AA-Radar, RWS, yellow arrows
-
Hello,
can anyone tell me what the double-yellow-arrows on the aa-radar (rws) are meaning? I can’t select them if they are shown alone (without the white square) like in my example-picture.Best regards,

jamming target. You get azimuth but the radar cannot get the range until it burns through it, thus you cannot lock
-
Means there is a contact there with his jammer on. You can eventually burn through to lock the contact. You can also ‘Spot light’ scan (hold TMS up) to try to burn through sooner. Those contacts are said to be ‘strobing’ …. brevity for contact with jammer on.

-
They are contacts with active jammer. When you are close enough to break through the jammer you can have the square simbol to lock.
-
Just in case he didn’t get it the first 3 times; They’re jamming targets. When you get close enough, you can burn through the jamming and lock on to them.
-
I could be wrong, but I THINK they are jamming targets. Maybe. But I’m not sure.
-
Don’t worry Knthrak, no dumb questions just dumb answers.
-
Besides what others wrote already, I don’t know if it helps,
but I try to set the azimuth and bar scan to one, change the height of the scan area until I see the jammer again (this way you can already guesstimate its altitude), and also use ULS.I’m not sure if this settings help to burn through, it depends also on the jammer and his azimuth but atleast I have the feeling that I get the target info faster.

That’s too complicated. I find my AMRAAMs and set HOJ.

I don’t think HOJ works

I do.

I do.
I’d be inclined to agree with Wolf on this one, all though I admittedly don’t know enough either way. I can only say that in a dogfight when someone has been using ECM I have fired a HOJ AMRAAM and had it hit - but that may only be because I fired it in their general direction and it acted like a BORE fired missile.
-
So I guess it is a contact with a jammer?
Thank you all for your help! Unbelievable quick responses.
@Blu3wolf: Sorry…I did search, but my keyword was “yellow arrow” (without the “s”) and unfortunately nothing valuable was returned. Next time I try both versions.
-
Well, as long as you searched first I guess its alright then! : D
I guess this once more highlights how it would be good to have a public source -1 and -34 series of manuals - normally there would be an interjection here about Red Dog’s Dash One but I think his excellent work actually omits reference to those confounding yellow chevrons.
-
I interesting and I would like to know for sure. I am sure maddog works and will hit friend or foe.

I can certainly confirm that using HOJ at unidentified yellow chevrons can result in a friendly kill. But weather from maddog or HOJ capability, not sure. Someone should test this, regrettably I bought my first house and am in the process of moving or I would do it myself.
-
well, if you set up 2 contacts, one strobing and one not, and fire at the non jamming contact but drop the lock before husky, and the missile goes for the jamming contact, then HOJ would be implemented : )
If the missile misses entirely or (somehow manages to) hits the non emitting contact, that would suggest that HOJ is not implemented.
Still certain that HOJ is implemented though.

CERTAINLY HOJ works…

Search by all means, but as BMS gets updated, some of the answers previously given before the updates may need updating as older answers may be revision specific.
