RE: F-16 radar range
its worth mentioning that the F-16 radar scans at max range regardless of the ‘range’ set in the FCR - which is just there to increase readability. if you set 40 range, it doesnt mean you are limiting your radar range, just the display.

RE: A-A Missiles doubts.
hah, that Flare video is kind of ridiculous… I sincerely hope to see in a few weeks that something has been done about this!

RE: FO - Battle For Balkans Theater
Its because the AI doesnt task F-16 sqrns by default. You can activate it by setting ‘HQ Tasking’ or something similarly worded when you start the campaign.

RE: Sorry, another SA-10 thread
I replied to the post by stating what the intentions of said weapons limitations are, that the long range SAM’s do infact take alot of punishment -atleast in FoF events at FO, and that he can still fire 45’s from 35k/35nm and take these sites down. i think that covers the questions brought up in the original post. I also sought to clarify this in relation to the FO campaigns, which you seemed to have misunderstood.
Anyway, i didnt mean any offence by it. sorry if it caused some.

RE: Sorry, another SA-10 thread
Yeh a lot of blah, At least I tried to answer the original poster and not engage in nit picking.
:munch:
The idea behind the weak HARM weapons and strong SAM’s is to make SEAD relatively challenging again and to ensure that there is a bit more airspace denied to each side than if it were otherwise. For what its worth though, the kirovs go down pretty early in the war, aswell as any SA-10’s or Patriots close to the FLOT because these tend to be challenging missions people enjoy flying and to allow your escorts to protect you more effectively while you do your AG work - eitherway its better than flying at 30K feet with 88’s and simply pressing a couple of buttons (though thats still relatively reliable even with AGM-45’s).
I just found it funny that you would expect to be able to do AG missions with impunity and that you complain that the other side doesn’t want you to destroy their ground units or infrastructure etc…

RE: Sorry, another SA-10 thread
I believe BFB are using Sa10s and Kirovs to produce a “no go” Zone to force all PvP participants to engage each other in a very restrictive manner along a predestine front.
And in fact many players I have noticed over the last year often prey upon any one trying to engage in a ground strike. Reinforcing the trend towards air action only.
If this is what you enjoy fair enoughwell thats normal isnt it? I dont know what you’d expect tbh. if you are going unescorted, you better be sure to pick a ‘safe’ target and get in and out quickly…
OT: AGM-88’s are removed from FO theatres because they are simply too easy to use; they have huge range, never miss and would render the SAM threat non existant in a PvP campaign. You can still fire a Shrike from 35k feet and 35 miles (outside the DLZ in principle) and they will hit their target. be wary though that if you get any closer, you will get shot down, and after shooting i’d advise diving for the deck.

RE: No TMS-UP. Why?
to stabilise the TGP, its need to be able to stabilize on something…

RE: All your BMS 4.32 screenshots!
wait, so you fail your mission and get blown up - and get promoted for it??? xD

RE: MICA flight path
it was 45 degrees angle off at most, and yes, i know that speed and range will affect the amount of lead needed, but despite being close, i could hardly get a shooting solution. in the end i just flew lag and reduced the angle off but it was still surprising.

RE: How long an activ missle can track you?
I dont think they are able to track you once you are on the ground.
@eagle-eye - this is due to the doppler shift of the windmills and moving cars. the FCR has a built in doppler ‘gate’ - as in anything with a return under X velocity is discounted. by lowering it you do indeed pickup all kinds of ground clutter. In certain countries (like germany for instance) they are forced to put this ‘gate’ value higher because of the faster travelling cars on the autobahn.

longer lasting contrails visible from a further distance, or atleast an option/slider for it.

RE: Any groups?
FO does have an age limit, and i’ve seen in another thread he made that he came up against it try the 72nd, they are currently recruiting and are a classy outfit to fly with!

RE: Is it possible to visually spot an AAM heading towards you ?
in a book I was reading recently, the pilots indicated that it was quite possible to get tally at 10nm. obviously it would help when they knew where to look before hand

RE: MICA flight path
another question re the mirage; specifically the 2000-5. does the cannon shoot slower rounds? I was offensive on a mig31 last night, and the amount of lead I had to pull was quite ridiculous - I was close enough to him, granted we were flying quite fast - 500kts or so - but it was really hard to get a solution because the pipper was off the hud…

after some further reading, it does indeed seem like my understanding of repeater jamming is off. i thought it would repeat the incoming signals to give the illusion that there wasn’t a return. my bad.
but eitherway as all things in BMS, you cant model them entirely realistically or accurately. its a question of tradeoffs. one thing is clear though, the current representation of jamming is very simplistic and inaccurate, and a small change (being to represent the entire azimuth on which the jamming contact is on with chevrons for example) would make it more realistic (as we know from real pilots that this is what happens), interesting and challenging to fly in a high ECM environment.

RE: Iff you could have one thing in the next update it would be. (Archive)
the ALQ-131 is the jammer pod the F-16 carries or used to carry. I think its the one that you use in BMS, though it might be the ALQ-184.
by simple logic, repeater jamming should in principle hide your presence from the FCR. thus you wouldn’t be able to detect his presence beyond the normal detection range. as he got closer (inside normal detection range) you would maybe detect the presence of jamming etc. in contrast, noise jamming would be detectable beyond the range at which you would actually be able to detect the bandit. this is how it works in falcon (you are able to see a jamming contact way beyond the range at which you would typically be able to detect him as a discrete contact) at the moment thus the implication that its basic noise jamming being modelled…
anyway, i think this discussion has run its course, theres no point discussing all the realworld aspects of jamming and F-16’s, only how it works and is represented in BMS…

RE: Iff you could have one thing in the next update it would be. (Archive)
it would be the ALQ-131 (which for what its worth can do both noise and repeater). However, what’s being simulated is quite clearly simple noise jamming - thus you are able to detect the jammer outside of normal detection range and repeater jamming is meant to ‘silently’ mask your presence…
I’m not suggesting the that the entire mechanics of ECM be reworked, just that the current implementation be refined… or rather, its one of the items on my wishlist!
