Korea EM 1989 Update
-
This is a thread for updates to the 1989 Korea theater I released a little over a year ago (https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?24915-Mod-request-wish-Stock-KTO-in-1990-1995-timeframe&p=353910&viewfull=1#post353910).
Current Version: v2.57
This is intended for BMS 4.33 Update 3Note that this version is not backwards compatible with EM 1989 v1.2, so TEs etc. may have to be remade.
Download (v2.51/2.55/2.56 -> v2.57 Patch);
RAR - http://www.mediafire.com/file/n4192m50414euch/Add-On_Korea_EM1989_v2.57_Patch.rarDownload (Full v2.56 Install);
RAR - http://www.mediafire.com/file/srqt8osjnpgn55x/Add-On_Korea_EM1989_v2.56_Release.rar
7ZIP - http://www.mediafire.com/file/6ev91rqr197lcca/Add-On_Korea_EM1989_v2.56_Release.7zInstallation;
- Extract the downloaded file into the …\Data folder in your BMS install location. If you have a prior install of 1989 v2, overwrite when requested.
- Add Add-On Korea EM1989 v2\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\Korea EM1989 v2.tdf to the bottom of BMS\Data\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\theater.lst on a new line
- Theater should show up for selection in the Theater list in BMS (Remember to restart BMS after switching theater)
Changes (v1.2 -> v2.0);
-Rebuilt on U3 Database
-Addition of AIM-9N, AGM-65E, AGM-65F
-Removal of TGP from Blk 30/32 F-16
-Fixed catapult alignmentsChanges (v2.0 -> v2.3);
-Reworked simdata for the AGM-45 and AGM-78, meaning these should perform more realistically (ie. not like mini-HARMS). In general you will need to be closer to aligned with the target SAM, and accuracy will still be an issue. RUK and HAS seem to be the best choices for modes. AGM-78 no longer wishes to be the first man-made object in orbit. These changes are still experimental, and would very much like feedback on if this is too extreme or not.
-Reworked simdata for the AGM-123, since its numbers were basically that of the AGM-45??? Its now using the GBU32 simdata for aerodynamics, and a pair of AGM-45 engines for power. Overall feel is that it has a lot more ‘heft’ to its flight profile, which is what I was looking for.
-Adjusted IR Sensors for missile seekers, and some AAM/SAM simdata based on molnibalage’s suggestions. These are still work in progress and generally not quite as extreme as in his mod, but AIM-9Ms and AA-11s should be more readily avoidable with flares now.
-Added Onboard ECM to A-6E and A-7E, still looking for how to adjust the strength of it.
-Actually removed TGP from Blk30/32 F-16s this time. Also brought Blk30 CM dispensers into line with other F-16s for now.
-Small loadout tweaks.Changes (v2.3 -> v2.51);
-Additional tweaks to missile sensors performance
-Addition of PL-2B and PL-5B, adjust PLAAF aircraft to use these where appropriate
-Addition of Tornado GR1, and Tornado IDS (both versions)
-Addition of Skyflash 6000 ‘SuperTEMP’
-Added engine and intake textures to Tornado ADV skin
-F4 and some aircraft now have engine sounds in the pit
-Instant action now uses the F-16C-40, and appropriate weapons (AIM9M/P, AIM7M, AGM65D, AGM45, CBU87, GBU12).
-Fixed missile firing calls for new weapons
-Fixed AGM-123 Skipper handling
-Changes to campaigns. First one largely unchanged, second one has less US units in theater initially, these will trickle in over the first 2-12 days. Third one has the AV-8B unit converted to Marines, duplicate F-14 unit removed, Jaguar unit changed to Tornado GR1, USAF F-15 unit added to Fukuoka.Changes (v2.51 -> v2.55);
-Added JP233 to Tornado GR1
-Fixed A-4M external tanks
-Tweaks to AIM-54A/C seeker and aerodynamics
-Adjusted SA-2, SA-3, SA-5 performance (based on SAM Simulator data)
-Slight tweaks to 2d mode accuracy/range numbers for aircraft (reducing ranges to represent non-GPS/glide munitions)
-Slight adjustments to role scores for various aircraft
-Adjusted F-5A/E fuelflow, internal fuel, empty weight
-More sounds, tweaked sounds for some aircraft (lowered AV-8 volume slightly)
-Added HQ-7 (found in Chinese HQs)
-Added HQ-2A with Gin Sling B
-Added BTR-60 SA-7 team, added YW-531 HN-5A team
-First pass on reworking ground units, expect more AAA and MANPADs, less SA-8/9/13 for the DPRK, also most ZSU-23-4 replaced with ZSU-23 or ZSU-57
-Added SA-7/14/16 (where appropriate) to red SAM units
-Upgraded SAM/ATGMs in Soviet units where appropriate
-Review of all aircraft cannons, fixed fire rate/ammo where necessary, added Gsh-6-23
-Tweaks of AA10/AA11 performance
-Tweaks to SM1/2 MR/ER performance
-Updated campaigns for new ground units
-Added M163 PIVADS, added to some US ground units
-Added MIM-72G, AIM-9 with Stinger seeker head for Chapparal
-Tweaks to various AAMs
-Switched GBU-15 to IR seeker, renamed GBU-15(v)22
-Added GBU-15(v)32, variant using BLU-109. Currently using (v)22 (Mk84) modelChanges (v2.55 -> v2.56);
-Fixed Tornado GR1 hardpoints
-Reverted AA-10A/C aero changes
-Partially reverted AA-10B/D aero changes
-Partially reverted SA-2 loft change
-Fixed some DPRK SAM sites having SA-14 instead of SA-7Changes (v2.56 -> v2.57);
-Restored Block 40/42 F-16 cockpits
-Adjusted OV-10A/D loadouts
-Minor fixesThe theater is intended to be mid-late 1989, and I’ve tried to restrict airframes and weapons to match that. If you do see anything that seems out place in that era, I apologize for the oversight or error.
A few notes;
1. This was designed for personal use, and while I tried to clean up the files and make sure there are no old saves or anything laying around, I apologize if I missed something.
2. The loading screens and menu are all stock stuff, I have no idea how to change those.
3. TEs and Campaign should work fine - no promises about instant action or dogfights, as I have no idea how those interact with the allowed plane lists.
4. The install should be self contained - to delete, simply delete the Add-On Korea EM1989 folder from BMS\Data, and remove the new line from the theater.lst file.Credits;
-BMS Team for their incredible work, none of this would of possible without it
-dema for allowing me to use his Tornado weapon rack fixes
-molnibalage for sharing his work on sensors and weapons
-Everyone else who has helped with development by sharing their ideas or helping find issuesAnyone who downloads it, feel free to adjust, redistribute or do what you will with it. I take no responsibility for anything that goes wrong.
If you have any feedback or suggestions on the theater, I would appreciate hearing them!

