runs smoothly and so are all my connected devices

I’m going to wait and see what Gyro suggests before doing anything…

Well, I think I can suggest waiting a little bit until they release a few fixes. It looks a little rushed out imho.
Upgrade went ok for the most part but (and your experience may vary) I’m noticing glitches all over ( Samsung Magician not working, PC woke up unable to throttle past 1.3 Ghz ( i7 3770 ), Intel Storage technology GUI using 40% of the CPU resources, and damn MS Edge setting itself as default browser all the time with Firefox complaining every time i start it ) .
Oh and be sure you “tweak” all those nifty “privacy settings” where you authorize Windows 10 to leak your privacy data all over (all this on Win 10 Pro on top of that, where one wouldn’t be asking a OS to improve his social experience

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/07/windows-10-shares-your-wi-fi-with-contacts/Yes , it has privacy related settings and gotchas buried everywhere (including Cortana listening in) this one is using CAT-5 so no WiFi to worry about

My connected devices are Canon Multifunction Printer, external 3.5 floppy drive, 5 external harddrives, USB faxmodem, 2 webcams, Microphone

I have to jump in here and voice a few big concerns over the new OS.
First, I am in the process of upgrading my computer in the next few months. I am an AMD guy. AMD mobo and gfx combinations have worked very well with little to no issues. The fx 98 series 8 cores are super fast (5 ghz + is no problem for this cpu). And the new R9 Fury looks astounding. I am moving to a water cooled case system as well.
That being said, Windows 10 has many problems with AMD hardware. Also there is Firefox issues which I use exclusively. I like the customizations you can do with Firefox and I do not want to abandon it for Edge. Music streaming issues have also been found. Security issues are major! Everything from Wi Fi sharing and pop up adds that you can’t stop, to printer and 3rd party devices that will not work, or simply crashing your computer altogether. Lots of issues need to be sorted out before I upgrade my OS.
With that being said, 10 has done something truly awesome! DX 12 and true multi thread processing. In other words, you can use an AMD and Nvidia card together and have them multi task. Also, the multi thread processing utilizes data processing that is separate from gpu processing. This means that the cpu no longer handles gfx computations. Furthermore, the cpu overhead is greatly increased! Now, the more cores you have, the more overhead your CPUs have when processing game files. This spells out a big jump in performance for FBMS as we all know as Falcon is a very cpu intensive game.
Too many issues now for 10 imo, but if updates and changes are part of its evolution, then 10 would be the way to go in the future.

Win7 all the way until support (in the form of security patches) expires. I’m using Linux for nearly all my productivity stuff, windows has only been a “games launcher” for me for the last couple of decades (granted it’s getting better and better at… launching games, so that’s ok ;))
Cheers,
Uwe

Right now I am having a problem getting past the mission launch splash screen. You get the status bars to load all the way, then you hear the engine running and your external gauges are working, but the splash screen won’t change. Sometimes you get a message saying the display driver has crashed or stopped working.
Here is what I found out. Running in full screen fixes the problem. Running in windowed mode it will crash, if you have other screens extracted like the mfds, etc. You can run in windowed mode without any other screens.
I have used the mfd extraction utility with little help. I can extract all gauges, except my mfds. I get no information on my mfds.
I have undated all my drivers, no help. I have run as an admin, no help.
I guess that I will use BMS on windows 7. Glad that I have a dual operating system on my computer, just for these problems.
EDIT I also had the mfd extraction utility not displaying the mfd information on windows 7 too. So, it my not just be a problem with windows 10.
I also have an AMD card, so I think that windows 10 doesn’t play well with AMD right now. -

10 has issues with windowed mode, from display extractions, to music. Do some reading as I have. Microsux has a lot of work to do to get this OS up to par imo. -
Have downloaded the iso and am awaiting my new SSD - will then duel boot between 7 & a fresh install of 10 to make sure it all works.

Jhook,
Thanks for the reply. Glad to at least know that my computer isn’t the only one having the problem. I am glad that I have also windows 7 on my computer.

I just noticed if you go to Start menu > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery tab. You have the option to roll back to Windows 8.1, but you only have 30 days to do so. So it sounds like you have to shake down your system quickly and decide if you want to keep Windows 10.
EDIT. I want to enforce that I think that Windows 10 will be the OS to go with in the future. I just don’t think that it is ready for prime time.

Run some fraps and let us know what gains you get. Should see a nice fps increase.

Your welcome! I have been reading up on 10. Seems to me that these issues (many of them) need to be addressed first but you should notice an improvement in fps. Run some tests and let us know.

i have installed it now on the old computer. I don’t know how it would behave on a clean install of win 7 and with all the updates, but it works pretty well so far.
I like the design and the startmenu, even if the borders feel a bit too fat (so much borders, but no space for the window content ;D). i guess there might be some options, i didn’t look into personalizations yet, but it’s also not this heavy.
I like the taskmanager (one of the few good things of win8)!
Edge is okay, but opera 12 will stay as my favorite (also if gettin old).
will I install it on mine? not sure yet.

This too, though some people may choose to leave it on and that’s okay:
