F-14D Cockpit
-
A quick question to see if somebody can give me a hand.
I am experimenting exporting the cockpit buttons .dat file with 3ds using the Export utility in the 3dsMax exporter. This should give me the x,y,z values of the hotspots of the buttons. Since I would like to implement first the MFDs to make Molni happy I started with the left one.
The problem I am having is that the values given by the exporter are non-sense, and no where near the ones on the F-16 cockpit. See below:

Anyone knows what I´m doing wrong?

Are you using feet for the system units in max?
Regards
Dave -
Yes, first thing I checked.
I also reset the pivot points to the centre of the buttons (they where offset before) is that where the coordinates are taken, I guess .
Hmm…
-
No it doesn’t.
What I always do is add the F4 Cockpit modifier to a dummy helper and align that to where I want the hotspot.
Regards
Dave -
Using the dummy helper indeed changed the values but still no luck.
If the helper is at (system units cm/file units metres):
X= 0,013m / Y=-0,237 / Z=0,1m
The exporter creates -23,67001 1,275872 -10,164115 which would be fine if the .dat file was in cm. but seems a massive value compared to Nanards values. I tried to change this manually to mm. and nothing…
Whatever units I change in Max the coordinates are always the same so the exporter seems to be consistent measuring and exporting in centimeters.
A bit late…going to bed now!
G’night!

Are the system units in feet? You first replied that they are but now say they are in cm.
Changing the display unit will have no effect. That is just the way Max displays measurements to you.
The system unit is the important one. The cockpit dat exporter does not convert i.e. if you have system units set to cm then that means there are 1 internal Max unit per cm. The exporter exports the coordinates for the cockpit hotspots based on the Max unit.
It can be a pain to change the system unit, you will have to rescale things. Best if you wait and I will edit the exporter to convert the units.

I know my bad…I said yes meaning that I had checked them and everything was consistent ( ie. metric), couldn’t imagine that I actually need imperial!
Falcon modding is a world full of wonderful surprises!
Thanks again Dave… Will wait patiently again!

Hi Pepe, looks like your numbers are off by 1 decimal place, perhaps if you divided your values by 10 eg:
SimCBEOSB_1L -2.937226 0.5197480 3.8999111 20 129 1
It might work. Also, I see you’re using , instead of . for your decimal place which might affect your values.

Good news!!! Came back from the doctor today and no need to have a second surgery YET. The infection seems to be healing with the antibiotics…he wants to check it again in a week.:D
Benchie, already tried that! But thanks! Dave has given me a few more tips I still have to try.
