Troll on!

abbreviation is lacking indeed. That’s because most of us know them and we’re aware that we need a abbreviation index. We’ll work on that in the future but it’s also harder to work on it while it’s WIP (hey, that means Work in progress )
That said, it’s not rocket science. The forums are full of abbreviations too and nobody cry for a listBUT AD1 is only mentioned ONCE in the training - Zero times in the full manual
That is incorrect and unfair and although I will happily accept any critics about the manual, I am not going to let pass false facts about them:
As stated in the BMS training manual:
This document is not intended to explain how the BMS aircraft systems work.
The F-16 and its systems are explained in the BMS Dash-1 (TO-BMS1F-16CM-1) manual.
Weapon employment procedures are explained in the BMS Dash-34 (TO-BMS1F-16CM-34-1-1).
These documents should be read before flying the training missions.
The purpose of this document is to link both -1 & -34 with specific scenarios,
tying all the documentation together. And by following that logic. AD is explained in full term in the dash 1 page 83
SMS A-G Control page
While the CNTL page is displayed OSB #5 remains highlighted.
The top & bottom OSB lines are the same as the main SMS page. What is of interest is the left line of OSB buttons (#16 to 20) and OSB #6 to the right, which give access to 5 different weapon settings: C1, C2, C3, C4 and LADD.
C1 (OSB #20) is relevant to General Purpose weapons or Laser guided weapons and provides two different arming delays. One for the NOSE fuse and the second for the TAIL fuse. Depress OSB #20 to enter a subpage where both timings can be set.
C2 is relevant to Cluster Bomb Units or any weapon requiring a Burst Altitude (BA). Pressing OSB #19 will enter a SMS subpage where both the arming delay and the burst altitude can be set.
C3 is an additional setting for CBUs, with the same Arming Delay (AD) and Burst Altitude (BA) options as C2.
C4 is specifically for double fused CBUs. On this page AD1, AD2 and BA can be set.
LADD stands for Low Altitude Drogue Delivery and although OSB #6 has a profile for it, it is currently not implemented in BMS.
OSB #10 is the setting for the planned release angle. This value is required by the computer to calculate the correct symbology for DTOS deliveries.
As you can see the abbreviations ARE explained. They are just not in the training manual because it’s not the purpose of the training manual. They are though in the dash1 because it’s the purpose of the dash one
So the manual suite is pretty coherent if you give it a bit of thinking to understand the logic and the philosophy of how they are tying together.
And by the way, it’s the exact same issue in the real documentations - you have to work in different manuals and understand the way they are supposed to be used together -
OSB is actually not explained as far as I can see either
Wrong again - Dash-1 Page 76
The MFDs are the two displays situated on the front dash featuring 20 pushbuttons and four rocker switches on each. Both displays are independent. MFDs are powered by the MFD switch on the AVIONICS POWER panel on the right side console.
The push buttons are called Option Selection Buttons (OSB) and are numbered from 1 to 20, starting at the left button of the top row and moving clockwise to the top button of the left row.
The function of the button changes according to the displayed page and the button’s legend is displayed next to the button.Just make sure that what you’re saying is correct because I will always try to prove it otherwise
Regarding the OP main issue, I have no idea what the problem is. We have tested that training TE often (and including using AP) and we never had the reported issue. So it’s either a bug or a user problem.
That Te has been proven working ok by many users. -
As if I could retain all the info in the Dash…Get real. Alot of it has no context.
I said the training manual and I ment the training manual = true
I realize this was a labor of love and all of you are volunteers, but no one in their right mind memorizes the Dash.“BUT AD1 is only mentioned ONCE in the training - Zero times in the full manual”
That is incorrect and unfair and although I will happily accept any critics about the manual, I am not going to let pass false facts about them:First and second pass through the training manual: Dash Exact same AD1= mentioned but NO Explanation or context.
AD is mentioned, but AD1 is NOT. I finally found it, but wasted 1/2 hour. All these suggestions for checking the “training manual” are
not constructive. I keep reading this everytime I ask a question, and it is NOT helpful. I look in the manuals thoroughly before I ask a question. -
Hey gents there is no conflict:(! Our friend glmccready is right; all these manuals are confusing for a noob! And as you correctly mentioned Red Dog about abbreviation "That’s because most of us know them "…It’s ok we 've all been in that situation years ago…!Keep trying glmccready you are in the right pathway…Sometimes we all need (SIM and real life )a “Back to basics” course…;). Regarding the main issue I believe (still not sure) the problem was the uncaged MAV before RDY.
-
Nevermind, if you can’t make a tiny effort to try to find the info in the manuals, chances are that trying to master a study sim will be a loss of time
Luckily you at least made one constructive criticism: the lack of abbreviation index, all the rest IMHo is just excuses. -
Not confusing? lol I am a dentist (retired), and of superior intelligence, and (usually) memory. I flew the original Falcon for years. If I ask for help I need help, not criticism. My eyesight is poor at the moment, and I can’t drive. I have encephalopathy, it ain’t fun, but it has been a part of my life for 40 years.
Figured I delve into this Falcon thing once again. Try and get the grey matter back on track. The suggestions to read the TRAINING manual are NOT helpful. I try and fly the training missions, step by step along with the excellent Krause vids, freezing and switching windows constantly. Spending hours looking up things that searching in the manuals, you can not easily find.RTFM is a poor excuse and answer to a specific question! It shows a level of maturity that I’m not in the mood or condition to tolerate.
Perhaps I should just look for a more tolerant group in which to ask my questions, since this GUY, Red Dog, is a moderator. Dude wrote the manual,
obviously HE understands everything he is saying. -
@Red:
Manuals are not confusing. You guys are confused because you don’t want to make the effort to RTFM
Manuals are making it easier to try to master a difficult things
2 years ago there was no manual, ppl were complaining for a right reason
now we have manuals and some ppl are still complaining for a bad reason - well some always will complain, there is not much we can do about thatWell mastering a F-16 study flight sim is not easy and is not for everyone.
If you can’t find your way in the current documentation suite, then you (and we trying to help you) are loosing your timeRTFM are done for a reason.
We aim to guide you through it, but if all you’re interested in is pissing on the manuals because you personally can’t use them, then you step over the border line of the ppl who can’t be helped.
We provided the effort to write the manuals. Granted they’re not perfect. Now it’s your turn to make a tiny effort in return to try to understand the way to use the mass of information laid it out to you.
That will help you to enjoy for free the hardwork from the BMS dev, hardwork they provided you for free.
All we ask is a tiny effort compared to the huge efforts we made. And all you can say is that manuals are not helpfull? How ungrateful and arrogant. Especially after having quoted the manuals answering the items of interest.Luckily you at least made one constructive criticism: the lack of abbreviation index.
Red dog; I didn’t say that the manuals are not helpfull.I said that they maybe are a little bit cofusing for e new BMS pilot like our friend. I am grateful for these manuals and I thing same is glmccready , for all the hardwork end efforts you made.Let’s end it here.

