Tried block 50 this morning but could not replicate my results from before which was weird. The only thing I have changed is my controller mapping so maybe the issue lies there (using a x55 hotas). I tried several times to replicate what I had with the dropping to hud first time every time and just has not happened today. To be quite honest this has annoyed the living hell out of me as it was a genuine issue. Why it would not work for the first selection but would work thereafter tells me it was not something I was doing wrong in any way but a conflict or bug. Since the only thing to change is my controller setup, I will say probably conflict. Dont know… Just cant replicate it today.

RE: Snowplow markpoint nightmare
I will get an answer to that in a bit. Been flying the BLOCK 40 recently with zero issues of Mark Points. I need to get back in the 50 to know exactly if I just made SOI or if I tracked. I think on both it still fails to HUD but like I said…… it does this the first time you make a mark point. Thereafter it works correctly even if you perform other tasks and come back to the Mark system it behaves correctly. Just the first use of each flight!

RE: Snowplow markpoint nightmare
I will try to get to the bottom of this as when flying combat missions it is easy to “muscle memory” many of your inputs. I will take to the skies in a block 50 & 40 and map the differences in this. Although Leeches answer is correct it is not what we are facing here. I have been SEAD striking using TGP and FCR SP for a long time without this issue of being thrown to HUD on MARK points and loosing the very hard searched for SAM targets.
I flew in the Block 40 last night on a 3 hours SEAD mission (2 tanker fills, got to get better at those burnt almost 3000 lbs of fuel on reconnects ;P) and everything was working perfectly. I will mark down on paper exactly what is different in the 50 and any findings will be updated here. Like I mentioned before with the Block 50, it seems to be the first time I use the MARK point regardless of TMS up to SOI the FCR in SP mode, once you click that MARK button (after SOI and slew availability) it chucks you to HUD and drops your target! Even if you move the SOI to TGP the result is the same. Ater that forst annoying fail, all works fine thereafter. I always use SP mode. So for me its pretty critical to my missions as a SEAD specialist who refuses to use HARMS
Not sure if this is correct but in a real F-16 I think if no SOI is selected it actually defaults to a 0fly making it easy to mark current positions to handoff info to AWACS. Might be wrong on that. Not an F-16 pilot. Dammit!

RE: Snowplow markpoint nightmare
Interesting stuff…. Moved to a BLOCK 40 and everything seems to behave exactly as it should. Is that possible? Have not tried any other bocks than the 50 and 40 though. The 50 causes me the issues. Hope it helps!

RE: Snowplow markpoint nightmare
Even when the TGP is SOI I am afraid but like I said… it only happens the first time I select it…thereafter it behaves correctly
Also want to add I use TGP in my R-MFD not L-MFD. Haven’t tested it in the left!

RE: Snowplow markpoint nightmare
Your a genius…. CZ worked perfectly
The first time every time I use the Mark point it always sets itself to HUD… but from that moment on whenever I go back to Mark it remains on my SOI. Then once I have my markpoint clicking CZ brings me right back to target and doesnt slew miles off. Thanks again. I am back to being happy!

RE: Snowplow markpoint nightmare
I am too struggling now with Marking targets. In SP mode it is not doing as the manual says and instantly outs you to HUD mark. Okay I just cycle through to TGP mark and also put my SOI back to TGP… my issue is that the saved mark points are not saving the right coordinates. Often when inputting the new steerpoint I will see my marker on my FCR jump several miles off my target which I marked! Anyone else experiencing this. I am just about to do another flight tomorrow morning so I will test again but on both previous flights this has been the case. Making my SEAD missions next to impossible as it is.

RE: Windows 10
I have moved to Windows 10 with very little impact. I strongly suggest anyone who does move to Windows 10 to check that their hardware (mainly chipsets and motherboards and sound/graphics drivers have a Windows 10 supported driver). I noticed that everything works very well in Windows 10 but did have to update my motherboard and sound drivers to win10 drivers to make my Blue SNowball (microphone) work correctly. I also noticed my Saitek X55 Rhino needed reconfiguration as it was conflicting with my EDtracker and inputs were going a little haywire. Other than that I have had no other issues. Once drivers were updated it has been plain sailing. Below is a list of my hardware if it is relevant to anyone else…
Intel i7 4790k Devils Canyon
Asus Maximus Hero 7 Motherboard
Realtek 5.1 surround digital sound
AMD R9 390x Tri-x 8GB DDR5All of the above had new Windows 10 drivers ready to install.
Hope it helps.

RE: SEAD/DEAD Options for AAA and SAM
I had similar questions to you…… https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?22341-Tactics-for-dealing-with-a-SAM-nest and this was the thread I started which has great info in it. Like others have said many ways to skin this cat……
I choose not to use HARMS and prefer the old fasioned Weasel way…Tobias did a YouTube video of the very tactic which I use… I am still perfecting this way and it relies on very quiet skies… but it does allow for a great and pre-planned (in-flight) attack.
If you are SEAD escort then this method takes too long to clear a target area so Harms maybe your best option then. But I choose to FRAG my own packages and create interdiction flights where I can take my time and choose my targets… I let AI do structural targets… I just clear the SAM nests in my own time. Search and destroy without any package time limitations.

RE: New X55 owner, some issues and questions…
I mapped my pinky slider on the rear of the throttle to open and down to close air brakes. The front slider on the throttle I used as a fast switch to dogfight mode but for DF slider I did use the software….

RE: New X55 owner, some issues and questions…
I just mapped it in the hotas programming menu as mouse up and mouse down then in bms removed zoom view controls to keyboard. Now it is smooth as butter……
If it helps?

RE: Tactics for dealing with a SAM nest
Great Vid Tobias…. learnt a lot from it and ways for me to make a cleaner run. I had all the right ideas just not the clean implementation so thanks for your vid. Great job!

RE: Tactics for dealing with a SAM nest
okay, as usual things change rapidly on the battlefield. Got some nails from the SA2 then noticed I was a bit further West than my flight plan. Next thing I know a line of SA9’s launch at me. Ended up marking them coming around and used all my MK20’s on them. Took some ground fire on a second pass but made it home. Got a nice Air Medal too…. Not sure why it was chaos and little skill was involved. Will go for another Weasel later tonight and test this mark point, defend, and low dive toss attack method later. Thanks for all the help guys… I think I spend too much time floating around at 20,000. Finished Dan Hampton’s Viper Pilot book and finding out the guy was pretty damn good at his job! I suck! Practice makes perfect… or is it practice makes cemetery’s overcrowded?

RE: Tactics for dealing with a SAM nest
Ok… On route with some mk20’s. Testing some of the great responses in about 10 mins. Will let you know. 40 miles from target sead Mark, defend, popup and empty my underpants!
-
RE: Tactics for dealing with a SAM nest
Great replies guys…. The 88’s are available but I am trying the old fashioned way. Guess I will try low after I initiate my mark point and defend. When I pop what altitude would you recommend I pop up too for a clean loft and f off without coming home looking like I kissed a shotgun?

Tactics for dealing with a SAM nest
Hi guys,
Really need some help. I am on a SEAD mission to clear a Strike target on a radar but I just cant clear the SAM nest. It has an SA2 and 2 * SA3’s. I was initially trying to get in with MK20’s but after a couple of attempts switched to Maveriks as I need to get out of dodge and thought I could get in close enough to launch and break.
My issue is I just cant get close to the nest. I just get an SA2 launch before I am anywhere near in range. I pop flares and defend and keep trying to re-attack. May I also note that this SA2 is not that close to my target clear area but obviously close enough to pose a serious threat to the Strike package. I am at a loss. I am also not marking the nest as a steerpoint target (Mission planner) as I want it as real as I can get. I want to wicked weasel, get eyes on target and take care of it like the real boys……
SO in short:
I am flying around Strike package target waiting for SAMS to play, waiit for the launch and mark the site. Defend then re-attack the area which was marked. Just cant get close enough before I am relaunched upon. Also how many missiles are on an SA2 wrack? Many I assume as they seem to have limitless supplies down there!
Cheers
Any chance of some tactics or advice… I am up for learning!
p.s AGM-88 HARMS are the easy way out? People did fly without them so it must be possible to deal with this? Also I wont be offended if you think I am being a fool or an idiot… I surprise myself daily when flying BMS!

RE: Help with campaign settings…
I think the sliders affect blue AI too. You need to keep AC and AD on, otherwise no one will attack these. Also, DCA and SAM suppression should be up. This way the AI will generate all those flights that you need to keep BARCAPS up and get the SAMS down. Keep Runways and OCA strikes up if you want the campaign to generate those missions for you or leave them down and you can build your own OCA strikes.
This is what I do.
Cheers for the input….
That’s good to know as I WANT to keep SAM suppression and OCA Strikes sliders down to minimum. I control my own Squadrons ATO and my primary role is OCA and SEAD missions…I don’t want AI to create those flights as I feel this is why by day 2 the campaign is pretty numb. AI takes out too many airbases and defences then no enemy aircraft are around to try and avoid… thus I can then fly in at any altitude and drop bombs without one intercept or one SAM launch… makes for a pretty lack lustre campaign. By me controlling all the OCA and SEAD and OCS ( and being pretty rubbish at it) I should be able to keep the campaign alive and stressful. This is what I am hoping for.
All these online fragged flights are just way way way more active and hectic than mine were. Anyway as an update… I moved campaigns to the Battle For Sinai as I want to hone my skills on HARM/ AGM65D and Cluster attacks and really be good at SEAD. Israel campaign doesn’t include this weaponry.

RE: Help with campaign settings…
Think I got it. In mission priorities, I have gone to Target Type and turned off Aircraft, Air Defences, Radar, and Air Fields, then turned up infrastructure, logistics, infantry and war production etc.
Then went into Mission Type and dropped the sliders for Interdictions, Offensive Counter Air and SAM suppression. Turned up the others. Hoping this will leave my squadron to be a primary SEAD and OCA Strike and Radar strike base and let the campaign manage other squadrons to do all the others.
Might loose the war but I hope it will be hectic? At least I might get to see an enemy jet after day 2 of the campaign. Fingers crossed. Might even have to abort a mission or two if my Strikes are intercepted. That would make this a lot more interesting. Would love to get hold of Krause and ask him his settings.
Any inputs to this would be greatly apprceated……
ps I have done this on the Israel Theatre of operations if you wanted to know.

RE: Help with campaign settings…
I NEVER let hq sort anything. Just set PAK’s first, eliminates lots of ultra dangerous suicide deep strikes. And best mission types for first day are DCA and SEAD + CAS , deep strikes only after day 2 two is it looks like there is enouhg holes in Red defences.
Campaing sliders or priorities only affect blue side
Would you like to enlighten me to your campaign settings? Reduce the sliders for the “blues” to what for an active long campaign where shit hits the fan on every flight. Just watched another Krause video and his flights really are a heated fight. Im just bumbeling along dropping of candy bombs here and there like it was a flower power convention. If I get shot down its because I am flying at 3000 feet at 220kts above AAA in a straight line and they dont like the candy…
