Newb: Please help with throttle from ramp start.

4.33.U1
I can’t move the throttle back or forward I have power/20% to the F16.
I have clicked the lever (I assume is idle intent) via mouse…I tried holding right mouse button and move it forward or back… nothing
I have searched the key commands and is says throttle forward, back, full, etc by
Ctrl+alt (and corresponding arrow key) which only flips the screen upside down, and sideways nothing to do with throttle.
I would like to know keys, and mouse on how to function the throttle please.
I AM sorry this is very newbie and may have been asked 1,000x I have searched threads but all I can find is idle intent command (alt+i) and joystick ,but nothing about moving it forward or back on a qaurtery keyboard and been looking through to youtube/in game manuals to get my beginner info but this particular issue I can’t find.

I believe ALt-I is the default idle detent key command. However the clickable lever-switch should also work.
After the engine has spooled to ~20%, move the HOTAS Throttle forward appox 1/2 to 3/4, then hit the idle detent key/switch. Throttle in the pit should move forward. Once RMPs are spooling, you should be able to move it back to the idle position.
Also, before engine start, be sure you’re in then second BATT position.

Tha yes the problem I’m having its spooled up to 20 got battery on even tried it in main power. I’ve clicked the Idle intent once, twice, three times can’t move it. By HOTAS I assume you mean a joystick (I do not have) it won’t move with the mouse it won’t move with key board input (I’m assuming is wrong) cause Ctrl+alt arrows doesn’t move it it just twist my screen pov
-
If you don’t have a HOTAS or controller of some kind, I don’t know how to tell you to move the throttle. Should be some key combination, but I have no idea what.
-
I found in key commands throttle is Ctrl+alt and arrow keys. It’s doesn’t do throttle it flips the screen uupside down. Is there anyone using key board/mouse have any ideas ?.

I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone in this community that is flying with ONLY the mouse and keyboard. I think everyone here has some sort of joystick or controller. Are you sure you got the right key command? Which keyfile are you using?
Also just as a note…the battery switch should be set to main power prior to JFS Start 2.

get a 20$ logitech 3d
then move the throttle
i don’t like to say “you have to spend money to play this game” but you have to pretty much spend at least a little money to play this game. you can’t play a sim without at least a stick, and trying is basically a waste of time.

Yeah I was beginning to think so…probably be a lot better. Remember it became a problem back when I played Lock on trying to air refuel using arrow keys is like surgery

I’ve been flying forever with an ancient Saitek st-290 stick and a Logitech game pad with analog stick, a la PlayStation controller… Have never had room for a Hotas so this has worked perfectly
-
I was thinking about that since I will have to wait to get a HOTAS …is there any way you can point me in the right direction to get it to work with let’s say a xbox controller like do you know any videos or a thread to get a gamepad to work ?

Go through the ramp start and then move the throttle forward a little before ALT-I to act as the idle indent. Check the keyboard mapping - I think the default is = for increasing throttle and - for decreasing (on a UK keyboard at least). Works be me every-time.
I have never used an XBOX controller - although I have used a keyboard when I am on my laptop and away from home - but that has been more about trying things out rather than actual flying.

X8, first, welcome to BMS. The only suggestion I can add to what’salready been said is reassign the key command to a single key. BMS is quirky with combo commands like the control+alt+arrow one you say is in your keyfile.
To be honest, let me “add to the chorus” and suggest you’ll be a lot happier with a HOTAS. -
this is the bms full config but if this is giving you problems you can change it to what ever you want
this sim is really hard to fly without some joystick. xbox controller, I don’t think it works. -
The idle detent click (or key) works on the idea that you move the throttle axis very high and then do the command to move from OFF to working range. To move from working range back to OFF you move the throttle as low as possible first and then click idle detent.
This is a little weird way of thinking. The idle detent command looks to your throttle axis position first and this determines what action to do. So to get the throttle lever out of the OFF position you might push the throttle axis (and the animated handle in 3D) to 100% and then click the idle detent. The throttle will animate all the way forward but it’s not really there, it’s still back at OFF. So the game will look “OK, he pressed idle detent; where is the throttle axis? 100? He must want to leave the OFF position.” Similarly to move back to OFF you must put the throttle axis to a very low value first and then click idle detent. It’s impossible to switch back to OFF unless the throttle axis is about 0%.
So next time you start, advance the throttle to 100% (it doesn’t have to be but 100% will always work) with the keyboard key for that action (whatever AFThrottleUp and AFThrottleDown are bound to), and then click the idle detent. Remember to return the throttle axis back to idle before the RPM gets too high though.

Sorry for late reply. I did end up figuring out how to move it (very slowly) with Shift+Alt and the arrow keys. I have progressed much further since this thread and realise how much a pain in the d*** it is to play without a HOTAS but have to wait before buying one. So for now I’m shift’ing+ctrl’ing+alt’ing my way through every learning curve (^_^) and been doing some what ok for this handicap… I should feel a lot more free by time I buy one. Thank you every one for your help. This forum,Krauses youtube and manual have been 100
