GFX problem after switching from 980GTX to 1080TI - "Ghost trees"
-
Hey guys,
upgrade my system yday with a nice 1080ti GFX card. Did a clean install of latest Nvidia drivers, and everything seems fine so far. No problems in other games what so ever.
Now in BMS I realized right away, not changing any GFX settings coming from the 980GTX …. that I felt I lost object, especially tree details. Looking at it more closely (see youtube link attached) trees, and maybe other objects) are like fading into sight only when u get closer, which wasn’t the case before. At least not to this level.
Can you confirm this isn’t normal for all settings maxed out in BMS. Regarding Nvidia settings, I am using those suggested in this thread for higher level cards (used them with the 980gtx as well):
Here’s a screen capture of what I am looking at right now:
Thanks for any help or advice, would really get this 1080ti baby to work as it’s supposed to be with BMS.

Hi, to be honest I am unable to get something really strange in the video, but I trust you when you say that it’s now different from what it used to be with your 980.
First thing you can try is to delete the dx9display.dsp from your User\Config folder (don’t worry, BMS will regenerate it) and see if it helps. -
@blue
thanks for your response …. I mean I am starting to doubt my memory abilities as of now, and am about to put the 980gtx back in for comparison
you do see those trees like “fading in to sight” at a certain distance in my video, right? I am not 100% sure as of now if this was the same on the 980gtx. Do you get that “effect” with your setup as well? I would have sworn with max settings those trees were also visible from more distance … btw, I already deleted that dx file, no difference.boba

AFAIK BMS has no visibility distance setting (unlike DCS).
I honestly never paid attention to this, usually there’s little time to look at trees when you are in flight ;)… I’ll try to remember next time and will check for it. -
The trees are auto-gen so yes, at your altitude and zoom level (unrealistic) you will see the trees fade in. This would be considered normal IMO.
Zoom back out and it is not as noticeable. You may see it better now due to your upgraded GPU.

thanks again for your input guys. so this is normal bms behaviour, since u say trees are auto-gen, meaning they pop into sight as you close in on them? don’t ask me why, it just felt different from my memory with the old card.
I only used the zoom level to better see what’s going on regarding the graphics, but u can definately notice the trees being generated at a certain distance also without zoom.thanks again,

If your picture is sharper w/ the new card, then it is probably just more noticeable to you. Auto-gen trees were new since release of 4.33. They weren’t implemented in earlier versions. At any rate, I wouldn’t waste the time to put the old card back in.
I just meant you wouldn’t use that level of zoom in flight. Shouldn’t be as obvious at normal FOV, but in certain flight profiles, you will see it better, as in the dive angle you had in the vid. When flying low (NOE), you won’t see it as much.
-
Tested this as well, GPU is a GTX 980Ti, and I get it both at the zoomed-in view and in my normal view. The trees on the plains are not too blatant with their “ghosting” but the trees that appear on the ridges of the hills can get quite obvious. I’ve never noticed this before but as BlueRaven said, we don’t really look at the trees when we’re in flight.
So I guess we’ll chalk this up to “normal behavior” for BMS?

Strangest artifact I ever saw. Seems to be kinda stuck on the gun cross…

Thanks man, I was concentrated on seeing the trees issue and didn’t notice it… hey, I hope some tree will autogen in time to soften his fall!
OK, OK, back to seriousness now… it’s a well known Windows cursor interference, I bet boba is running in maximized borderless window, ALT+TABbed to desktop/another application and went back to BMS.
To get rid of it just press CTRL+ALT+DELETE followed by ESC. -
Yes Autogen trees will fade in and out with distance. Maybe later it will be set as a setting for user to increase that distance, but for now it is constant. This is normal BMS behavior.
