Norway Theater - Lets do it!

Im very happy Chuckles that this is still alive! Bravo. Can’t wait also!!! Can i ask if you did brush and tree-up the terrain? I remembere i was experimenting with it but i didnt had time to do a good job….
Manos, I haven’t really touched any of the terrain’s visuals. I have been working exclusively on the campaign. Maybe, after Beta 1 release, I might come back to the terrain and do some of those touch ups.
-
Once the above issues have been taken care of, I will host a Beta 1.0 download link.
Yum yum,
just can’t await. With best regards,

The campaign set up for a late 1990’s to 2005 timescale. The pretense is that Finland has been invaded by Russia. NATO forces (Blue Team) mission is to attrition Russian ground armour and aircraft from the Finnish homeland. The FLOT is set up near the border of Norway and Finland.

Been off computer for some time, but it is all very promising! Joining the ‘I can’t wait’ club at once A few questions:
Is it possible to move the U95 jammer pod of the Viggen (which in 4.33 U1 still is on the wrong pylon) to the right one? Not only a question of realism, but also functional: in the base install you have to choose between the extra tank - which in real life is almost always present, due to the somewhat thirsty habits of the Viggen, and the jammer pod. In real life you can have both, on the expense of an A2A missile.
Is the Gripen on the UI pictures only eye-candy or is it part of the theater?
Keep on the good work!

There could be some room for Finnish Drakens, which were retired in 2000… Oh wait, Finland has been invaded in this scenario.

It’s just a really good UI picture for now. That being said, after a release the Nordic Theatre, I will take some time away from Falcon developing. At a later date, I will revisit Norway. Who knows what I will do then, the UI page may not be more than just eye candy when I start work on a modern 2016 campaign.

Is there some Gripen LOD available? I have old Toareg’s LOD somewhere (I have used it in AF). There were at least two various Gripen LODs in FFx IIRC. I preserved old FF5 database on my HDD because of these LODs for a long time, but it is cleared now.
So have you got something usefull (even lowpoly)? Toareg’s LOD is not very vell shaped in some areas….
-
FF didn’t use LOD’s, but DXM files. They must be converted to work in BMS. I do have those files, got them from SAAFOPS to use in FreeFalcon. They can be used in BMS with permission. Screenshot is taken in FF.
In the mean time: an aircraft that needs less fiddling to use in BMS: the main files are in the install already and just have to be ‘awakened’. These are screenshots from my install (stock Korea), with the help of cloud9:

Yes I understand ETR has been exceeded; this is a reason I don’t like making promises for a release date. That being said, it is probably a good time for me to give everybody an update.
As of right now, I have a Release Candidate Version (RC1) in small scale beta testing. My co-developer, Vagabonds64, is doing the final beta testing for the campaign in single player mode. He has found a few issues that missed my eyes that we are correcting as we go. Vags has said he has really enjoyed the attrition campaign and found it very engaging and a lot of fun. Once I have the single player aspects ironed out, Norway will go into multiplayer beta testing. Once all of the minor issues have been addressed, I will issue a version 1.0. TomCatz has been kind enough to allow me to host the upload link once we feel that Norway has been completed to our satisfaction. At that time, he will begin work on the terrain, 3D data etc.
While I am issuing updates, I want to speak more about our campaign and how it works. As all of you know, Korea is primarily a land grab type of campaign. The way Joe Pilot wins the campaign is by his own armored ground units securing Primary Cities and Secondary towns whose OCD numbers are recorded in the trigger files.
In Norway, the trigger file is set up in a manner where the winning side needs to attrition ground and air units below a certain ratio. The ground/air units from either side are set as a very specific ratio which favors the enemy side. Furthermore, the parties at war have different equipment quality difference. By adjusting the unit equipment ratio and quality allows me to manipulate the campaign length. ATM, I am doing the final tweaking in order for Joe Pilot to get the desired campaign length.
In another theater thread, a poster asked when Guam will be finally released. I wanted to mention that Norway’s campaign came directly from Guam. I just modified Demer928’s PvP force ratios and trigger files in order to make it a good single player versus AI campaign. As per Demer928’s request, once I get the campaign ratios/quality perfected, on a separate thread I will publically release all of my campaign work along with the trigger file on this board. In this manner, Demer928, Vagabonds64 and I hope other developers will be able to successfully replicate our campaign model in their own theaters.

It sounds very promtedor. Good luck with the great work you are doing, and hopefully looking forward the publication of the theater, when you consider that it is in proper development.
Thanks for the update

Nice to see you are still around Mike. I’m looking around the site seeing what has been going on, looking for something really promising and useful to contribute. Looks like a lot of neat things have been developed. I may start with some skinning just to ease back into things and then see what develops from there. There is always something to do in Falcon -

The Nordic Theatre presently is continuing in Multiplayer beta test. During this testing several issues of note were discovered by the pilots concerning radio frequencies and the lack of ILS at airports. Starrats has been kind enough to go through the theatre files and repair many of the unseen elements of the theatre. He was also able to add radio and ILS frequencies to all usable airports. The ILS frequencies were added to the edited knee map chart. Starrats also added selectable ub 8 rockets to mig29S. So now, Nordic Theatre’s Mig 29S are able to perform ro9cket attacks like the real world. With these changes along with others not mentioned, Starrats improved the theatre stability.
