Install BMS 4.33.1 while keeping 4.33
-
Hello, little question, hoping it’s useful to more than one.
I installed 4.33.1 in a new directory, errr I mean a new folder. Can I simply copy my config files (except falcon bms.cfg) from 4.33 to 4.33.1? Can I do the same with theaters (personally, I only have the Balkans one installed)?
Thank you!
EDIT: nvm

I´ve even copied my falcon bms.cfg and it works fine

theatre’s i wouldnt copy just yet untill the devs of those theatre’s come back and say they are compatible. i read some database changes were made in the changelog so i’m not sure if they are still compatible

there’s a few callbacks you might want to add korbi that exist in the new cfg

I´ve overflewn the changelog already and saw some of them. I think I don´t gonna need them, but I reread anyways Thank you for the tip!

I tried to copy my Warthog and key settings and no joy. Works in 4.33 but for some reason I can’t get it to work in U1. Logbook, phonebook, and cfg, all fine. The DX settings for the Warthog just will not work using the same file from 4.33.

Confirm. Old keyfile cannot work with U1.

Check the new file devicesorting.txt . It prolly changed the order of your devices so the dx numbers are all different. just move the lines into the right order.

Don’t do that.
What you do not know, is that you can’t know if it works fine. Maybe it only looks fine to you.
It takes 1min to set the .cfg properly.

there are a number of differences, not many but they are there.
Im sure it will ‘work’ but there there are differences in the configs, so while you are able to and it doesnt crash, you dont want to just copy it over.i used NPP to do a file compare, doing this will let you see what settings in your old file you changed, once you are sure the new setting is the same, it makes it easy to apply the change, but dont just copy it. There are a number of plugins for NPP to do the comparison, its a pretty useful tool, here is one you can look at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/npp-compare/

I’m probaly gonna do that with the new config at some point of the whole installation process these days (Skins etc. have to be installed too).
Thanks Dee-Jay

Please read the updated sections of the Installation and Configuration chapters of the BMS Manual; it will not take you long as they are highlighted with a black bar in the left margin.
This should help you get everything set up to your satisfaction, especially if you are beta-testing Windows 10 for Microsoft :-? and it keeps messing up your controllers.

Hopefully we don’t get a new folder for every hotfix now. Just a thought as this one goes into //Falcon BMS 4.33 U1

From Boxer’s post here https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?26408-4-33-1-will-release-shortly-what-you-need-to-know-and-how-to-be-prepared:
We had planned for 4.33.1 to be a small incremental patch for 4.33. As a result of the changes described above, this will not be possible. Instead, 4.33.1 will be a complete from-scratch installer. You will have to use this to make a fresh install of Falcon BMS. That install will be separate and independent from any other you may already have on your system.
Now we have arrived at a solution which is acceptable for all parties I believe it is hoped we will be able to provide any additional updates, should they be necessary, in the usual way. What actually happens though we’ll just have to wait and see. This is Falcon BMS and you never know if there’s something around the corner… just be grateful if there is.
