SA-2 "through-mountain lock" fixed? Ranges.
-
EDIT: sorry guys, I’m a bit lost there actually. Was the problem fixed already? I thought I still had it, but reverted back to former ranges and realized it was working the same, with engagement ranges matching the PPT ring’s.

After I ported SA2 data from KTO db, I thought I had a fix. after some more testing , though, some SA2 locked me through mountain. I have not figured it out yet,
I did not watch this video yet because of my phone.
-
So apparently, the challenge is now to reproduce the bug. Fine enough
-
Thanks a lot Lorik, I saw the vid now and will do some more testing with this. That is the same mountain that I always test on.
after data swap for SA2 … I was breaking the locks there as well but had inconsistent results after many tests. Original problem seemed to increase over time , but this was most likely coincidence.
However it became clear that I was still having an issue with the lock.
IN your vid I couldn’t understand, did you say you got this range setting from KTO as example? If so, This would be kinda like the import job I tried with KTO db. It seemed like a success at first.
I want to try this some more when I get a chance, and now we Know it may have something to do with range setup.

Suggested it in the first place. This hypothesis had close to zero success among devs. It was still my favorite, but after this video, I’d hardly defend it anymore.
Starrats: I used the Balkans ones to be honest. 18 - 22 I think. (edit: confirmed)

Thanks for the link Lukas, but if this is indeed the issue, it may be above my head on a terrain fix. Still very much a rookie on terrain. but I did run radar on the mountain, and it showed that it was blocking the radar. this was just shown in simple pie graphic that Falcas’ MC shows.
also the terrain is solid as far as missiles and jets smashing into it, just seemed to not block radar most of the time. with Monster tool or Terrain editor version of this, I tried some sugestions of re-saving the map by changing a number and then changing it back to get “save map” to be highlighted for use, and finally hitting "save map " again.
there is a hill NE of alta airbase in NTO that has been the SA2 radar test spot that we are looking at. If it hast bad terrain there , I wouldnt know.

Why? Because this hypothesis can explain too many issues (terrain crashing, bad locks…) ? Its too simple, but as well too domestified bug.

I dont think your video explained the issue…and the title is even more confusing.

Did u understood the issue? If my hypothesis is true, you can not fix your terrain…its up to the devs to fix exe - but they told us, they can live with it until new terrain (high-res?) arrives.

Lorik,
After watching this video, I want to comment that you (or anyone really) would really benefit from using a triple monitor setup. Instead of looking back and forth between the launch site and straight ahead using the TRACKIR, you would have both in your FOV quite alot. In my opinion a triple monitor setup is as important as a HOTAS or the TRACKIR. After flying with it, it’s difficult to go without. To me a single monitor is like flying looking through binoculars. I hope you get a chance to try it.
Regards

NigelThank you Nigel. I also need a separate room for a F16 pit but it’s never there when I wake up, if you can do something for me?

Hehehe I understand. But I will say that my first triple setup was a desktop with small monitors and I much prefer that to a single of any size. Borrow a couple extras from your friends, they don’t even have to be the same size a couple extra 15, 17, 23", whatever and just try it if you can.

Room. Space.
EDIT: not the place, guys.

There is a LOS check thatis working in most of cases , but sometimes, there are bugs in this LOS check with terrain
Will not be fixed until the day we have a new terrain engine, which would be in 3 to 4 months

Thanks for explaining , I read some of the post you linked and saw the detailed pics you posted. I kind of understand what was going on, but I knew I couldn’t fix that kind of issue. Now knowing this isn’t fixable by just adjusting things in Sams, thanks to your post and mavJP’s last post, we can realize it is a issue that will just be there for now.
And I just won’t worry much about it anymore. Thanks to both of you guys for stopping us from chasing our tails on this!
We can focus on other things , instead now.

In that specific case, I’m surprised that behind the exact same part of terrain, I have or have not SA-2 radar lock, depending on factors we have troubles identifying. Does not really advocate for the terrain hypothesis, Starrats, does it?

…Is BMS radar LOS algorithm L2 dependent?
Is BMS AI behavior (maneuvering, artifical eyeball etc.) algorithm L2 dependent? -

By the way, I’m working on new Korean campaigns at the moment and tested a flight tonight, didn’t change the terrain of course, nor the SA-2, but did witness “through-moutain-lock”. Not such a big issue to be honest. It’s firing at me, I know it’s happening and I react accordingly. Even though it’s supposed to be impossible, it’s not an issue as long as it’s a SA-2 and my RWR telling me, rather than a SA-10 (which obviously is around too).

how about triple monitor with trackir