Hi Elouda, thanks for the great work on the theater.
The carrier catapults are not properly aligned in 1989EM v1.0. You can still catch it, but it is in the middle of the two catapults. Was this fixed in your last update? If not, does anyone know how to fix this?
Also, you mention that campaigns should work fine with the update. We made some changes to squadrons and supply levels to a 1989 Iron Fortress campaign, as well as moved the carrier. If I update, do you foresee this causing a problem with this custom campaign based on 1989EM v1? I doubt it, based on what you have said, but I figured I would ask anyway.
I will test tonight on my own, but any additional information would be helpful.
Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I have to admit I did not test for the carrier thing as I rarely fly carrier aircraft, but will check this. If it is still an issue, I’m not sure how to fix it though.
If you have made edits to the campaigns, you will have to redo them. You could possibly get around this by not copying the save0 thru save2 files in the Campaign folder over, but would mean that the changes I’ve made to them won’t be included. Safest solution would be to redo your edits if its not too much work, sorry. If there’s anything that you’d suggest for general inclusion in those edits feel free to post it here and I can look at including it in the main campaign.

does include F-4s in the campaigns?
I think u know why im asking -

I think u know why im askingThe ROKAF has quite a few F-4Es in all of the campaign scenarios, and the first and second campaigns include a unit of USAF F-4G’s for SEAD support.
Unfortunately the F-4 pit isn’t all that great which is the main problem with flying them, but I suppose one could substitute it with another existing pit if needed.

