SA 15 in EWR in Iron Fotress campaign question
-
I have been flying for 5 days and have continuously seen SA15’s highlighted in the EWR tracking me (usually alternating with Missile tracking symbols) yet have never had 1 fire on me and I am flying missions at the usual altitudes (22k 25k etc). Is this just a fluke in program? I am using veteran level btw.

Hi!
Try to fly lower altitude … and report for results.
-
Also, review the TACRef.
-
dumb me I did look at Tacref, but apparently somehow did not read correctly. I have been below the 19K ceiling too but still not hit. But thank you.
-
why do you want to get hit?

why do you want to get hit?
to feel wanted? lol I was just curious as to whether this was a malfunction in the program.

Maybe they’re waiting for a higher pK shot. Try over-flying at ~8000 - 10000 ….
-
I also seen them locking me on frequently and also none of them fired.
However SA-15 is a sucker. They are not effective against F-16 so they don’t want to waste missiles.
They have very limited range and altitude. Much like SA-8 and Tunguska’s.
They are a serious threat for helos and hogs, but not so much for viper. -
SA-15 is very dangerous when you fly low enough to be in its engagement range. It is more dangerous in the current version of BMS than it was in the past.

Yea sa-15’s are lethal think i was flying at about 15k when i got whacked by one. Within seconds of getting a launch warning i was toast.

Yes, this bitch is fast, but the range is so low.
And flying above 20 k feet seems to be quite safe. -

This system can engage all kinds of modern air targets. …… It destroys targets that long- and medium-range air defense systems fail to hit. … Maximum range of fire is 5-12 km and maximum altitude is 4-6 km, depending on the target speed.
The 9K331 Tor [SA-15 GAUNTLET land-based, SA-N-9 naval version] low-to-medium altitude SAM system is capable of engaging not only aircraft and helicopters but also RPVs, precision-guided weapons and various types of guided missiles. …. Effective range limits are from 1500 to 12000 m with target altitude limits being between 10 and 6000 m.
The Tor missile system (Russian: “Тор”; English: torus[1]) is an all-weather low to medium altitude, short-range surface-to-air missile system designed for engaging airplanes, helicopters, cruise missiles, precision guided munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles and short-range ballistic threats (Anti-Munitions). ….
That’s what’s it designed to do and BMS has a reasonable model of it.
Maybe you’d be more satisfied flying against SA-11’s and SA-17’s, or for a longer range threat, SA-10’s.
