Interesting reading since I too have the same issue you mentioned. My early use of the X55 had me set the pickle button to the stick thumb button because of that. Later study into BMS informed me that the standard location is the red button way at the top above the hat. Tried it, but just can’t get used to it there. I can reach it and press it, but find that I loose stick precision having my thumb stretched up so high, especially during CCIP. So I have moved it back to the thumb button where I can press and hold and not loose stick precision. I wonder what the reach is on the new X56? I understand that the one press thumb button is now an axis or a 4 way.

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
One question though, was your mouse erratic all the time or only since the REG update?
My issue with the erratic mouse has always been there and not related to your registry key suggestion. I also do not run the HUD software at all due to other issues I’ve had with it in the past, so it would not have been a conflict. Since I see the erratic issue with the Saitek software and without it on the windows controller calibration test screen, I have to assume it’s hardware of driver until someone can suggested another idea. Thanks for your reply.

RE: X55 keyfile -BMS -Full DX Programmed
Excellent work, and thanks for sharing and updating.
After months of searching to find a way to get the X55 mini mouse on the throttle to work, I can verify too that your registry edits worked. I was able see new X and Y axis in the BMS Advanced Controller page and get it to set for FCR cursor commands. Your documentation was very helpful in explaining the process.
Unfortunately, I have the same issue that many others have posted elsewhere on the web about erratic movement with the mini mouse. Typically the first command is recognized, but any movement after that randomly goes in different directions. So if I move the mini mouse up and then right, I may see the FCR cursor move up and then down……or up and then diagonal.
This is the same erratic movement I see in the HUD software when I tried the ‘bands’ setup, as well as in the windows calibration window. So I’ll assume this is a hardware or driver issue as many other posts on the web indicate. If anyone knows of how to overcome this I would be interested. I’ve reverted back to my throttle thumb 4 way for cursor movement, which does work just fine using the DX commands, and is a bit more ergonomic for my thumb position.

RE: Best munitions for runways
My success story with BLU107’s on runways. (from memory)
Fence In - SMS Page - CNTL OSB - set AD (arming delay) to 0.50. The manual is best to explain setting this as I may just confuse things.
If you are on the SMS page with the BLU107’s set and the AD setting in the middle of the page is 0.50, then you got it.
This arms the missile almost instantly once it’s released.Set CCIP mode.
Line up with runway centerline between 3 and 6 miles out and under 1000 AGL. This reduces chance of AAA and Manpad hits.
I typically am under 1000 AGL once over enemy territory. Used to be fun on TFR when the Block 40 had it as an option.Slight dive when over the runway to place the piper. Pickle each BLU107 individually and space them over the length of the runway. I’ve found that I get more ‘Destroyed’ scores this way. It appears there may be two or three “hit” zones on each runway which may explain why the Recon targets list runways 2 or 4 times. One BLU107 in one of the undamaged ‘hit’ zones will give a “Destroyed” score, while any others in that area will just give “Damaged”. This is only from my observations.
Pull off the end of the run low into a high G turn staying under 1000, chaff and flare, switch to CAT I.
You can switch to AA Mode for bandits, or stay in AG mode to plot your egress course around ground target areas until your clear and can climb out.I can typically carry 12 BLU107’s and hit two runways on one sortie. With a human wingman we can hit at least three runways. AI is useless trying to get them to line up on the runway centerline, so I bring them for AA cover. Even when I have them in trail and give the “Attack my Target” command, they hit taxiways and lights.
This may not be the ‘real’ way of doing it, but it works well for me, and the BLU107 is my only choice for runways. Anytime I’ve tried laser bombs at higher altitudes either the SAM’s or AAA get me. Staying at 1000 AGL or under and going fast is best for me. Plan for plenty of fuel since low level flight will use it fast.

RE: Upload speed for clients
I just studied all of this, so this may be helpful to tordo, or others reading in the future.
The BMS-Manual says:
para. 3.2.4 (pg 3-19)
“….default is 500. Minimum allowed value is 150.”para. 7.1 (page 7-81)
“As a general rule of thumb upload speeds should be higher than 0.4 Mb/sec and pingtime less than 250 ms.”para. 7.3 (page 7-82)
“As a general rule of thumb, enter the upload speed of your connection minus 10-25% in kilobits.”tordo - you have .7 Mb/sec upload speed which would equal 700 kbps by my calculation. (.7 * 1000 = 700)
The manual recommends you set bandwidth to 75% of your upload kbps (700 * .75 = 525 BW)
My calculation is that you set 525 Bandwidth.Does anyone know if these calculations are based on my Speedtest to a local server, or if it needs to set it to a server close to the host?
I’ve heard of the possibility of ill effects if clients are using different bandwidth settings when connected on one server. If anyone can confirm or deny that I would appreciate it. I didn’t see any official reference in the manual or in BMS forums.

