What to do about Patriots?
-
Hey guys, I am at a loss as to how to deal with Egytian Patriots without sophisticated ARMs.
In my campaign, day 1, there is a patriot somewhere just east of Ismailia, effectively covering the entire North western quadrant.
Since it wasn’t recced yet, I can’t frag a mission either. I would do so with F18 Hornets, because they can acrry HARMs.Any help would be appreciated.
Never mind, I believe the Delilah is good.
-
Heh Kansas, looks like we’re facing the same “challenge” ATM
Employing the Delilah is rather involved though, it comes with about 10 pages of instructions in the ITO training manual, you might want to give that a read first unless you enjoy wondering wy your Delilahs circle around the target area endlessly after reaching their steerpoints… looks rather silly in TacView
All the best, Uwe
-
also, when it’s on the move, like the one I’m trying to take out, it’s even more difficult
-
Delilahs. Think they’re more sophisticated than the HARMs available, at least considering the affiliated systems of the Hornets. Do proper planning before you take off, it’s a very small chance that they start moving after you’re in the pit.
-
I have a saved Campaign which I would like to Continue and the Patriot threatening the entire Sinai Peninsula is in fact on the move while I fly. I guess I’ll just redirect my efforts somewhere else and see if it settles some place. Mind you, my options are very limited because the engagement zone is obscene. Because there is no missile launch warning either, I’m not taking any chances. I’ll just dispatch some hard points along the FLOT or hunt for columns along the eastern part of the coastal road.

Delilah… Only choice to deal with Patriots. The problem is to have a proper fix on the position of the site in order to have a weapon TGT steer point directly on the radar.
If the patriot battery moves you are in trouble. Your weapon will hit only but sand…
If no obvious position of the site is availiable in the map, then you have to make a flight in the vicinity of the suspected area in order to provoke reaction from the egyptian air defenses. If they fire against you chances are they will show up in the map during next mission planing. Dont get too close though. Patriot is deadly same as S-300.
Another interesting idea is to assign a flight of 2 AH-64A/D Apache attack helos to aim directly the patriot radar. Not tried this one yet but it might work…
Don’t try to enter heavily defended areas before clearing the path from Patriot and S-300 radars. You are a sitting duck the moment you pop up from low attitude to execute a bomb run…
First take your time to eliminate those Air Deffence systems from long ranges…One at a time… When you have them out of the picture then go ahead and take out other infrastructure targets. -
Sorry to raise a dead thread, but I actually did have some minor contribution.
You can actually swamp a Patriot with a 4 ship low level and force it to run out of munitions.
We managed to do it with 2, but eventually a nearby CAP came and got my wingman, but i beleive we got the radar as a 2 ship low level formation.

My Patriot kill with Delilah, some long time ago:
Steps:
1. At a large distance (i.e ~60NM) find the “P” in the HAD and lock it
2. Use your FCR in GM or GMT mode (easier if they are on the move) to get the SPI to the circle mark of the HAD on the HUD, the circle isn’t exactly where the radar is, but that’s on purpose, more realistic that way
3. Launch the Delilah
4. Get to the area with the Delilah, if you are lucky like I was then you will spot the long trails as the missiles are launched by the battery, otherwise try to go around, even a couple of times to find it. -
Nice tactic I-Hawk, unfortunately the youtube like is broken - it’s taking me to my own ‘my videos’ page on youtube.

Yea sorry, I saw it from my own page and thought it’s the vid’s link, corrected now.

That’s a great hit! It’s always nail-biting trying to determine which unit is the radar when the weapon is in close.
I’ve had mixed success, nothing as good as this SA10 battalion all grouped up in the Balkans  :

Looks like they had their annual convention gathering… Nice target opportunity!!

That Delilah looks a mean bit of kit! MIL weapons are something I’ve not messed with in BMS at all yet. I only fly the Viper (it’s a Viper sim after all :D) so I rarely get the opportunity to use them.
I might make a naval strike TE and use some AGM84s.

IAF Dual seat F-16s use the Delilah in ITO.

It’s always good to know this in advance Thanks a lot, uri-ba, for having pointed it out.
With best regards,

I’ve had luck using the HAD to get a rough target position then make a markpoint, slew TGP and use SDBs to take out the radar and launchers. That is this all requires the patriot to NOT shoot at you at max range so you can get within apprx 30 NM
