    Getting AI wingemen to drop bombs when told to do so?

      Hello.

      I am wondering if there is any specific procedure to make the wingemen drop/attack a specific point in the ground. I have been trying, for example, to get them to drop bombs at the Kotar range by targeting with my radar the range and giving them the order to atack my target. But the only response I get is “Negative”. Anyone has any suggestions?

        I mean in general.

        In this specific case it’s because KOTAR is friendly. Either change it red or find a red target.

          Duh! Of course! Yeah, I painted the area around KOTAR all red, and now the wingmen are dropping their bombs…

          Is there any way to force them to drop ALL their bombs in one pass?

            Yes and no. It depends on the type of weapon. GBU-31? No chance. MK-82? Yes.

            Different classes of weapons have different AI deliveries. All the dumb bombs are 16,000’ in pairs. All PGMs (freefall) are singles. LGBs are 20,000’ or so. JDAM are considered dumb bombs for AI. What is your ripple count at the moment of release by AI?

              I might be wrong here but I think the AI drops his bombs using the same ripple settings as the lead human? if you let all 6 or even 12 107’s go in one pass so will the AI’s the difference is you will be lined up going straight down the centre line of the runway - he wont !!!

              Could be wrong - wont be the first or last time ;0)

                  I think they will when you order trail formation, just before you order attack my target, This is what I do when using dumb bombs attacking airbases or landing strips.

                    The AI will not use the same settings ripple or burst altitude for cbu’s and I have found if I give them weapons hold the chances of them being receptive to further attack commands is far less likely going to happen when I want them to attack air to air. I am having a lot of problems with the AI launching Harms and going in for a guns attack on an enemy fighter less than 10 miles though they have missiles available and then getting downed by heaters.

                          Yeah, the clue for that was the ‘Negative’ reply by AI. If you direct to drop on friendlies, this is a standard response to that request.

                          “Unable” is usually something else …… out of weapons, out fuel, etc.

                              Reading “AI are teh useless send back to base lulz” makes my teeth clench. I know too many players who dismiss AI because they haven’t done the work to learn and practice with them. It is the same feeling when someone misses with a Maverick and instead of wondering what they did wrong “it must be bugged.” You know, contempt.

                              A joke is fine but repeated often enough by skilled and respected people it is dangerous.

                              As far as I know no AI behavior depends on random number generation so all AI behavior is predictable. The difference is not predictable vs. not predictable, it is instead how much do we know about the conditions the AI is in and the decision logic it is programmed with. My work continues on a “leadership manual” which contains the answer to questions like:

                              1. How much time after ramp start is AI landing light on?
                              2. What distance is critical for IP to target to allow first pass weapon release?
                              3. What is AI final approach speed 5nm from threshold?

                              These questions have definite answers and if me or you do not know them I think that is our problem and not AI’s.

                                  Ah, point taken, you got me there, you and Dee-Jay.

                                  Well, to answer the question from my point of view, the most important element to having the AI drop mud munitions where you want them to is assigning the AI to specific targets in the flight plan way point in the UI Brief IMHO. Assigning them ground targets in the air “on the fly” is problematic and hit and miss.
