Yes you are.
All shadows and depth like e.g. the trees is painted on the tile, and while the tiles are definitely better-looking than the stock one, it’s all still flat when you go low.
Imho not the right way to go.While I agree that real 3D objects are the cake just like editable skies IMO the correct terrain tiles are the base for any following mod and here Fighting Falcon does an extremely extraordinary job IMHO.
Even with forest and bushes and more townships you need underlaying tex and these are top notch.:oCheerio
Great job, my friend! Like with FF only better…

Fighting Falcon, I used to make photoscenery for FSX, using tile proxy and FStiles. Is the process similar? My favourite area to fly in FSX was the Dolomiti Alps , using photoreal scenery, do you know Frank Dianese’s work? If you can make textures using these images as base, the result will be spectactular……
Seriously, those last 3 shots you posted are simply amazing…I would not even care if the ground campaign did not work, just to be able to dogfight, navigate, refuel etc over scenery like that would be fantastic!!..But to hear that there are no troop movement issues etc is great news. I am serious about the offer of help, if you need extra hands to help with anything, I would love to chip in, getting this type of scenery into Falcon is my number one wish fr the improvement of the sim, now we have the excellent new graphics engine…
Cheers, Mark

Hey Sphynx, I thought it was not that easy…! BUT…show me any other falcon terrain mod where it looks good at low level…even in FSX, with 5m terrain mesh and fantastic 30cm resolution photoscenery or using the autogen, it still looks bad when you go low.
I appreciate it is difficult to appraise from a photo, however, the fact that one guys has managed to get a whole theater the size of the Balkans done surely says something about the possibilities…and this is only the beta. i think its great work and we should be massively excited about it…which I am!
Fighting Falcon, I presume if the beta release is near, that there are no major issues with objectives and ground troop movements etc? Let me know if you need any beta testers!!!
Cheers, Mark
Hey Mark,
I do think that this absolutely a good improvement. But it doesn’t fix the issue F4 is lacking for ages: a crappy terrain engine. 250m Terrain is simply completely outdated.
@Tom I’m not even sure if you’d need tiles at all. I could also imaging a lomac style, with several layers.
That might even be easier than having VFR tiles for a whole theater.Lomac:
Anyway - I’d rather not paint those mountain shadows on the tile for a simple reason: Sun moves.

This post is deleted! -
Deleted since unnecessary…
Cheers gents

Awesome rivers Falcon!
-
PS: The last shot is definately not LOMAC.
Whooopsie… you are right.
Can’t help, bust some 4-10 modded IL-2 theatres still look better than all the above.
Can’t help, but any of them looks better than F4.

No doubt that FSX has potential for very impressive virtual landscapes. It is a result of nearly 2 decade work of team of MSFS team of paid professionals who had the opportunity to improve and modify this engine no less than 12! times having all of to pay for it nearly every time again and again .

12 Flight Simulator XDuring all of those FS iteration most of the development resources were committed to graphics. AI, UI and sounds were not advancing at the same paste as the graphics. And yet this final result is not something, which really came close to resemble a reality. Apparently from some valid reasons they decided that with current graphic and computing technology it is not feasible to advance it any further (and make a buck!)- so they closed the show!
I think that drawing parrarrel comparison between FSX and Falcon is not effective or of practical use. Sure we would perhaps love to have same here, but it is not the same league.Over 50 different textures all with ability to have autogen, real time textures blending and transitioning, vector graphics in respect to water and roads, etc., etc. All is much more advanced than older original Falcon terrain concept with nothing, but few flat prerendered generic and transition textures and few sparse 3D objects in database. Bottom line of end point of my “tyrrade” here, that with very small exceptions, we cannot generally match FS terrain standards in Falcon.
DSC’s EDGE (not shown) terrain system on the other hand is reportedly simpler but rather even more impressive than FSX. Perhaps it is there is where some of our attention should be directed and inspiration and experience drawn from. If information is available, that is……