FYI: For those of you that are interested I found the ANSWER:
There are Time Limits on the AGM-65 of 60 min power on and 30 min Video on. Yes, it is in the manual, but really, who reads and remembers all that.I only noticed because Jetlag suggested Supranova’s vid and it was mentioned, at about the 4 min mark. (good suggestion, man)
Since I was in “training” and following along on a Youtube video I would constantly freeze the jet and check settings. I was setting things up and double checking everything. Of course, the harder I tried to do EXACTLY as was in the manual and in the Kraus 38 min video the longer it took each time. So my hour was up!
And the reason for the fail…apparently AGM was running out of power. I had Auto power on a fews times, but a few times not. The last fail I had it on, but still ran out of time, I think it was home made Christmas Cookies time.
And problem DUPLICATED!
Mission Completed…twice now!
For those that tried to help = THANKS
For those that just say RTFM with NO constructive help criticism = FAILIt is NOT that I don’t appreciate the time and effort that go into the Documents, but just saying “read the manual” without any page of reference is worse than worthless.

–> Yes, it is in the manual, but really, who reads and remembers all that.
Okay, I’ll just go ahead and say what most of you are thinking– I’m really tired of his whining.
“…but really, who reads and remembers all that…” I guess that superior intelligence of yours isn’t helping a whole lot, then? But to answer your question– I would venture that most all of us read about Mavs timer limitations. I bet most of use even remembered it. At least I did. And I’m sure I don’t have near the superior intelligence you do, since I wasn’t a doctor or rocket scientist or whatever… (I’m still trying to figure out why it was important for you to let all of us inferior intelligence yokels know that you used to be a dentist. I’m not sure what skills that would bring to the cockpit-- how to quickly extract out of the pit, maybe?)
Like the help, don’t want the criticism… Pretty hypocritical– If you can’t take it, why are you so quick and free to offer it?
…Poor me, I’ve got a WHOLE BUNCH of things wrong with me… Got news for you, buddy– there are literally thousands of people flying Falcon, and EVERY ONE OF THEM is fighting their own life battles, not just you-you-you.
I’m thinking maybe Falcon BMS really isn’t for you. Could the manuals be better? Sure! Are they extremely informative and helpful as they are right now? Well, for many years now, hundreds of other Falcon flyers (except you) seem to be getting by using them and are pretty good flyers, too, from my MP experience.
About Red Dog-- let me tell you about what little I know about him… He has spent literally thousands of unpaid hours over the years working on these manuals for you. He’s apparently going to spend thousands of more unpaid hours in the future doing the same– for you. Every time he issues an updated edition, I (and many others like me) go over it with a fine-tooth comb and advise him of every little nit-picking factual, grammatical, or syntax error. There’s even a special thread set up for us to do that. And every single time, he reads them, evaluates them, and corrects them. Sometimes, though, he corrects me (and others). But he has always been extremely patient with the feedback and even appears to appreciate it. So tell me– how much (unpaid) time have YOU spent in your entire poor-ol-me life helping other Falcon flyers improve their knowledge and skills? Bet I know the answer. So why don’t you cut him some slack, Mr. Dentist?
Perhaps I should just look for a more tolerant group in which to ask my questions
Strongly agree. Perhaps you should. Good luck, though, finding anyone who will tolerate your negativity and whining.
Miller time. I’m RTB. (I guess you’ll have to read the manual to figure that one out).