RE: Firing Mav question
I can boresight mav fine. My issue is to get the cross stop flashing. I tried the keyhole approach, but even though I put the small cross right on top of the big cross, it still won’t stop flashing. Any tips on how to get a solid cross? Also, is there a height and diving angle restriction on mav’s firing envelope?
Yes. AGM-65 training mission, here, is a good place to start: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals\BMS-Training.pdf
Are the Launch Restrictions maximums listed in the training manual in regard to the AGM or the aircraft? I’ve found it’s a lot harder to get the cross to stop flashing at higher altitudes. Could it be at higher altitude with only a 10 degree aircraft descent, (and all other factors within limits), that the cross flashes because the missile optic itself is exceeding the 60 deg div angle looking down at the target before launch?
If this isn’t the case, then I still have the same problem pandacat has that’s not been solved by reading the training manual, bms manual, videos, or posts.

RE: [Bug 4.33] TGP not loaded for wingmen w/ LGB as default
Sorry sir……but I don’t know what it means…“flight was probably deagged when he clicked the box.”. So I hope the investigation continues at least enough to explain the reason this happens I the post, since I two have this happen from time to time and can’t figure out why. Seems I learn a lot of things from these types of posts, so I appreciate your time giving descriptive answers. Thanks.

RE: Hosting IVC Server
From my personal experience, check your anti-virus quarantine list. My system put the IVC Server exe in quarantine and never notified me….or if it did, I didn’t see it until I physically went and looked.

RE: [4.3.3] Black screen after take off and grphics issues
I can relate with your frustration of troubleshooting the black screen (freeze) issue, as I have been through it a number of times, for different reasons. From the number of posts I’ve tried to follow, it sounds quite random (take off, TGP operations, bombs exploding, etc), which to me seem to also coincide with functions that would task the graphics card and even the CPU more than just flying along. These are random times that I’ve dealt with also……even on exit of the 3d.
To assist you, or others that may read in the future, I think you need to take major steps in troubleshooting instead of picking at it one at a time. I would recommend taking steps to eliminate any conflicts that could be there by disabling or turning off ‘anything’ on your entire system that may be tasked by the graphics card or even the CPU. Turn off everything that you don’t need before starting BMS. As a further step, you could then disable everything inside of BMS that may task your system such as shaders, rain, shadows, HD water, and set graphics settings to low.
I think I read one of your posts that you’re running music in the background. Or maybe you have a program that starts with Windows that monitors your GPU, or Anti-Virus, or web application. Eliminating ‘everything’ you possibly can and running BMS as clean as possible would be my recommendation after all you have tried.
I once spent weeks reinstalling BMS, drivers, and changing every setting I found to try in the BMS posts, all to find that my EVGA Precision X running in the background was the culprit of one of my issues. Once you eliminate any possible conflict and you have a successful test, then you can start turning things back on a few at a time.
Good luck

RE: [Not a bug] 4.33 Speedbrake Indicator not working like I expected
Maybe I’ll ease my confusion by just mapping the toggle command so it’s either full open or full closed. Then I don’t need to worry about what position of partial travel it’s in.
Too many other awesome things to look at in this update anyway. -
RE: [Not a bug] 4.33 Speedbrake Indicator not working like I expected
I’m not about to disagree with the Devs on normal behavior, but I have to agree with the confusion with the original poster. With the new 4.33 gauge, I can have my speed brake fully open. When I give it a AFBrakesIn command for only a second and stop, the indicator says they are fully closed, but external view says they are still almost fully open since it takes about 6 seconds for them to close. I preferred the 4.32 method where I could look at the gauge and see it moving as the speed brake is in transient, and doesn’t show full closed until they are actually is closed. If there is a reason behind the current method, I don’t understand.

