Should I have to install Microprose Falcon 4 CD to install and run BMS ?
-
@Atlas Thanks, I already have the Art of the Kill video and PDF. I haven’t had to reinstall Falcon 4 so I haven’t made the jump to a digital copy yet. And honestly when I do upgrade my PC I will probably keep the SSD I run BMS on and use it for just BMS and other gaming, and get another SSD for everything else. If I do that I won’t need to reinstall but I haven’t made up my mind on that yet. I guess I will see what the budget is at that time and make the decision based on that.

At £6.99 full price, I don’t think it’s going to break any sort of budget!

@Atlas LOL! No, I was talking about the SSD. $6.99 will not break the bank. If fact Falcon4 would be considered mandatory spending.

@Atlas ok, I will try it when the time is come

Just wanted to pass along something I just ran across with installing the F4 disc on Windows 11 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3296).
Long story short, did a brand new from scratch install of Win 11 23H2 with no issues. When I ran the Setup.exe nothing would happen. System remained running - no crashes or lockups - but the old installer would not load. I never had this problem in previous Win 11 (22 or 21) versions. I did get a workaround by booting into Win 11 Safe Mode and was able to install it without problems. Hoping this may help others if having a similar issue.
On a side note, the 23H2 seems to be very sluggish on my computer compared to the other versions as well. Seems there must be a lot more going on behind the scenes with Micr$oft’s new version. So far, I’m not a fan.

Nothing against you and if you can install from the F4 disc, then bravo! However, for the cost of a digital version, I get the convenience of it being digital, no need for a CD drive, and no need to worry about the physical media being damaged. I have 2 CDs for F4.0 for, um… “collection” purposes, neither of which have been installed from. -
Ah! I guess I left out the interesting bits…
While I do have the original Microprose binder and disk, I’ve since just copied the disc installation files/folders to a storage HDD and run it off my hard-drive. Its been foolproof until yesterday.
However, I think I may know the root cause of my trouble. Seems during the Win11 installation that the Windows Security Core Isolation > Memory Integrity got enabled. I think the OS install may have been jacked-up so I’m running through another new/clean install to see if it improves or not.

Still need to install some sort of ROM software? Or does the native Windows one work?
Either way, interesting solution and one I used ages ago… -
Nothing else has been needed until yesterday. Will run right off the harddrive with no extra applications needed. The 32-bit Setup.exe file would run fine as long as you ran it as an admin.

Well, not the outcome I was expecting. I was able to install Win11 23H2 with success. Unfortunately, my good (very old) ASUS ROG laptop fried something during a routine Windows update. Smells like a power supply from experience. Oh well, time to upgrade to a desktop!!!