Thanks a lot for the update. I had great fun with the v1.0.

Just a quick notice for everyone, there will be a EM1989 v2.0 coming out later this week, hopefully by friday. In light of this, if you are planning a long campaign with this scenario, consider holding off until then!
This will be entirely rebuilt on the new U3 database, and should fix some issues (like the carrier catapult alignment). This will also include some additional changes that I didn’t get around to adding to 1.0/1.2 last time. These include things like the AIM-9N, possibly (if I can get it working) the AGM-65E Laser Maverick, and the AIM-120A (not present in 1989, but useful for a follow up 1994/95 version).

Well to the cokpit thing. There isnt much cokpit builders left anymore. I tried contcting Qawa witch i think he is the original cokpit builder for the F-4 just so i can edit the textures, cause the model it self is quite good, (ok not fully clickable) but i think with better textures would be awesome but his inbox is full and he cannot accept any messages. I allready exported the ESK version and im starting my tests today

Outstanding work - looking forward to running this at UOAF.

EM 1989 Version 2.0 is now available from here; http://www.mediafire.com/file/r2aadw6hi48n8ia/Add-On_Korea_EM1989_v2.0_Release.rar
Installation;
- Unrar the downloaded file into the …\Data folder in your BMS install location.
First post has also been updated with the new info.
This is a complete rebuild based on the U3 database, and is somewhat different from the previous versions, and not really backwards compatible in any way. It has its own install folder so it can be installed alongside v1.2.
Most notably this version fixes the issues with the carrier catapult alignments, and adds the AIM-9N (used by the ROKAF) and the AGM-65E (used by the A-6E) and the AGM-65F (used by various navy aircraft). The Block 30/32 F-16’s have lost the ability to carry the TGP (this was originally a temporary fix to add LGB-capable F-16’s in v1.0 when the 40/42 were not included).
The campaign scenarios were rebuilt entirely, so squadrons may not be the same as before, though should be broadly similar.
One issue I am trying to correct is getting the automatic mission loadout selector to not like rocket pods so much. I had added the ability for the F-16s to carry 2 pods on a slant TER configuration on stations 3/7, but the system would keep picking 4 rocket pod loadouts over AGM65s etc. for DEAD (which might kind of work) and even OCA (not so much). So I had to drop them back down to 1 per pylon to get rid of this behaviour. Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated!

Outstanding thank you.

Do you plan sensor changes?
-
Nothing beyond what is currently in there is planned at the moment, do you have any suggestions?
-
Thanks for sharing your work and v2
Cheers!

+1.
Interesting to fly, I love what the A-6s can do.With best regards,

Version 2.3 patch available from here; http://www.mediafire.com/file/dsb8v8djlfd4l72/Add-On_Korea_EM1989_v2.3_Patch.rar
Installation;
- Unrar the downloaded file into the …\Data folder in your BMS install location. Overwrite files when requested.
This should be entirely compatible with ongoing games.
This is a small update (next major version will be v2.5) with the following changes;

-Added Onboard ECM to A-6E and A-7E, still looking for how to adjust the strength of it.
-Actually removed TGP from Blk30/32 F-16s this time. Also brought Blk30 CM dispensers into line with other F-16s for now.
-Small loadout tweaks.Next version will be looking at;
-Seeing if I can get the F4 to stop dumping its ECM pod and AIM7s with emergency jettison
-Finishing up missile adjustments
-Possible addition of PL-2, PL-5.
-Trying to fix the belly bomb racks on the Tornado IDS, if I can get this done the German and Italian IDS will be joining the theatre. I may also look at rerolling the GR4 into a GR1.