Video Freeze with EVGA Precision X
The BMS forums have been an immense help in troubleshooting and learning the F16 sim. The knowledge and patience users have in their responses to posts of all types is impressive, particularly from the Benchmark Sims staff. My thanks in a small way is to offer a solution to an aggravating issue I’ve recently dealt with and solved.
On a new computer, I finally got back to setting up the BMS display extraction to a second monitor as I had with my older computer. In testing numerous BMS and Windows settings I would either get video lockups in the 3D after only a few seconds, or I would get successful 3D and display extraction, but when switching from 3D to 2D, the video would freeze on the exit splash screen. This would require that I force close BMS with task manager.
The video freeze in 3D is one where I could continue to interact with commands and hear sounds such as tower comm. or throttle adjustment, but the screen would just freeze at the cockpit view. The exit screen freeze would allow me to move my mouse around the locked splash screen and be able to hear the ‘chirp’ as I hover over a menu item hiding under the splash screen. I also experienced random crashes to desktop and other oddities which may be related to a number of settings adjustments, but the video freeze was the predominant issue.
Finally I found that turning off the EVGA provided Precision X 16 application has corrected all issues and I now have successful MFD display extraction and sim operation. Since I didn’t see this specific fix in my searches of the forum posts, I hope posting this may help others.

RE: Installation Problem
Keep working at it like you have been and you will get it. This is not a sim to jump in and go, and can take some digging in the forums, reading manuals, and youtubes. As for the pickle bug you mentioned, if you are sure it’s not a key command issue then it could be a know bug. See this thread.

RE: Installation Problem
……my mouse cursor seems to float when trying to click on something but this is only in the cockpit.
Could this be a reference to the default config. setting that anchors the mouse on cockpit button hotspots? I recently did a fresh BMS install and was wondering what was wrong with my mouse seeming to lag in the cockpit until I remembered this setting. The setting in found in the ‘falcon bms.cfg’ file located in the BMS Config folder. The default install was set to ‘1’, but I changed mine to ‘0’ for smoother mouse in the cockpit.
set g_b3DClickableCursorAnchored 0 // If enabled, the cursor is anchored on hotspot while moving view

Online Text Missing After BMS Re-Install
Since a recent uninstall/reinstall of BMS I’m having a problem while in an online campaign where the online players list will not display, and the ‘Esc E’ blue box has no text in it. If I try to send a text chat, the text box shows as a very thin line, but I see no incoming or outgoing text display on screen. Others have reported that they see my text message if I type it in blind while the very thin line is displayed, but I don’t see anything. All other AI comm boxes and AWACs/Tower text appear on screen normally. Oddly, this problem only exists while in an online campaign.
I’m currently on Windows 8, but everything had been working fine for a couple months since my initial installation on this new build. There have been no recent changes to the operating system, video drivers or hardware. My assumption is that I missed something on the uninstall/reinstall process (uninstall through the ‘setup.exe’ - removed ‘Benchmark Sims’ and ‘F4Patch’ reg keys). Or maybe I missed something when copying previous config files to the new install (I only copied the pilotname files, .key file, and phonebook). I’m hopeful someone has experienced this and has an easy fix that I’m overlooking.

RE: X55 worth getting?
This jpg helped me a lot. Easier to see than to explain.
My recommendation for the X55 is to use the BMS DX settings in the BMS .key file, bypassing the Saitek software, and using a powered USB hub. -
RE: One BMS action on more than one (DX) button?
My controller commands have and ‘8’ in the third section and not a ‘-1’. Seems to work well for me. Only my keyboard commands use the ‘-1’. (Ref: Falcon BMS Keyfile Manual.pdf pg 24)

RE: X55 woes
Welcome to the ‘X55 Woes Club’. As a full-fledged member, I can attest to an awesome controller once you get past the learning curve of unique issues. Many good posts here in this forum to help.
To address your current situation, I did not see you mention making adjustments in your BMS ‘.key’ file. If you have not studied up on that, I would suggest doing so. I have found that using the in game control setup for key commands can do some odd behavior, like setting random controller presses to commands. I do all of my key mapping to the ‘.key’ file for switches and buttons. The rotaries set up fine in the BMS controller settings.
My settings for the Mode switch in the ‘.key’ file are:
SimDoNothing 14 8 -2 0 0x0 0
SimDoNothing 15 8 -2 0 0x0 0
SimDoNothing 16 8 -2 0 0x0 0 -
RE: Taking out the Kirov - AGM-65G FTW
Thanks for your timely post as I have just been working on the Kirov, and getting the ‘BOOM’ as you did. The closest I got was a run under 500 feet, but had a hard time seeing the ships on the MAV WPN page screen. So I popped up to 800 feet and only had time to launch two before the SA-N-6’s were coming at me. I’ve found success in the Korea theater under 1500 for most SA’s, and can even overfly hot targets if I’m going fast. Is there a minimum altitude I can stay under against the SA-N-6 from the Kirov so I can get in closer to get all 4 missiles off? Would Radar and ECM off help me get close?
