Can you use a warthog on a cougar base? Just asking if anyone has tried this before thanks in advance.

Yes - you can use a Warthog grip on a Cougar base, but you lose the CMS->down function, which I find very useful as a shift key.

The Warthog grip is a vast improvement over the Cougar one, IMO…

Yes - same result; no input for CMS->down.

I haven’t tried it with TARGET - I gave up on TARGET. I find going default and using the sim interface not only easier to deal with, but also reduces CPU taxing.

Agreed with the sim interface. And for those who want to apply shifted commands, you can do that by editing your key file. It’s not hard, but you should know what you are dong first. Make sure you back it up.

I use Cougar stick in a fixed warthog base. It works perfect and with Target too.

I know I can assign shift functions in the keyfile, but there are situations where I like to toggle HOTAS function based on a modifier, as situation requires - particularly for desk flying. Normally I’d do this with the pinky switch, but that complicats radar operation if I’m in TWS. I use CMS->dwn on the Warthog stick to toggle my Trim hat between POV and TRIM in FAF - double down invokes TRIM, down for > 2 sec cancels TRIM and returns to POV. I also use it to command ejection when desk flying, on my Macs - CMS->dwn/pinky for greater than 2 sec commands ejection…“squeeze stick” to eject. Very handy.

I may not find this as handy once I get my pit built, but for now it’s it a favored setup.

I have the WH stick on my Cougar FSSB base because it is better than stock for the F-16 (don’t miss the CMS down) and my Cougar stick on my Warthog with extension for WWII flying. If I can eventually get an F-18 stick for the Warthog, I’d be very happy.:D

I’m giving serious thought to getting hold of one of these, using it to do an F/A-18 grip (swap positions of the TRIM and castle) and using the guts of my Cougar grip to do the electronics…I already have a spec trigger and TRIM switch.

Tonight, my TH Warthog stick broke right off at the soft metal connector base. After 5 years of no issues with my Cougar stick on my FSSB, my WH stick snaps right off after two months. Back to my old trusty Cougar stick. Perhaps it is repairable. Got an email in to TM.

More like faulty cracked soft metal. I have the part out and the metal cracked and broke off like hard cheese. I hope I can get a replacement. I’ve had issues with this WH stick. My board also died after a couple of months. Must have been made on a Friday afternoon.

Bad news. Thrustmaster won’t sell me the cheap white metal part that snapped. The stick broke right off at the base and I have to buy a whole new one……out of warranty. Nice.

Beware for those who use FSSB and Warthog stick.
I have been much more aggressive with my Cougar stick for 8 years and no problem yet.
It didn’t take much pressure at all to break it off. The part must have been a faulty, but its going to cost me $300 for a new stick because of a faulty $3 part.

Might be worth checking on viperpits if anyone has made a replacement for that part. If it’s the base of the shaft I know there are drop-in angled replacements designed to fit in F-16 cockpits; maybe someone there can suggest something before you shell out your winnings to Thrustmaster.

That may be repairable depending on how must clearance there is on the stick. Failing that you may be able to machine a replacement. Either way you need to find a local engineering workshop and ask. The worst they can say is NO and if it costs less than a new stick it’ll be worth it.

This is a link to the adaptor piece the Darkman was suggesting. Only for the Cougar so I don’t know if it will work with a Hog stick but again worth asking.
