Trip down memory lane

Found this advert in an old PC mag I bought way back in 1991. Remember staring enviously at this wishing I had a PC powerful enough to run it! Think I had an old 086 processor running a Hercules Monochrome monitor at the time!

This os obviously an early ad, given it changed a fair bit from the description. I had an A1200 Amiga at the time - I bought an IBM 286/10 just for this game.

Thanks,
You just made me feel (very) old:rofl::rofl::rofl:
In fact, i remember Falcon AT, published a few years earlier.
O mann…… I guess i’m really that old…Greetz Terminator

I still have my old Falcon 1 manual from the Atari ST version. 1988… played it via null modem cable with a friend on a Amiga. My first LAN party.

This was around the time I really got into flight sims. A real ‘golden era’ for them on the PC. This same magazine also has reviews for Gunship 2000 and F117A. Great bit of nostalgia.

Nice ad! It’s also interesting to look at the picture of the real Viper and compare it to what they’re often configured like now. Slammers, pylon tanks, targeting pod, JDAMs / SDBs etc. Such a difference compared to the good old F-16 with just AIM-9s

I bought my Atari 1040 ST back in 1989 just to play Falcon.
I still have both, and a while ago I activated them to show my boys
what games back than looked like. -
Yep, I still have my first pc, and F4AF stills runs on it. Not a lot of memory, poor RAM, and a 16" monitor(if memory serves). About the only thing I use it for these days is Itunes. I do fire it up from time to time when the new pc gets"flaky". I look at what we used to have to work with, and I feel better!

I still keep an Atari STe from 1991 but it’s not working too good anymore (the FDD has gone bad). Although I’m going to have great fun explaining to the kids how it worked when they are old enough to get it!
Heck, I think I’ll soon be struggling for a TV that takes co-ax soon -

Good point. I was 5 when my dad got it. The only issue I recall was when he lost half his 1mb RAM due to an unseated chip. Atari’s solution at the time was to drop it flat on a hard surface from waist height - it knocked the chip back into place!
