JSOWs are great weapon. However, the procedure to get 4 individually targeted weapons onto their separate targets is a pretty cumbersome task. I need first select waypoint, click mfd to get to the control page, input settings (especially the attack azumith), click enter, pickle then select another waypoint and repeat the whole procedure again. Is there an easier or quick way to do this? Also, in RL, can’t a pilot program each weapon ahead of time then once in range, set target and pickle all of them at once?

IRL it use the INC-DEC procedure. Just set the bomb setting at ramp, when attacking target set the first tgt, pickle, increase, pickle, increase, pickle…

Don’t. They are pairs. You don’t have 4 JSOWs you have 2 JSOW pairs.

It’s a shame you don’t get the 4 profiles of JDAMs. In the training TE changing the azimuth is the most fiddly bit. If you had to change more settings it would be even worse. I know the manual says that 4 weapons is a common load but I’d be very tempted to just bring two if I had radically different release requirements and a threatening environment. Doing your taxes in MiG alley is not a healthy plan.

I believe he means incrementing the steerpoint between weapon pickles. I’m not an expert, but in my understanding one way to do what you want is:

              • before the mission starts, use Recon and assign different steerpoints to however many targets you want to hit. Say Flight Plan is #1 - #7, with Target at #5. I keep #5 as a general area, but use Recon and set say SP #10 to Building 1 and SP #11 to Building 2 (or whatever the targets are).
              • in cockpit, set the spacing in a CCRP profile for the bombs to 999ft and ripple to say 2.
              • as you get close to target, set Steerpoint to #10. Set AG mode to CCRP.
              • when release cue is near, hold Pickle, and get a finger ready to Increment the Steerpoint. When you hear first bomb release, Increment to #11, and when the second bomb comes off, it’ll be programmed to hit that second target.

Basically the 999ft gives you time to switch Steerpoints between release, and whatever SP is selected when the bomb releases is what it goes after. This only works when the targets you want to hit are relatively close to each other, such as different buildings at an airfield or something.

I apologize if this isn’t what you’re talking about at all!

I believe thats the same procedure, except that you describe doing it with a single pickle. Amraam is recommending doing it with a pickle per bomb. Hence pickle, increase STPT, pickle again, increase STPT, etc…

Here is a video from Burner demonstrating the INC-DEC procedure:

                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW-yOt8qqho&list=PLY81Nc1vfFNmI7oDcqeJM5rCjWotCWUpw&i ndex=4

Tried it personally and it works in 4.32, still to experiment with it in 4.33 though.

Since we are talking about JSOW the 999’ foot method is completely not usable. I don’t even know if it’s valid or smart for JDAMs in 4.33. Of course sequential steerpoints are a smart way to step the SPI location through DMPIs quickly and easily. The original question is highlighted strongly if we try to release JSOW at two distinct targets with different pilot options:

                      Release 1
                      Steerpoint 15
                      Quantity: Two, tandem
                      Spacing: 1200’
                      Attack Azimuth: 360
                      EGEA: 1,250’
                      ROB: 9.0nm

                      Release 2
                      Steerpoint 16
                      Quantity: Two, side-by-Side
                      Spacing: 500’
                      Attack Azimuth: 045
                      EGEA: 900’
                      ROB: 4.0nm

There is no profile system for JSOW and 5 values must be changed on SMS page by hand between release 1 and release 2 besides the normal change in target position. It is a lot of work, time, and chance for error.
