RE: A weird hotas issue
Look at Snelle’s profile (https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?24506-X55-keyfile-Full-DX-Programmed). He has a registry hack that adds the ministick as two bindable axes without deleting any other axes. Even better, it works in other flight sims, too.

RE: I can not enter RAMP
If the takeoff time is less than 20 minutes from the current game clock, it won’t let you ramp start. For training, I recommend focusing on what the learning objectives are for each hop, rather than doing every thing every time. This will get you up to speed faster, but mean you spend less time doing bread-and-butter things. On the other hand, maybe this is why my overhead breaks are such a mess…

RE: Falcon BMS Crashes when Oculus Software is running
Try running BMS in Windowed mode. You’ll also want to have Opentrack running prior to launching Virtual Desktop to get the TrackIR headtracking working. You can’t use the Virtual Desktop 90 hz override feature with BMS (that is, you can’t launch BMS from the tab in Virtual Desktop for games). Instead you run Virtual Desktop, and then just use your usual Windows shortcut / .exe to run BMS.

RE: Air-to-Air guide for beginners?
The -34 manual in the Docs folder of your install has a good summary starting on page 133. Unfortunately, the A-A training missions haven’t been finished yet. Supanova has some excellent tutorials online (here’s the Aim-9 one:
) . I found using Instant Action for Air to Air on Rookie was a good way to get comfortable with the switchology in a non-threatening environment with unlimited missiles. You can also set up a Dogfight against a non-threatening adversary to practice locking up targets, understanding the DLZs, and releasing weapons. I’d start with the AIM-9 and then move to the AIM-120, as the ranges are shorter and you can see what’s going on better. After you have the basics down, the real fun begins as air-to-air combat, be it 1 v 1 or many v many is extremely dynamic and challenging.p.s. I also find that the air-to-air refueling TE provides an excellent opportunity for kills against a gently turning target.

RE: Virtual Reality (VR) and BMS.
Flyinside doesn’t support BMS. There’s a request in the developer’s forum for it - feel free to add your name. There are several significant barriers to getting BMS in VR.
- Good head tracking - OpenTrack works well, but can get wonky at unusual angles)
- side-by-side 3D image generation. You can do this with Tridef, but it is extremely graphically expensive and can’t come close to the 90 FPS needed for good VR. BMS doesn’t generate a depth map for Reshade’s Superdepth shader. Trinus gets a SBS image onto your phone, but can’t generate one on its own. Nvidia 3D vision can generate 3D SBS, but you need a compatible monitor. Vorpx doesn’t work with BMS.
- HUD and HMCS are not collamated to the correct distance - the HUD appears too close.
- The external model visible from the cockpit is separate from the cockpit model, making the scaling off in 3D
- The 2D interface is challenging to work with in VR.
Several folks have been working on this for some time, but without some external help (Flyinside, Vorpx), or an unreasonable amount of effort from the devs, I don’t see it happening. You can use Opentrack and VR Toolbox to get a good 2D VR effect.

RE: How to lock radar coursor on a target and drag chute
TMS up will lock both air and ground targets. Most F-16s do not have drag chutes. If you’re having trouble with the manuals, I’d recommend Supanova’s YouTube tutorials for learning the jet and systems.

RE: X-56 Slider/Second Rotary
The second rotary may be assigned to another random control (HMCS brightness, etc.) which is why you may not be seeing it. I have an X-55 and haven’t found the slider to be useful. It’s basically a single button that gets pushed once when you slide it forward. I’d recommend mapping your speedbrake to the upper throttle hat and not bothering with the slider.

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
I’m still using your outstanding profile Snelle but it started me dipping my toes into DX programming. I still haven’t found anything useful to use the throttle slider for, but did find a way to use the Mode switch to emulate the 3 position Master Arm switch (Mode 1 = Arm, Mode 2 = Safe, Mode 3 = Sim). Clicking the switch into position is very satisfying. To make it work you have to choose “Clear” in the Rhino profile menu to make sure Mad Catz Default isn’t selected as a profile. These are the callbacks you need:
SimSafeMasterArm 15 8 -2 0 0x0 -1
SimSimMasterArm 16 8 -2 0 0x0 -1
SimArmMasterArm 63 8 -2 0 0x0 -1I’m a bit confused because I though the button ID for SimArmMasterArm, which is Mode 1 on the throttle, would be 14, but this is what I found in the keyfile after editing it in the UI and testing it.
I’ve made a few other changes too: Rotary 4 controls HMD brightness rather than yaw trim (I flew several missions with my ship trimmed right accidentally). Shift-toggle 1 up activates HMD. I moved speedbrake to forward / aft throttle hat 3 and removed the CWS bindings from that hat to more closely emulate the real jet. I made throttle H “Look Closer” toggle and Throttle I is “Wheel Brakes” I lost an airframe after accidentally slightly extending my brakes while taxiing. It is also impossible to use the VHF/UHF radio while the brakes are engaged in the default profile, making it hard to coordinate multiplayer takeoffs. I’d be happy to share my full .key if you’re interested.

RE: Undamaged runway with crater preventing takeoff by players
When you Recon a runway it will show up as several segments. These are the places, usually 3-4 per runway, you’d want to hit to have it count for “damaged.” I’m guessing this crater wasn’t in one of those zones for your base so it didn’t show up as damaged (and that’s why AI was able to take off). Practically, you want to try to hit where the taxiways enter the runway as these hits are most likely to fully disable the base.

