Bubonic plague in south Pyongyang?
-
I’m now in day 6 in my Rolling Fire campaign (4.32.7) and the allied forces have everything from Wonsan in the East to Pyongyang in the West, with our air assets operating out of the former North Korean airbases at Wonsan, Koksan, Haeju, Ongjin, Hyon-Ni and Kuum-ni. We pretty much own the place though there are some small pockets of resistance here and there, such as a long lost forgotten SA-2 battalion at Kwail Air Base.
We occupy everything around Pyongyang……except South Pyongyang. And of course, South Pyongyang is the trigger for the campaign victory.
No matter what I do, I cannot get any of the troops to capture South Pyongyang. I’ve used Mission Commander, unchecked the Set HQ flag and set the objectives to capture South Pyongyang for all my US and ROK Armor and Mech Battalions that are positioned around and in North Pyongyang as well as to the immediate south at one of the intersections.
But it is to no avail. When I fast forward at 16x, 32x or 64x, all those units who ought to be moving INTO South Pyongyang all are being tasked to go defend some crap hole far, far away from Pyongyang?
So there is a plague going on or some fallout of a nuclear blast or any other darn reason to have my troops defy my orders to finally get this campaign over and done with?If even going into Mission Commander doesn’t help, what can I do to finally capture South Pyongyang???
-
Same with 433.3 but that just my experience that I have assumed is due to many squadrons set non hq resulting in far fewer flights per day. This being a 24/7 server. Before giving up I’ve saved and run it offline all restored to hq but days pass with no end or progress.
-
I’m not sure if flight activity is related to my issue. Plenty of squadrons are generating a lot of flights and I do fly every so many hours as well.
If I fast forward the campaign, I do see plenty of allied ground forces moving into North Pyongyang, moving around South Pyongyang and moving across through the general area but none of them actually progress INTO South Pyongyang. And I believe this is the only reason why my campaign hasn’t finished yet.
But every time I manually command a unit to just capture South Pyongyang - either in the Falcon UI or through Mission Commander (and yes I turn Set by HQ off for those units), they just ignore me, do their own thing and just decide to march off into ANY area that’s not South Pyongyang.

Is there a non broken link in MC between your troops and this area? That could save you from a Pandemic game with Kim.
-
It does look like it but how do I check for that in MC?

Mission Commander, Map, Show Links box, Show all Links box.

I think links are ok, but there might be a problem with paths on tiles. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we will work on fixing it for the next update.

I’ve been looking at this all evening now and I do actually have units in the yellow-marked urban area of South Pyongyang. But they all seem to be be unable to actually GET to the red dot that marks South Pyongyang in order to capture it.
At 16x, 32x and 64x, I can see units moving towards South Pyongyang, they enter the area but then stagnate. After a while they move away again. So I think this is a tile/pathing issue whereby the ground forces have no way of getting to the objective to capture it. Same applies to the South Pyongyang Bridge. I have troops in the north (that being Pyongyang City and East Pyongyang City, both are ROK-held and blue). I can assign troops to go to these places and they’ll go there. But if I then move the objective circle over either the South Pyongyang Bridge or South Pyongyang City…. nothing. Well that’s not true, they move forward a bit. Then have a sit and think. And then they obviously get reassigned to go somewhere north or south and just wonder off… or they just go into the Defend mode. All of this with the Set by HQ flag OFF.
As I’ve won it but I can’t win it, can someone please tell me how I can change the ownership of South Pyongyang to ROK/US? If I try to do this in MC, Falcon just ignores it and it keeps showing red in the Falcon campaign UI. I’ve also deleted the Objective Delta records but still nothing. I change the ownership of South Pyongyang to ROK, Save it but it just gets changed back to DPRK again?
So now I’m stuck with a never ending campaign… how can I get this to become a victory?
Update: Just had another look and ran the “Objective not on road” report in MC, which listed this:
Obj nr: 1914 Name: South P’Yongyang City
Could that be part of the problem? With the South Pyongyang objective not being on a road tile, how can the ground forces reach it?

try airmobile few units to the red dot, especially engineer battLlions, as they seem to be more flexible and even pass damaged bridges.

Ah hadn’t considered that. How would I go about about that? Schedule an air mobile sortie with a CH-47 unit and point them to some airborne troops? Never done this before in Falcon.
-
Maybe place a blue battalion straight on the red point?
-
I’ve tried that as well but when I use the “place at objective” option in MC, the dropdown list only contains locations that are ROK-held? So South Pyongyang isn’t on the list.

Ah I thought it first remained ROK, then was reverted DPRK after load.

Now i see what you mean, I’ll give that a try and see if that makes the unit “stick”.
If not, any pointers on how to setup an airmobile mission?

right mosue on a unit (engi is the prefered unit), add airmobile flight with c-130/c-5. put the target triangle on the desired place u want the flight to drop the unit.
i addvice u to do 2-3 airmobile with units from the southern part of s. korea. -
Should I first move those units to an airstrip? If they’re in the middle of nowhere, how’s the C-130 going to pick them up? Or deliver them if there is no airstrip at the destination?

no, just choose the unit, create the airmobile flight and direct the dropping zone (the triangle in the flight plan) to the place u want it to be.
a unit can be picked enywhere, and can be droped anywhere. -

Thank you so much guys, regev was right - an air mobile assault was the answer.
I scheduled 4 C-130Hs to pick up the 4th Air Assault Brigade from their location at the FLOT and had them drop the troops straight over South Pyongyang.
On the 2D map, I saw the C-130Hs stop at the pickup point (without an airbase/airstrip in sight) and then fly on to Pyongyang. Sure enough, the 4th Air Assault Brigade appeared in the middle of South Pyongyang. But… nothing yet. Hmm. I check the unit and it’s still set to defending the FLOT location. So I quickly go into MC and change the order to capture South Pyongyang. And I load up my save game… wait 1 minute and tadaa!
Video number 1: Pyongyang has fallen!
Followed straight by video number 2: Campaign victory!!!
Thanks for helping me conclude my first ever Falcon 4.0 campaign since owning the game since 1998.Question though… if I were to go into the 3D world and fly along the C-130Hs, do I actually see them LAND to pick up the Air Assault Brigade??

Congrats!
I’m still curious to know, but I suppose you tried, if you could place a blue unit.
Your last question: I think you’re starting to see things as I do. :drink:
