Dick's Bug

The diversion is at the stage of me collecting and creating the stencils for that AC. Other than that I’m still creating the panels of the overall AC…
-
Almost done with the panels including rivets and 3D stuff. I’ll release the PSDs as a template for future F/A-18 E/Fs as the upgrade project 18 doesn’t include the newer models so it should last well into the next versions.
-
Thank you very much for your hard work and your foresight in creating templates.
-
Amazing Footage with VFA-102 (Caution music needs serious re-editing)… Hope to see Diamondbacks red skin soon in BMS…
-
Dammit Taco stop getting your fingerprints all over my canopy!
-
After the PSDs for the standard NAVY 18F are done I’ll start to rebuild this…
-
Lucky the Aussies I found a PSD which hadn’t been deleted in my HD meltdown and resbuilt the tails completely based on those panels…
More parts of the bug coming soon…
-
Someone know what .dds number tanks the 18D/F use? Need the drop tank to finish this bug…
-
WIP of the B/D/F Hornet/SuperHornet…
Wings, Vertical Stabs, Fuselage Front, Engine Intakes and Pods have panel lines and base color as well as some initial stencils from VFA-22. No weathering yet.
Complete bird following tomorrow…
-
Still figuring out the texmap and how the texture wraps…
-
Done with the panels on the F/A-18D.
Screens tomorrow, that will be the basis for the PSD templates I’ll release. The SuperHornet will be a different Set as it is a different model. It is very hard to find quality visual reference material on the D so the F will be much more detailed and closer to the real thing…
Stay with me…:D

horizontal stabs are switched upside down (bright side up) and gear and some of the wingtips is still Red1’s work other than that it’s the final template 18…
-
Good job! Very very nice result!!! Congrats!!!
-
Thanks man, glad you like what you see!
3D elements, Sensor Details and some warning stencils are missing on the front fuselage and the vertical stabs. Gear, Air Brakes and Canopy still need some work and then I’d say we got a nice template for all you crazies to unleash some serious skinage on I will embed a possibility to edit the BuNos and a collection of MODEX numbers and standard NAVY stencils for the PSDs…
I’ve also started on the SH wing area and stabilizers so it should be done soon as well.
-
Its been a while… Any updates on the Super Hornet??
-
Status is Panels, Camo, 3D, Sensors and Stencils are finished for the D - gear and air brakes still unchanged. All my skinning goes into the weathering of the F-14 which will eventually find its way to the 18 as well, by now I have a certain quality level I want all skins to exceed before I put them out and a clean skin with some stencils just doesn’t cut it anymore.
If any of you guys are ready to roll with a certain skin I’ll throw the PSDs together and release that for community skinning efforts - for the F/A-18D.
As for the F, it is basically a completely different aircraft - no one panel is equivalent to the D. Right now I have F tails which are halfway done and that’s it…

As you were kind enough to ask, I personally would love to see a VFA-106 Gladiator skin for the “D” model (USN or USMC, or both). 106th is the AIRLANT FRS/RAG squadron as well as home of the East Coast Demo team, and I have a personal affection for them as they were kind enough to let our squadron “borrow” one for our incentive flight(s) “back in the day”. Love your work Stingray, and thanks for all you do!
-
id probably still be in if i were offered an incentive flight.
-
Yea, I just realized my statement could be understood that way. What I actually meant was if any of YOU guys are looking to go ahead on skinning a certain Bug I’d provide the template :D. While we’re at it…
you talkin’ about sth like this?
Are any of these original Hornets actually still in active service or has Boeing taken over completely?
