Falcon 4.0 now on Steam

Correct, you can setup in Steam to show you are playing BMS… My friend Bold has it setup. I’m playing Arma and all of a sudden I see " Bold is now playing FalconBMS "… puts a smile on my face every time
You can actually set any bat file as a nonsteam game. So you can make a text file, rename it to (for example) ‘Call of Duty:DCS III.bat’ and add it to your steam library. Then, open the text document with steam and your online friends are notified that you are ‘playing nonsteam game Call of Duty:DCS III’.

I, an other team members, often used Steam functionality while flying BMS. Adding it as non-Steam game is very simple, it even works if you add the Launcher and not just the main .exe file. You won’t get time tracking, as that works only with native Steam games, but other options, like the whole Steam Overlay (chat, in-game internet browser etc) work like a charm. You can take screenshots easily, without the “screenshot saved…” message appearing on screen, and upload them directly to Steam so your friends can see them. Even live-streaming video works - tested on my poor ADSL upload, as I was the first one of my squad to install 4.33.

You’re better off just downloading the ISO and then installing BMS on top. As far as multiplayer goes you’re better off flying on Falcon Online as Falcon Online is the biggest community of virtual viper pilots that I know of.

Do note that BMS does not install on top of anything - it is a standalone installer.

I think Steam sucks, Invading our privacy……Does it also tell you “Shadow is now searching for pawn sites”

Does not matter anymore as we are all enlighted now

True my mistake

Don’t worry, you can play any steam games offline.
However when you are broadcasting your game play, Steam sometimes accidentally shows your desktop, so “Shadow is now searching for pawn sites” may really happens. Be careful.

In any case reading the Steam forums BMS is officially out of the closet

What “searching”…either you know where the good free stuff is or you dont. Sheesh. :p:D

I don’t know if this is allowed (or even legal, actually. Best look it up before attempting) but as BMS still uses a lot of the old Falcon 4.0 core (e.g. TrackIR software still recognizes Falcon BMS as Falcon 4.0), wouldn’t you be able to somehow trick Steam into thinking your playing Falcon 4, while you’re actually flying in BMS?
-
See post 22 of this thread for you answer to that … or are you wanting Steam to track your hours played stuff and all that?
-
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/89098/
Im guessing for the older versions DOSBOX is required?
-
BTW, I can’t capture neither GOG nor Steam version of FALCON4.0
Every time I capture the game, cockpit is keep flashing. It repeats appear and disappear.
Shadowplay, Loilo, OBS, any capture soft will suffer same stuff.
Anyone knows what is causing the problem? -

Nope. Steam is just looking for the exe name. You would need BMS exe to be renamed and also in the directory. Actually, the directory part you could trick it into doing, with junction links (SteamMover app does this automatically for you in fact). The renamed exe not so much. If you desperately wanted steam to track the hours the sim was running, and the built in logbook was not good enough at doing that (seeing as it ‘only’ tracks 3D time), you could create a script which starts BMS up, and then stays running until BMS is closed, and make it an exe file - and rename it to falcon4.exe, so that steam thinks that its running the game.
But as above, its a bit pointless, really. You want a logbook that tracks less time, not more.
