HOTAS Cougar Vs Windows 10
-
The ministick does work, the seller just mentioned that he believed it doesn’t work right out of the box, that it needed some setup. I can definitely calibrate it.
I would have to program the cougar ssc though using foxy? The default profile that comes with bms won’t work? I guess I really wanted to avoid all that programming stuff.
I like that for my x52 I just downloaded a profile, followed the directions, and everything was good. Then I made a few changes with the falcon bms game, and it rocks.
Oh, and thanks Habu for all of this information. It is really helpful.
-
Any profile will work. The amount of customization is up to user.
-
Its the software to program the buttons on the cougar.
I used Foxy before, is TARGET easier??
A bit rusty here, where to store my previous FCC2 calibration .ccf file, so I can load it through CCP ??
-
TARGET is probably somewhat easier to master and will serve to program both the Warthog and Cougar buttons.
-
To which HOTAS folder I have to copy my previous FCC2 calibration .ccf file, so I can load it through CCP ??
Thx Habu, appreciate your help.
-
iirc, there is a registry entry created for those calibration files so just drag and drop won’t work. Easiest (no registry edits) would probably be to create a new calibration and save it. Then rename your old calibration file to the new name and drag it in C:\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\calib and overwrite the existing file.
-
That’s exactly what I already tried to do, but … there is no HOTAS/Calib folder anymore.
Now I’ve searched the whole C:/ drive and found it, it’s here … C:\Users\Vordy\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\calib
So, like TrackIR, also the HOTAS .ccf files are stored in a different folder than usual.
I’ve copied the old .ccf in that folder as well, but no selection pOssibility in CCP. Only the active .ccf shows up
-
Like I said, the registry is involved. Create a new calibration and follow what I explained in the post above. Just change the folder in which you will drag the file to the one you mentioned.
If you want to do it the registry way, you have to find the correct subkey and add your old calibration.

What is DX Input. I just purchased a used Cougar that is in Mint like new condition. i have my Warthog and Win 10 with my Crosswinds and everything runs like a champ. Just wondering how the Cougar will respond once it lands. I simply wanted the F16 Model for BMS is all. Please excuse my ignorance but what is DX Input? 11 years later now I am asking you from the time this was stated.

Installed the Win10 creators update yesterday and my Hotas viewer suddenly CTD-d (you know, the screen you get to from USB Game Controllers). Solved it so thought I’d give a heads up for anyone who might have the same problem. The solution is simple, analogous to all the other tools, go to the Hotas directory in your Program Files (x86) and edit properties of the Hotas Viewer tool (red icon). Set compatibility to Windows Vista SP2 and check the Run in Administrator option -> Happy Hotas

Hi! Thanks for this invaluable information. I have the same issue now and have been looking for a solution. You made my day!

when you guys are reflashing the Cougar, make sure the TQS is unplugged, else risk bricking the Cougar
-
hey guys
has anyone encountered a device detection error after the installation?edit-disregard
Hi, b_bong12.
My reply is quite late. But maybe it will help others having the same problem in the future. I have my Cougar running under Win10. But from time to time i get this device detection error. I then do a right klick on “start” (windows symbol)-> left klick on “settings” -> left klick on “devices”. Besides others this listing usually shows “Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar”. Just a right klick on this and then left klick on “remove device”.
After disconnecting and reconnecting the HOTAS Cougar to the USB port, it usually will be reinstalled and fully functional again. Sometimes i do have to do these steps two times. But it never failed for me until now.Best regards,
LunarO

This is correct subkey.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Thrustmaster\HOTAS Cougar\CalibrationFiles
Just name your .ccf under some next number in row.
But, maybe, you also need to edit hotas.ini in that ‘\virtualstore’ directory to point to your ccf . , and of of course copy your .ccf file there ‘\calib’ , and then don’t run HOTASConfig as Admin, or it will use ‘\Program Files\HOTAS\…’ rather then ‘…\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\calib’
so it wont read right HOTAS.ini. ,…
Yes there are 2 of them , one in Program Files (this one is used if you run as Asmin), and one in Virtual Store … this one used when ran as normal user. (That all is because of Windows UAC tech…, so if you turn that thing off it will use/and write to ‘Program Files’ only ,… no Virtualstore anymore)Say if it worked.

Sorry guys but please clear out for the firmware update when you say: have the trigger depressed while you connect the USB to the PC you mean what exactly?
You mean do not have the trigger pressed?
OR
You mean have the trigger pressed?
depressed doesn’t mean anything for this is not making sense and is way confusing for newbs.
So please reply as I got confused also trying to help a newb and please update - correct your posts please so that future readers will not get confused also.
-
pressed
depress means push something down into a lower position so the instructions are fine as to the use of the verb -
ok not actually for ppl that are not native English speakers… cause for depressed:
1. “(of a person) in a state of general unhappiness or despondency.”
2. “make (someone) feel utterly dispirited or dejected.”
3. “push or pull (something) down into a lower position.”
1. and 2. are the no sense… in 3 what? Push or Pull? so there comes the confusion…

update: went to Control Panel/ Device Manager and update my cougar driver from C drive, everything working perfect ( so far) . Did not have to reinstate Sttubedevice203.dll
Thank you very much for this one.
I had the same problem and your solution is the perfect fix here!
Cheers, :yo:

Just a clarification on the update driver from control panel.
u must select the Browse my computer for drivers and point to the folder where the drivers are
which is
C:\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\driversU must do this for
Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (IN)
AND
Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar (OUT)