RE: 4K UHD Graphic Settings for 2 Nvidia GTX 1080's in SLI
I think you should be getting better performance. Even a single 1080 should crush Falcon BMS. I’m running a gtx980ti on 4K and am generally 60+ fps. This is with all sliders at their recommended levels. I do have multisampling turned only to 1 in the in-game config - turning it up past this doesn’t seem to help visual fidelity, but it does lead to dropped frames. There might be something in your Nvidia profile that’s mucking it up - try running with the default options for Nvidia.
One hidden visual item that has a lot of fps cost is focus shadows - configurable in the launcher. This leads to a big fps hit when landed / close to the ground. I find this is a much bigger hit than cockpit shadows.-Rabbit

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
I’ve been continuing to fly with this profile for several months and am still loving it. I wanted to share some experience with it. I dran into a problem in a multiplayer flight a few weeks ago. During taxi I had to rapidly apply my wheelbrakes a few times due to unexpected deceleration from my flight lead. By the time I lined up on the runway my speedbrakes were slightly open (I apparently wasn’t giving the shift button enough time before pressing the wheelbrake button, and was instead just slightly opening the speedbrakes each time). I failed to recognized this and started my takeoff roll. I realized something was wrong, but by the time I had the speedbrakes retracted I was out of runway and crashed. Using the slider for speedbrakes is not ideal, as it doesn’t allow you to have fine control over opening / closing them which you need to AAR. I removed speedbrake open / close from the buttons H and I and rebound speedbrake open and close to forward and back on the upper throttle hat (the one labelled EWS) which originally would cycle countermeasure programs and modes. I removed the mode select from the hat as I don’t believe it is really on a HOTAS control in the jet, and I never found myself using it. This is also a similar location to the speedbrake switch in the jet. Now I have unshifted H bound to wheelbrake and unshifted I bound to trackIR recenter.

RE: Problems with comms menus
I have the same issue running Win 10 64 at 4k resolution and I have the same issue. I have my display set to 175%. I’m not sure if there’s an elegant way around it - the most important hidden command I’ve noticed is “Remove Chocks” (option 8 for the Tower menu)

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
To access the shifted state, press and hold down the pinkie button for at least 0.5 seconds and then, while still holding the pinkie button, press the next button / switch. The pinky switch is the small circular button at the base of the stick. The larger paddle / trigger shaped button at the base of the stick is used to disengage the autopilot. To use the usual pinky switch functions (e.g. expand FOV for the TGP, activate EXP mode for the FCR), quickly tap the pinky switch for <0.5 seconds. Make sure you don’t have any profiles loaded (aside from Snell’s if desired) in the H.U.D. / SST Saitek software (the menu in your notification area that looks like a green rhino’s head)

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
The profile works fine with U1. When I upgraded my USB IDs changed and instead of using the swapped ID file, I used the regular one. With this I discovered that some of the bindings in the swapped ID file are mixed up.
The shifted scroll wheel to cancel DGFT/MRM mode works perfectly, it didn’t work in the shifted ID file.
Shifting the front throttle rocker switch is bound to COMM IN/OUT as in the diagram. On the shifted ID file I couldn’t get this to work either
The 2 throttle hats now function as indicated in the diagram. In the shifted ID file the upper throttle had pushed forward activated the jammer, pushed backward deactivated the jammer, and pushed up was CMS forward (I think). The lower throttle hat would step through programs and modes. These now work correctly with the lower switch pushing down activating the jammer, pushing forward deactivating the jammer, and up and back running programs. Thanks again Snell for your excellent work. Here is a link to imgur with images of the English-language axis configuration: http://imgur.com/a/TPrYv

RE: Collimated HUD in stereoscopic 3D - is it possible?
This is a great find. Thanks! It looks like you could also do this to move the HMCS symbology further away (HMS line). When I tried using HMCS in 3D it felt like the symbology was right on my nose. Do you know what units these are in? I’ll try some trigonometry to figure out how to adjust the scaling to make it look right.
Thanks

RE: BMS Not working with X-55
I had a problem similar to this before I updated my motherboard drivers to the Windows 10 ones - there might be an issue with your USB controller and Win 10. Is your X-55 recognized in Windows?

RE: DMS up and X55
Snell created an outstanding X-55 profile. It emulates the real HOTAS very closely, includes reasonable and useful things on the throttle switches, and uses only Mode 1.

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
In the flight control section of the advanced control page you can set the deadzone for the yaw trim control. I have it set to “medium” so that having the knob anywhere close to the middle of its range provides no yaw trim. The knob should have a small line cut into its top. When that line is pointing to 12-o-clock (straight up when looking at the throttle) you should be in neutral and have no yaw trim.

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
I haven’t been able to get the MRM/DF override function to work. The rest of the shifted functions are just fine (including the trigger first detent -thanks!) I think the throttle picks up the “buttons” from the rotating wheel in an unusual way - the cancel appears to work if I hold the wheel between the “clicks” (there are subtle clicks you can feel when you rotate it), but then you’re right back into DF or MRM once you let go and it lands on a click. I dipped my toe into DX editing and changed the Snowplow key to DF/MRM override and that seems to work well.
Again, absolutely outstanding work. Your keyfiles should be included with the installs.