-
Let’s make this personal? Didn’t even read past the 1st line…ignored! I’m sure most of you are not like that??
-
-
- I try and fly the training missions, step by step along with the excellent Krause vids, freezing and switching windows constantly. - -
Please note that there’s a difference between freezing and pausing BMS: when frozen, the sim is standing still but time keeps running (in this case, the Mavericks will run out of power although the sim is kind of paused). When paused, the sim is paused completely (time stopped too, Mavericks do not run out of power while paused). These two commands have their own keystrokes (Freeze and Pause). Which one have you been using?
-
-
I’m SMRT and this is hard… etc., etc.
You need to take a step back. All of us have been in your position at one time and have spent hundreds of hours learning the sim – usually starting with reading the manuals. Everyone responds with a reference to the manuals because 95% of this shit is in there. Don’t understand something? Try googling it (here’s the first hit i got when i googled OSB F-16 falcon) or coming back to it later. You can’t expect to take it all in at once, even with a superior intellect like yours.
No one can hand-feed you through this and the manuals cannot be written to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Getting snarky and saying “who can possibly read/understand/remember all this shit” in a group with hundreds of guys who have and do, is obviously going to put people off and get you some short responses.
Try and go easy on all us imbeciles.

I found my own answer, it wasn’t in Goggle or the documents! It had to do with “freezing” and running out of time. The Auto timer also restarted because I flew too far West.
You find this anywhere in the manual? Only obtusely. Also NOT in the Manual: Ask a question, get ABUSED in the Forums!
I’m a pretty resourceful, and intelligent guy. Normally only 0.4% of you are smarter than me, only 3% are richer, and few are tougher. I am a dentist, multi-millionaire, a 3rd degree black belt, and taught martial arts for 22 years.
NOW is not a normal time! I am here for the same reason I played Falcon 4 nearly 20 years ago. I have had a major relapse of Hashimoto’s Encephalopathy. I AM having trouble with my eyesight, fine motor skills, and (YES) short term memory. Can’t drive, can’t walk a straight line.
I was trying to have a little fun! I am still a rich ****, and employ 85 people.
I thought I could get some help for a mission. Instead I keep getting answered with “RTFM”. No page numbers, no reference, just give the noob so much shit he will never return! For those of you who really tried to help, I am very grateful. This might be the game for me, but this is sure not the place to ask questions.
Lesson learned!
Go ahead jump on, easy target! Hit the noob when he is down. -
Not confusing? lol I am a dentist (retired), and of superior intelligence, and (usually) memory.
Now I wonder what’s the connection between dentist and superior intelligence? That’s just preposterous. I worked in the forest and I’m gonna train in organic growing, does that mean I am of inferior intelligence by your standard?
You’re basically insulting people, and still, you expect help? Now you sound like a douchebag teenager.
I can be moderated or banned, I don’t give a **** about that, but you sound like an egocentric asshole (I was gonna say son of a bitch but your mother does not deserve that).

Ok gents, I’m closing this.
@All : no point in mocking people - no matter how tempting they make it by bragging about their accomplishments.
@OP : first of all, the answers WERE in the manual, and the how-to-use the manuals is explained. Indeed, it is possible to miss something or not memorize everything, and the manuals are not perfect (what is) but the info was there. And there are tutorial videos out there for 4.32 & 4.33.
Second, if you complain that you cant find info easily on those manual, familiarize yourself with the search function on your pdf reader, that should be helpful.
Third, if you go in here all arrogant, bragging about your superior intelligence & al. , dont be surprized if people are going to mock you…. especially if you cant be bothered to look in 2 different pdfs…
And finally, you are the one who is going off and losing its temper. No matter how right you are, insulting people isnt going to helpful answers. So consider yourself warned.
