WIP: JA37 Viggen
-
As I sat in the military archives and photographed the 170 pages of flight performance data (which had finally been declassified a month after my initial request) I felt relieved that I wasn’t the one who had to do the task of putting all those numbers into BMS!
To everyone involved in the project I say keep up the good work.
It’s not a question of ‘only’ putting those numbers into BMS, it’s also a matter of translating them the right way. It’s fantastic that Topolo is willing to do that. And it fits the BMS approach perfectly: only tweak data if you have real data. Thanks for providing a solid base for the FM!
-
In fact, fuel capacities are not defined ONLY in the fm (.dat) file, but also in other area of the data base
I’ll take care of the (.dat) -
Ok, i found were to set the fuel to fix both munition screen and the fuel gauge
Cheers

And some good news. Besides the fact that Topolo is working on the FM, we have a former JA-37 pilot (who flew from 1997 to 2004 on the Viggen) who is willing to test the FM to see how it behaves in relation to the real thing.
Which makes me VERY happy to say the least!
-
Good news!
I love this station-wagon fighter!:D -
Currently on the todo list for the JA37:
- get the ‘wings from the cockpit-sight’ ingame to add immersion
- tweaking the FM to make it as real as possible
- hope and pray it will be in the next BMS release!
Bad and good news btw, the former JA37 pilot couldn’t fit it into his time scheme. The good news: an even more experience college of him will do the job! Me very happy!

Great news buddy!!!
Cheers
-
cool!!

A little update: due to real life obligations, Topolo hasn’t had time yet to start with tweaking the FM. But it’s on top of his priority list.
-
And a WIP picture from another thread:
-
I started the FM rework based on the available documentation (that is more than enough, thanks ! )
Target is to provide a first draft (valid for clean A/C only at MIL power and Max A/B, T/O and Landing not tuned) in 3 or 4 weeks from now (BMS weeks, not IL-2 weeks)
At the moment, the only problem I saw with current BMS data is related to Drag Index of External Tank, it should be equal the the one of 2xAIM-9+2xSkyflash, so around 40, but as I said, I will not take into account loaddout in my first draft, So this is not a rela problem for the moment. -
And some more good news: there probably will be a new dedicated 3D cockpit! Qawa is back in town :headb:
-
Snail,
I haven’t forgotten your request. I’ve just been busy. I’ll get to it soon.
-
Here are some figures describing current state of my work (FM definition for a clean A/C only, no take-off/landing configuration, no fuel-flow)
-
Good to see progress! Looking forward to the first beta FM ingame!
-
^+1
Very nice!! How you manage to interpret those charts into something useful in the sim is beyond me, great job m8!!Cheers
-
Cant wait for this! Looks absolutely awesome and then some…
-
I am truly amazed by the time spent, the good initiative and the knowledge of you people. This is gonna be Awesome. How is the cockpit made? (Totally new to it so I know stupid question but… )
Also, is there no way you could use information about flight stuff from models of the viggen in FSX etc? Is it really needes to invent the wheel? Again perhaps a stupid question…
In any case. Looking forward to thisone :).
-
Unlike in FSX, the flight model in BMS will be based on real data, that’s why the ‘wheel is reinvented’
-
Looking good! Keep up the good work!
