Read “And Kills Migs…” by Lou Drendel which is a collection of first hand accounts of the US air victories over SEA. A good book, but where in my youth I first came across the bullseye concept.

I wonder how/when the bullseye location is set/changed…

Very simple. A map of the theater of operations is taped to the wall. Daily, the ops chief throws a dart… and a new bullseye is born.

But seriously though. I’m interested to hear the reasoning behind where to put it
-
It’s set as a easily-recongizable landmark… maybe a city or a mountain, that way, it’s easy for pilots to visualize. As to which city or mountain or landmark is chosen for a particular day, I’m not sure. Maybe the dart idea is a valid one

In Rl multiple bullseyes are used over a larger theater.
How many and how far appart would be interesting to know.

Multiple bullseye used simultaneously during the same day?? Won’t that be confusing?

Yes. And yes…

1° @ 60Nm = 1Nm

I’m not at the point where I can quickly work out where a target is, relative to me using bullseye without using the HSD. I usually set the bullseye to within a few nm of my target for ease. It’s easy when you’re God in single player

When the enemy is listening you… Shhhhhh, they could spy us right now! Shhhhhhhhhh, keep it secret

You are not the only one. It takes time and some IFR knowledge to get a bloody idea to use it…

IFR knowledge? Bullseye calls are only bearing and distance from bullseye, ie “Bullseye 090, 50 miles” so you know exactly where it is in relation to bullseye. If you were bullseye 270, 20 miles, you’d know the target is 70 miles to your right.
