Preventing Issues Taxiing
-
I always start taxi at exactly t-4 minutes, never had any problems this way until now
-
I hope this will be addressed in the next update. I wish the player’s AI flight would follow them into any EOR pad if the base has one. That would help alleviate this problem. That way if the player discovers they are out of sequence before reaching the pad, they can move into the pad and allow the following flight to move through.
If you do a search, you will find this has been discussed before.
With that said, I suggested that the "ground control be seperate from the ATC. Ground comms would be limited to “taxi specific instructions”. And, you only have a few of them. “Cleared taxi to” such as cleared taxi to runway or cleared taxi to hold point (pin pull area or hot pit). The ground control would also marshall aircraft to the proper taxi way toward the runway or hold point. The reason we would need that is because aircraft landing and taxing to park get mixed up with departing flights. Also heavys need to taxi to specific hold and park points.
In RL this is done all the time during busy airbase operations. “Hold” at intersection and runway access points when cross traffic is present.
All this being said, it would require some AI code work to be sure. Perhaps a future bms version will have this, but I doubt the next update will have this implimented.

+1 on what LS wrote, and for me leaving the ramp 5 minutes before flight time works well.

Usually soon as my AC is ready to taxi, generally about 5-minutes before takeoff, I call tower for taxi request and he will tell you what your cue is (ex: viper-1 you are #3 for take off). So I’ll just go to external view to see if there are 2 ac waiting at ramp for takeoff. If not, then I wait for two ac to pull out of their hangers then I’ll follow. This method has never failed.
Funny thing related to this; the other day I’m waiting to pull onto a runway for a CAS. I’m waiting a few minutes while a flight of A10s are coming in for a landing. Number 1 - 3 land without issue, and just as the #4 passes the landing lights and about to pass over the runway threshold, some AI moron pulls past me (another A-10) and right onto the runway and right in the path of the A10 trying to land. I was expecting a huge fireball between the two, but to my amazement, the A10 landing pulled hard right/up and hit the throttle - just missing the A-10 that pulled out by mere inches. He pulled so hard and fast that his right wing dipped into a stall feet off the ground - I thought this guy was a goner for sure. His wing had scrapped the ground for 100’ or so, but he managed to gain control back and made it into a climb and a go around!
Couldn’t believe what I was seeing and wish I had my camera on to record it. Been flying this sim and all iterations since the 1998 release and never seen something like before. The airport was very very busy with about a dozen ac coming in to land, guess the guy just couldn’t wait! The AI for all their fault can be entertaining from time to time I guess.
Good day!

I see this sort of thing more than once. It is because the AI gets overloaded imo. Like DJ said, reduce the amount of traffic on airbases and this will not happen offten. But for realistic airbase traffic, you would have this kind of busy traffic environment. I load up the airbase traffic bucause it is more realistic to me. Just workaround the AI limitations and your good to go.

make AI follow human lead would lead to a total disaster.
you can not imagine how humans can be stupid…
for instance take a very busy airfield and watch the AI taxi and take off…you will see that they have no problem… oroblem start when human taxi in the middle…
so the best solution would actually be to make AI ignore human leaders…

Who needs to wait for their lead, anyway?
Seriously, the “best” solution wound be to rebuild the AI code. Look at MSFS; the AI isn’t perfect, but it works pretty well. It won’t try and “creep” around other jets, and waits its turn when taxing. That said, I know this isn’t gonna happen, so I’ll try and work on getting the AI to behave.

MSFS do not task, plan and launch tens of COMAO per hours. MSFS do not launch and recover one four ship flights every 5 minutes.

It does, however, manage to run the world’s largest airports, which are much, much bigger than our bases, and not cause too much of a mess. Again, I don’t expect y’all to spend much time on the issue, just saying what would happen in an ideal world.

the ai in bms definitively wait their turn to taxi though i think there might be a problem in the way they calculate the real taxi time….
and do not tease me plz

and how it organize a 4 ships a380 flight ?
seriously the problematic is different, no need to compare
and again make the test. observe a full airfield in bms campaign ’ there is no problem. problem occurs when human is involved…
definitively ignoring human is tge way to go

So … tell me what are the schedule of all airplanes and if/how they are spaced and vectored at destination, synchronized? Do they rejoin in flight, manage a spacing at push, ensure a TOT on a target … ?
Catty, you are just comparing two things that can simply not be compared. You do even not realize.
Edit: As said by JP … no comparison possible.

I certainly didn’t mean for you to take any offense, friend. Just trying to keep a lite atmosphere. I understand that it’s different, I’m just trying to highlight the fact that ground ATC has been done successfully before. I’ve also seen the AI on BMS cause jams on its own, due to arriving and departing aircraft trying to use the same taxiways.

I, too would like the immersion of a busy base. How dose one adjust traffic?

Before? … not in Falcon4.
And if you are talking about MSFS, ATC brain has just to find a slot for take off and for landing. That is all. In Falcon4, things are totally different, constrains are much higher.

AFAIK, only at OSAN AB entering the “Draggin’s Lair” apron.

I just mean in general. While I certainly applaud the fantastic work you’ve all done, and agree that pretty much everything about the sim is better, there are still things that need work. Again, it isn’t an issue of it being bad, just that it could be a lot better…

Can’t be better if some ppl do not sacrifice their free time for “your” wishes.
certainly didn’t mean for you to take any offense,
Failed (a little bit) … No offense taken … but read again what you’ve wrote and imagine how it can be taken from dev side. Especially by giving the example you gave with MSFS!

Sorry if you took it like that. I was simply citing an example. My only intention was to express my concern about working with the AI, and the discussion kind of got side-tracked.
-
Do not worry … we hadn’t waited the suggestion on ppl forum to improve ATC … just wait a little bit more
And by the way, the problem encountered at OSAN is not an IA brain issue, but rather a problem of available taxiways (apron exit).
